Honey,, Evilene broke it down at the end....Dont you ever bring me... Dont you ever bring me, bring ,bring me bring , bring ,be,, Oh oh oh,,, ! No bad news" That witch SANG! Fo real!
@@jerramaurice7836 It was one of the original songs from the movie, the same with The Emerald City Sequence and they even made a theme song for Dorothy that was going to be sung in that scene she and her friends were in the hotel in the Emerald City, it ended up being on the soundtrack. Oh and to correct myself, Stephanie wasn’t even asked to be in the movie. They only wanted Ted Ross and Mable King from the Broadway musical.
Traditionally, the villain is usually the most important character in the movie. They're the ones who get things rolling on their own, while the protagonist usually just acts in response to them. So the villain's song has a bigger impact to make so the hero's struggle is more compelling.
Love, love the way Mabel King does the jazz roll singing. Phenomenal and all-around talented. Her song was equally 'tight' and performed on the highest of levels. She accustomed her voice to sound like the piano roll jazz/blues musicians do. She is a perfect scatting tour-de-force in the tradition of Ella.
For anyone that has to sing this song in a play, look to this one for inspiration, but don't stress out if you don't sound like Mabel. There are other videos of other people that have done this song in their plays. View those as well. Just sing the song LOUD AND PROUD. :) Also, have fun with it. That's all that matters.
Eh, I never liked villian characters. I prefer the more demure sensitive heroines or tragediennes or the complex ones like Nancy in "Oliver". To each their own.
Can anyone else imagine the late Nell Carter doing a version of this? She would have been great in this role. Both Nell and Mabel had tragic lives, both had weight issues and both died way too young. Shame she never had the chance to sing this.
I hate be the bearer of " bad news' lol But i must say- This, to me, as a child was the ugliest, evilest, meanest, most dangerous lookin witch of all times!!! I actually had nightmares lol.😲 I later in life compared all the witches in all the current horror movies id ever seen..and this lady STILL takes the cake no question. Most witches aren't very threatening without, magic or witchcraft..but this Witch seems absolutely capable of beatin yo ass..no spells needed,🤕 No disrespect to Mabel..but i bet her children were well behaved like a mf!
I wish she had a bigger part as an antagonist. I wonder if she had a bigger part in the play. In the movie, we know she had to exist bc of Oz but she's in the background until the flying monkeys scene. Her scenes are memorable though but she's not as consistent a presence
That's one heavy & uncomfortable dress she's wearing. All of those brooches, buttons, and shells are better on a display case/pole, not covering a whole dress.
I always assumed they were simply sweating. The sign as they enter the facility says it is a “sweat shop-manufacturing and exporting sweat” (or something to that effect) right before this scene. The nature and product of their work is irrelevant; they sweat and toil to HER beat and it may as well be for nothing.
She scared the crap out of me as a kid!!!
ME TOO! haaaaaaa
Evilene looks more hideous and ugly than the original one
SAME!!
Its funny what makeup and costumes can do cause she wasn't hideous in real life lol
7thWardCreole: We took our 5 year-old son to see on Broadway in 1975, and Miss Mabel “scared” me so bad, I got nauseous.
Honey,, Evilene broke it down at the end....Dont you ever bring me... Dont you ever bring me, bring ,bring me bring , bring ,be,, Oh oh oh,,, ! No bad news" That witch SANG! Fo real!
Felt like I was in church
I love when she starts scatting
This is my favorite song in the whole movie
Mine too
Me three
Villain songs usually are :)
Me too. I find this way better than the Wizard of Oz
No bad news
It was smart to have the director bring back Mable King and Ted Ross for the film after doing the Broadway play
I think they wanted Stephanie Mills too, but Diana Ross wanted the role and plus she said that if she got the role she’d persuade Michael to be in it.
@@revengeofbcraig5755 correct plus the song Michael Jackson sung with the crows wasn’t originally in the play either

Stephanie Mills should have been in the Wiz movie.
Yes indeed!
Yes Ms. Mable King!!! That harmony from the background singers though!
When the villains song is better than the heroes
See also: Scar singing "Be Prepared."
That’s almost always true

Now this is Gospel!
Halleluh!!
Mabel king killed it
+Chris Davis She originated the role on stage.
She has never not killed it. Ever.
Not even Mary J. Blidge could our do her in the 2015 live version however they made her beautiful as Evilene
She Sho Did! For real! Killed it, brought it back to life , and killed it again! For sho!!
Mabel Elizabeth King Nailed her singing and especially when she was scatting while She was singing it was Phenomenal

Mabel King was an awesome Gospel music singer.
When I was a kid, I could not believe Raj’s mom could be so creepy. She was so talented.
The baddest b! Man what a Broadway legend! She did this so awesomely.
Well, she did this first on Broadway-the late Mabel King.
She did well in the musical version too which she did before the movie.
what an entrance she looked in the camera and stucked her tongue out great

+N Kugler (SlyCooper64) Exactly. Think of the song like a gospel song.
YES!

The Wiz revival is outstanding!
The use of sewing and industrial sounds to compose the interlude is brilliant!!

2:19 Mabel channeling her inner Scatman John
I love this part of the movie! That was the late Mabel King, who played Evilene on this one. That song is upbeat!
+Tiffany Douglas The song is sort of relevant to many people. No one wants to hear bad news.
I'm an aldult and I still can't watch this late at night before I'm about to go to sleep.

Second Favorite song in the movie!!!!!
Can anyone else imagine the late Nell Carter doing a version of this? She would have been great in this role. Both Nell and Mabel had tragic lives, both had weight issues and both died way too young. Shame she never had the chance to sing this.
I did some research on the actress Mabel King. She went through so much Hell in her life. It's really sad cause I believe her to be talented.

Evillene should get her own story just like Elphaba in wicked.
"Evil" is in her name, she embraced it.

That is one EVIL hammer you don't want to work for. Reminds me of my mom.
