If you’re familiar with radio dramas/“plays” from the “Golden Age of Radio,” which died out about 20 years before this, you can discern all kinds of influences from in these episodes. The plot structure, dialog and the background and interstitial music have so many similarities to “Old Time Radio.” I haven’t checked out their biographies, but I have no doubt that a lot of the production staff, like the producers, directors, writers, composers, etc. had their starts in radio, or at least they almost certainly strongly would have been influenced by the earlier generation which did work in radio.
That might explain something that has been annoying me for years, stupid, irrelevant music in Movies and TV shows i.e. like an Indian attack = Loud music, fist fight = loud music, galloping horses = More loud music, etc, etc, all totally irrelevant but it is even worse than totally irrelevant, it takes away all atmosphere, in an Indian attack with Indians screeching and squealing that is the atmosphere it should generate.....but add music and it is just silly, where would Music come from in the middle of an Indian attack in the middle of nowhere? It's like a fish out of water I have only ever seen 2 movies where the music was essential to the Plot and made sense, Jaws....and The Sting cos they both added to the plot and did not interfere where it wasn't relevant, it stopped when something else was happening in the plot same with the sound of galloping horses, you just don't need silly music, it takes away the atmosphere and the sounds of nature......but maybe in radio it may have been necessary and is a carry over.......I just always thought everyone in TV and movies was Gay (Not that there is anything wrong with that🤣🤣🤣🤣) P.S. it's even worse, even watching any presentation on UA-cam, like news, sports etc, it will start with loud irrelevant Music, why? even listening to Neil deGrasse Tyson talking about the "fermi Paradox, there is back ground music, why? why do they think that music is part of the show when all they do is TALK?? do they want peoples attention diverted from what they are saying? It is really silly when you think about it, I love musicals (and I'm not gay) that is where Music belongs, it is just everywhere, is the whole world Gay? That is all I can come up with, could the radio theory solve it for me?🤣🤣

Stephen Brooks, who played the young easy-on-the-eyes club tennis pro, sadly died rather prematurely from a heart attack in 1999. He was 57.
He was Efrem Zimbalist, Jr.'s first assistant on The F.B.I., another Quinn Martin Production.
