Amira ROCKS! Her voice teacher absolutely ROCKS!
I like her better on the Sound of Music repertoire and I have my reasons why.
Again, this is a disclaimer that my opinion is my own and I was asked to react to this video. I will always give my true opinion and it will always be based in my years of singing, coaching, teaching and performing.
This little girl's voice is wonderful. But, showing off her operatic ability at such a young age for sensationalism disconnects me from her performance overall.

At that age, Amira had no group classes, no private lessons and no coaching. She had a few masterclasses with conductor Andre Rieu 6 months earlier. That's the miracle.
Wild! Well, she’s great and took the little coaching she had and did well with it! ❤
Also, she was singing in a language that she did not speak or understand and ANY performance that is being recorded or transmitted (including ANY classical opera singer) will either have a microphone or it will be a silent pantomime. Without the microphone, the only people that would have heard this performance, would have been the audience that were at the live performance. I have heard too many supposed professional singers and voice coaches complain about her using a microphone. If they truly were professional performers they should know this.
@@crrissa_the_cyberbard Not entirely true. You cannot trust the comments except mine experts one, people tend to forget or change the truth. Amira had been singing in a choir before this event. She also had quite extensive coaching from her choir leader when she produced her first CD which all were produced before this event !!..
Your reaction is yours, but as a listener you lost me. You mentioned the mic,. Even the likes of Pavarotti used a mic depending on the venue. I have heard a lot of opera in my time. Wither the language was right I never would know. But it is the sound I like. No one but Amira puts emotions, that goes to my heart.
I saw your reaction to Amira's performance with André Rieu. It seems to me that you miss the point. You are analyzing an artist, not a machine that you evaluate according to its technical characteristics. The most important thing for an artist is to transmit emotions, which Amira achieves outstandingly. Just look at how many of the audience are moved to tears. As long as you don't understand that and you don't show sensitivity to feelings, you won't be able to call yourself an artist.
Regarding the microphone, operatic houses usually have audiences of around 2,000-3,000 people in specially designed buildings. Put them in the open air in front of 12,000+ and their voice would be lost. And they would be mature singers, not 10-year-olds! At this stage Amira's voice had to be protected not strained. Now at age 19 she has not finally chosen her genre, although she does love opera. When she graduates from music college she will be better placed to make a decision, and may well choose classic crossover. She has never claimed to be an opera singer and in the last nine years has enjoyed a wide repertoire. I'm sorry you showed disrespect by cutting this performance in half.
Not claimed to be an opera singer, lol. You don´t knoe much about Amira then. They promoted her as such from her starting point. And if you check her YT-channel description she is not shy at all promoting herself as an Opera Singer !!
@@johnojvind7641 Enjoying and singing operatic arias does not make a person an opera singer in the sense of being part of operatic stage performances. Her wide repertoire shows clearly her desire to experiment more widely and will do so until completing music college.

First off you should understand Amira is one of the top ranked sopranos in the world. Your finding errors in pronunciation of some words is pretty unfounded. I'm assuming you are very fluent in Italian to make such a comment. Many Italian opera singers are not totally understood by the audience due to their pronunciation. I'm curious what your professional education background is to give you such insight into opera singing. By the way, Amira sings a wide variety of music besides opera.

The best performance I have seen coming from Amira was a few years ago, O Sole Mio but as of now she will not make it as a vocalist. Your opinion is your opinion and that is all. If what you say was true she would have proven it by now with some recordings or performances in some "opera's" , even in minor rolls.

If Amira is so great as you are wishing her to be and all those "great music teachers" were so praising her you would be seeing her exposed in concerts such as Patricia Janeckova performed in, including some of her recitals with her teachers, before her untimely passing. In fact, you could follow Patricia's career as it progressed. I don't see that with Amira!! Only a few concerts here and there.
I really liked Patricia but as for those opera singers who I think are among the best, certainly Netrebko but I really enjoy Garanca.
She blew the language and made it up.
It was the judgment of Patrizio Buanne that she sings very well in Italian at the age of 11 and stated this opinion in a performance with her and he is native Italian.....is Italian your first language? I won't be watching anymore of your rude and incompetent reactions.
I really had to come see the comments, I knew they wouldn't be kind. If that was your point then congratulations. What is impressive is a 9 year old who learns to sing by herself by watching UA-cam. With no vocal coaches help. Anyone can take lessons and learn to sing. I've seen some very talented 9 year old singers, but they take lessons. She really proves, that anyone can accomplish their dreams, if they put the time and dedication into something they love. I admit I know nothing about Opera or Italian but I know talent when I see it. She literally watched UA-cam Opera singers and copied them. Not very many 9 years old can do that. The only other under 9 I can think of is Angelina Jordan at age 7. But be careful reacting to her too because her fans will turn on you too.

I don’t recall her ever attempting an opera voice at her age. By the way, the epidemic kept her out of the Olympics as she graduated high school high school as valedictorian.

