I love those chill vibes on that high speed trail sesh
I got my license suspended and do t get any snow here in Michigan the last couple of years…I’m getting one of these for transportation to work, and to hit trails when I’m off. I can’t wait. And it will be great for playing disc golf solo!
Thanks for helping us break free from SlowMotion's chains
Reeeaaall
Excellent.. well-done good sir .
So there is hope for my dead XR. Any chance of looking inside?
Subbed for more of your awesomeness!
cooooooking!!!
nice riding my guy
Mobbin! 💨
OK 👍🏾🎵
Do you have a guide of how to properly vesc a xr? I’m really wanting to and I’m not against paying for someone to put a kit together I can drop in! Thanks
Liked and subbed! This is some brilliant riding on a very interesting board. I know SurfDado had a problem with VESC tuning earlier this summer: low speeds on bumpy terrain were causing the nose to drop. Do you feel like that is resolved?
It's definitely still there to an extent, but the latest firmware from SurfDado has a feature called bump compensation that significantly helps with this issue. I'm also running a half inch lift for extra clearance headroom
problem solved w th 1/2" lift?

Is the chi cbso 84v pack still available as I can't find it anywhere? Thanks
It is not, it was discontinued almost a year ago. Good sources for 84V packs include TheBoardGarage, ZBatterySolutions, and IndySpeedControl, though all of these sources aren't quite able to keep up with demand as of now, so it isn't the easiest thing to get a pack
@nicoaleman thanks.. do those other 84v packs have the same range as your cbso or less? In one of the other comments you said your cbso has a range between xr and gt which was promising but I thought all 84v packs only have range similar to xr (lower)..
@justinspirational It really depends how you ride it. Riding it exactly like an XR, you're gonna get a bit more range. Taking advantage of the extra power, closer to stock XR range. All the packs from where I mentioned are the same spec, 20s2p P28A. Different configuration though from the CBCSO, which was unique in that it had an internal BMS, but issues with this both functionally and with the tight fit it caused led to the discontinuation. For running a BMS, most go with either a ZBMS from ZBatterySolutions, or an Ennoid XLite
@@nicoaleman ok thanks for the feedback
Your a g
Nice, I want one now. How accurate is the speedometer your using? What program is that?
VESC Tool App, and as long as the tire diameter is set properly, it's dead on accurate (outside of wheelslip/freespin, which is obvious when watching in real time). It's just calculated using tire diameter and motor RPM
Don’t get hurt!
What battery/bms are you using?
I could care less about the top speed. But holy crap that’s a nice trail for riding! Where is that?!
Just a hidden little hit in Mariemont, OH, the video pretty much shows the entirety of it 😂 Everything else out here is super techy, gotta take what you can get when it comes to smooth, speed trails haha
I wish I had some of those where I live! It’s all walking trails. Fun! But not sure fast and smooth.
I notice very little to no pushback on high speeds. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Is this something you can dial in on the vesc? Setting a pushback speed..
Yup! Can set pushback at a certain speed, duty cycle, have it ramp in as you speed up, or just turn it off! I had it at 85% duty cycle here, but never actually touched that.
Is that like in the settings of the Onewheel app and does that also work for a pint X or is this just a XR thing?
@@GraysonArcher It's not actually an XR! I'm using a Little FOCer v3 controller, which runs VESC firmware, so it's not actually a Future Motion controller. Been trying to get things tuned to be able to compete with FM boards 👌
@@nicoaleman if you want fm settings get an arduino nano a hall sensor ( put the magnet on the valve stem and near where the rotation is read by the hall sensor ) and 2 pitch sensors ( yaw and pitch ) attach it to the rail of an xr or gt.. go for a ride.. write a program for the nano that logs the ride info and time the whole thing.. note things like free spin after a drop, roots stuff, and the acceleration of the tire when you tip into a turn ( fm calls this "carve" in custom app ) you can pretty much get exactlly fms setting with a simple $20 build. This vesc looks awesome, quality riding there too.. subbed
@@MrDmadness I like the thinking! Though that's not the secret sauce that VESC is missing, for simple stuff you can actually get it extremely close to FM just by adjusting by feel, and in many ways make it ride better! There's certain more complex issues we're still trying to overcome, mainly in the IMU getting confused in bumpy terrain and causing nose dipping, and how we can potentially filter out jank values
Is it an XR Motor/Hub?
Yup yup, just an XR motor, not the Superflux or anything 👍
Just blew up my cbxr and bms. Would it make more sense to switch to VESC rather than repairing?
Depends how you define as makes sense haha. It would probably be the cheapest way though, if you were to get a new/used pack and were willing to run it BMS-less. A healthy and balanced pack can usually last a long while with no issues without a BMS if you take care of it, but it does get riskier over time, so I wouldn't call it a long term solution. And VESC definitely ain't for everyone, still lots of learning and tinkering involved.
@@nicoaleman Yeah definitely. Have you messed with the settings on yours much, or did it work petty well with the newest public software you uploaded?
@@NoahZimmerman I'm running SurfDado's V4 Firmware, but the actual tune I'm running can be found here! pev.dev/t/nicos-wip-racing-shredding-tune-card/157/
@@nicoaleman Very impressive! It’s cool to see SurfDado’s progress, as well as the community building on top of that. Keep up the good work!
how did you get the speedometer in the video?
Screen recorded the VESCTool app, and just masked it in using Adobe Premiere 🤙
PROPS 4 U ! very helpful..1 vid n I'm a Sub🤪
what range are people getting on a setup like this?
Haven't done a true range test, somewhere between an XR and CBXR. Basically GT range, maybe a tad less. But like a GT, it's fun as hell to the last drop, voltage sag is much less of a problem with how much headroom there is
how much do u have invested in your setup? I have a 1wheel plus+...cost 1500 about 4 yrs ago..
How'd you do it?
It's not an actual XR, it's a VESC setup! Little FOCer V3 controller with a CBCSO 84V battery from ChiBatterySystems! It truly rips 🔥
@@nicoaleman basically same thing max did a video on ? Oh And I just subbed btw you freaking kill it out there foo
@@deemontes7265 Yup! Max inspired me to get on board. Appreciate it!
@@nicoaleman can it work with pint X?
Wow! The highest I could hit on my pint x was 20
I don't recommend trying for higher haha, this is an 84V VESC board made to fit in the frame of an XR, but with the power of a GT basically
@@nicoaleman wow wild
Wow that looked fast but not THAT fast.
Right? You're not wrong at all haha, video did it no justice. The speedometer is based on motor RPM and tire diameter (11"), so it is accurate. I also ran Strava and the GPS recording gave me similar numbers, with a top speed of 28mph
Great job! Is the pushback similar with VESC?
@@josephbarker7933 There's tons of ways you can set it! In this video, I technically had pushback set at 85% duty cycle (motor load basically), but never actually touched that. I've honestly since just disabled pushback altogether haha.
@@nicoaleman That sounds sketchy 👀
