I’ve been using solid gels to apply colored gel tips for 2 years! You can always do a practice nail to test and make sure gels are curing under the tips before applying I get being cautious but… We should be doing tests anyways even if clear. I’ve switched to Korean / Japanese gels to be more safe. It’s the cheap gels with no ingredient lists people need to be scared of.. I’m more scared to use Beetles gels and other cheap brands.
I heard it first a couple weeks ago from Amber the Nail Whisperer on TikTok, and she learned by talking to chemists and manufacturers, that gel appears "hard" when it's only 50% cured. It can still leech chemicals thru your nail plate, and that gave me a bit of pause. Her and those chemists she talked to really recommend against at home cure tests. She and I both used to think they were a good idea, but now it seems they might give a false sense of security and that should really only be done in a lab. I'm learning too in my research for the video I mentioned that allergic reactions are only part of the issue, a lot of these chemicals are also carcinogens. Tons of things we use every day are carcinogens to some extent, so I'm still trying to figure out how much of a risk that actually is and if I'm ok taking it. For now I'm just personally pausing on colored soft gel until I fully research it. Thank you for mentioning Korean / Japanese gels because I'm definitely going to have to look into the ingredients in those as well! I don't think they used to but all the new gel packages I've gotten from Beetles list ingredients on the box. Totally agree with you... brands with mystery ingredients or even if they list them but are from places like Shein or Temu, I really don't trust.