I think pieces like this one and Nessun Dorma etc are chosen because they're so well known now by mainstream, and I guess if mainstream can be introduced to intelligent music, then this is a great way to start. Amira never had any formal training, she is definitely not a sensationalist, she is actually very down-to-earth, and has done a lot of good with her earnings thus far. Holland is very strict about the number of performances by children per year, and her parents made sure that she had as normal a life as she should, by keeping her focus on studies. Amira also does marathons, but she loves listening to opera, not pop.
Andre wouldn't put anyone into his concerts that he didn't think had potential, so by saying this is sensational, thus makes Andre an enabler of that, and that's a no. This girl had only had coaching from Andre before this concert, and in the 6 months since she won HGT her voice technique had improved remarkably.
It's disappointing that you cut the song short, I realise that there are loads of singers that try to sing opera these days, but Amira, and Andre perhaps deserve a bit more respect than being cut off (cos you've heard it all before). The mic? Amira is not a full blown opera singer projecting massive voice with years of training down the runway, she's a child (as you said several times) still with much learning to go, and she recognises that; nor has she ever portrayed herself as an operatic voice. I understand what you're saying about every second child singer out there going all out on opera, but I think maybe you are too harsh on Amira. They are at least interested enough to delve into it, and bring it into mainstream. God knows we could do with some decent music!
The family moved to SA just because to avoid strict child labour laws in the NL, so "protect her and live as normal" is pure BS.
Also Andre made millions of dollars on this single performance, how much of those earnings do you think gone forward to Amira, the simple answer is ZERO. Amira in an interview talked about sharks in the music business an Andre must be one of them. Actually NL authoriutes investigated Andre because of her late night performance, since then Andre had no younger artist below 15 on his stage in the NL, but he had in the US. In the NL he actually waited engaging Emma Kok until she was 15.
@@johnojvind7641 Of course their are sharks in the music business, that's a well known fact. In the real world, their are sharks in every business, it's just that the music industry is more visible. Andre gave her coaching lessons so I don't think he is one of them. Andre may get a high payout, but he has worked for years to build his reputation, and he is very popular - he gives people enjoyment, so why shouldn't he.
Also, I know that Amira went to SA because their laws are less strict there, but Amira's parents first and foremost still made sure she continued her education, as they should.
Evening concerts are the best to go to for atmosphere, so I don't see what possible agenda Andre had by having her on in the evening, other than to give her exposure. Without his reputation built over many years, she would not get the exposure to the kind of audience that loves her style of musicality. So now Andre waits til they are older so that he is not himself, a target for criticism.
I don't really see a problem with anything he has done. He doesn't need Amira to bolster ratings or increase music sales. He doesn't have to do any introducing of new talent, but he wants to give them a chance. Of course it adds an extra element to the program, but the people there are there to see him.
@@SuperMoofie Andre is a showbiz man and he knows sensationalism sells tickets. Just the fact he earned millions on this performance and gave nothing back is a proof he first of all is driven by greed, not one cent to a future fund for Amira. At this age Amira just enjoyed singing and of course had no clue about the business, but her parents had. You have to understand he knows exactly what is selling, this performance got viral almost to a billion views, it´s worth a fortune and if had any decenty he should have put a fund at least 1 million Euro for her future.
Compare with Charlotte Church, her earnings went to a fund that she could release when she was 18, a staggering +15 million Euro while Andre and his ego gave nothing to Amira, not even funding her future music studies with pennies. Why are you defending such a greedy man like Andre.
@@SuperMoofie In the NL Andre waits until they are older +15 only because he would be sentenced for child labour abuse if he didn´t, he already got a sharp warning. In the US he exploited another minor singer for sensationalism, Emanne Beasha. She was engaged for the whole US tour, up to 10 performances in two weeks, without any regards to her vocal health. Covid stopped that plan after one single performance. Then Covid stopped his tours for another 2 years but at that time Emanne voice changed and he wasn´t interested anymore, because her adult voice was not a sensation anymore !!
Any Amira fans, who wishes and begs, can FORGET Andre will invite Amira anymore since her adult voice is not a SENSATION anymorr, hope you get it, don´t be so naive.
@@johnojvind7641 Andre Rieu was "investigated" by the NL authorities many months after this performance, over a performance of an African choir of children, because his program ran past the hour at night when children are not supposed to perform in the NL. And Amira's parents separated because her mother contracted a life-threatening disease, and needed to get back to the dry climate of the SA high Veldt. There are is fact little difference between the child labour laws in SA and NL. I suggest that you verify your facts before spouting garbage.

Just a few remarks with your permission (and no offence...).
I see you do not listen to Amira's entire performance, especially the last notes, which are the best in my opinion. And maybe you do not mention some of her capabilities, like her vocal range, her poise, and also the lack of vocal coaching at the time of the concert (she had just a masterclass of three days with André Rieu). After all, I do not believe there is really sensationalism in her carreer, for she only did one huge production, neither she seems to consider herself as a diva.
But yes, you have clearly a nuanced perspective based on your deep understanding of music, far better than mine anyway.. So, just a few words.
Indeed, she did not learn to pronounce italian... But you can expect from a Dutch young girl to understand it in six months. Certo gl'Italiani dicono che la loro lingua è la più facile...
As her fans, whenever Amira Willighagen enters the stage, we seem to hear Orpheus with his lyre, or an angel with his lute. But I agree, she has not a real operatic voice (yet).
Finally, the use of the microphone is definitely not allowed in opera, but Amira performs this aria in a huge open-air stage without acoustics.

Amira's initial performance on Holland's Got Talent revealed her UA-cam exposure and innate voice; while her age placed all into divine context for a sensational start. Children today can avail entertainment program introduction so prodigy emergence is more facile; however, such demonstration is still utterly stupendous. Cartesian divine proof writ so small strikes lightning.
Experiencing the joy of listening to her is indeed a sensation to seek.

I left a comment on this channel about 6 days ago agreeing with your assessment of Amira and her future. In this video you mentioned another young singer, Jackie Evancho of whom I am a little familiar with. I looked through your content on your channel (crrissa_the_cyberbard) and found no videos or such. My question is, do you have any content on young singers like Jackie or even someone like Charlotte Church for example??
I honestly try to stay away from that stuff because it is so controversial. I’ve had lots of people come and ask me to do Amira reacts, so I have done it. But honestly, I think putting such a big magnifying glass on singers at such a tender age can really create lots of developmental dysfunction emotionally and vocally.
@@crrissa_the_cyberbard Yes and I agree. Reminds me of Carly Rose Sonenclar whose original performance was very good but after puberty she totally lost her ability to find her pitch. I can't imagine how she felt after all the accolades.
Amira does not sing Opera as a trained classical singer, that is the key point, so she cannot be judged by average classical trained singers who do not posess nor understand her skills.. She sings with her own natural technique which is a mix of musical style and operatic elements.
In general her voice fits much better with musical type of music than Opera(as it is taught in classical-opera music school). There are numerous musical style videos with her that are excellent and one of a kind, a random example check for example her duet with Ruhan De Toit, serach for Amira-online Phantom of the Opera.
Her latest Opera performance Ebben? Ne Andro Lontana was a total mess, she is not born for serious opera but her opera style fits well at these types of show.

By the way, trained opera singers in general has the worst diction you can imagine, it´s so notorious bad opera houses has to use subtitles even when sung in native language😀. Now you can do a rewiev of Sutherland and complain about her diction and see how successful that rewiev will be.

Hello ! So, let’s assume that you’re absolutely right. In that case, I would say that Amira Willighagen drew more or less the same conclusions as you. Indeed, after being compared to Maria Callas and Anna Netrebko at 9, she has just began her Bachelor of music studies at the university of Pretoria. I know this is the normal way, but it seems to be quite a brave and humble decision, I hope you will agree with me. 😊

Could you take a look at some serious opera talented young girls that were NOT exploited and commercialized? Try Patricia Janeckova from Slovakia. Started very young, plenty of UA-cam for you to find. Unfortunately, now she has passed away at the age of 25, 🥲 considered by many opera fans and experts one of the best young opera prospects with huge worldwide following. Your opinion please . I think she deserves it.
When you can sing Mozart's arias, you can sing everything. And Patricia Janeckova could, with a flawless technique of the bel canto. A tragedy Indeed.
Closer to the truth. Patrica parents was heavily critcised as well by classical authorities by being pushed into a hurried career.

@@pb5014 Yes, very true. Young singers who are ahead of their generation always, in the classical world, gets critcised for taking on opera-classical pieces at young age. That happened also in Patricia case. Also her teahcer was critcised for letting Patricia take on opera pieces they thought her voice was not ready for.
@@pb5014 The first professional rewiev on her was on her role in Galatea. The rewiever described she had a pretty voice with a hurried career, so the professionals do not agree with you.

Hi Crrissa, I also saw your first reaction to Amira & although you’re a hard task master, I appreciate your honesty & your extensive music knowledge. Just a few points for your benefit…. No, Amira did not have extensive training prior to this performance. In fact, the only guidance she had was a master class at rehearsal with Andre Rieu. From the age of 7, she watched & copied the likes of Pavarotti . She did this day in & day out for 2 years before auditioning for Holland’s Got Talent ( which she won )
Amira has never tried to sound or act older than herself. In fact she has always appreciated being a child & able to play like one.
She has a very strong faith & some of her religious songs may be what you are looking for. Below I’ve listed a few, together with her age which may assist you in your critique.

…. … The Prayer at age 19. This is audio only but a beautiful rendition.
It may also be wise to check out Amira & Corlea Botha singing “Flower Duet “ I find this one special.
Amira also formed a foundation at the age of 9 to supply playground equipment to poor South African schools & to date has supplied 22 schools with such equipment.
Amira has accepted that God gave her such talent, but she has never sought fame or accolades for her singing.
Amira Willighagen is a beautiful human being who happens to have a beautiful voice & regardless of what register she’s in, does so effortlessly.
