- The latest installment of the Virtua Fighter franchise, VF6, is finally here. Get an in-depth first look at the game's refined gameplay and impressive graphics, and see if VF6 lives up to the legacy of its predecessors.
I think we are looking at two motion capture actors playing with the in-game engine just for showing what's possible.. Not even Akira's specific moves, just the way these actors like to move... you know... "You two, just coreograph the coolest way you can, we're just showing up the engine here"...
I'm betting the alley is a ring out, and there might be a stream or body of water on the edge of one side. To understand the terms: it's in engine (Realtime, not prerendered), but probably having a set of animations play out and thus "not actual gameplay". They wouldn't say "in engine" if it was prerendered in the manner you're thinking. In engine is only important if it's Realtime.
yeah i think it might have been an in engine cutscene style like how ps2 games used to do
@TrickyEileen Spot on. I keep remembering that when I bought my PS3, had only enough cash for one game and did NOT play fighting games... I bought Virtua Fighter; For the graphics, which was the style at the time 👵🏿. I'm betting they've worked up one of the illest animation blending systems ever, and that we'll be able to almost make a frame perfect recreation of this clip when we get our hands on it. I bet VF being primarily 3 button has something to do with the tech, I'm fascinated by it and cannot wait.
They already said that not all stages have ring outs.
For any martial art practioner or kungfu movie fan, this looks like straight choregraphy, not actual gameplay, transition between moves are far too smooth to be actual gameplay. Can you imagine the number of animations it would require to keep this kind of rendering between all the moves of all the characters otherwise? Dynamic guard of the initial footage looks lot more plausible, even if not as smooth or precise.
Physics + self learning computer = looks like geography that alsk follows player's input moves combinations. That would evolution to arcade fighter. Iy will also be a new strategy of faking or tricking opponent
Or you can just read the text on screen that explicitly says "not gameplay"
@@divertiti You re definitely right, but my post was more about the likelihood of such a gameplay than about the video being actual gameplay.
RGG Studio has a lot of motion capture data and choreography for their Yakuza/Like A Dragon series over the years. And they're known to reuse their assets (effectively in good way). Most people mindblown by this while us Yakuza fans were like "Oh, good ol' Reuse Ga Gotoku studio". I'm saying this as good thing btw, looking forward to the game.
This looks like Akira has inherit Lau Chan's style. He's wearing a Tiger insigna on his kimono. He's got some of Lau's lows in this concept as well.
Looks like every character is going to have a dynamic guard animation which will make this a very cool game if it’s balanced right it’s definitely ambitious
The VF UA-cam channel has an extended video of this pre-development show case:

this has made me even more hype for ring out = wall blast mechanics
beat a dude through that cabbage stand and shack and shit 🤩.
This footage of Virtua Fighter 6 is good.
I also want Virtua Fighter live action movie for the 30th anniversary of Virtua Fighter.
i for one am excited to try a 3d fighting game without heat! but that’s just me lol
We can at least take this as the team's goal for the game, and I'm willing to be excited for that. Though this video was absolutely only made for investors to get excited
Cant wait!
the bars look more like part of the character portraits to me, i could just be smoking copium though
huuuuuuf
Are they using the Kensei Sacred Fist style of blocking, where it looks dynamic even tho you're just holding block? I hope so
8:00 seems like Babe was doing a throw and got a counter hit
Gaddaaaamn akira lookn swole
Hope it is near as fluid as this demonstration.
I’m hoping for something that feels good
@TrickyEileen Agreed 👍
My take is that’s not game play that’s just assets running in-game. The animations look like raw motion capture as well. It’s not gameplay. It says that at the bottom. The bars are probably just mock upped as well.
It clearly says it’s not gameplay. That’s not a take
👏👏👏
I got happy or whatever I'm still blue Ball'd down there. 😂
I was hyped when i saw it live but then i realized its not actual gameplay
pre-alpha in engine. dunno how close to gameplay it'll be
It reminds me of how some of the really early Tekken 8 footage (that was also labelled not actual gameplay) looked, where it kinda looked too cinematic to be real gameplay. And yea it did turn out to not look quite like those initial teasers so I'm thinking a similar thing could be the case here.
Regardless it looked super cool and I loved the look of the UI.
Bingo 🎯
Akira is hot omg
I need new Virtua Fighter 6 trailer at Sony State of Play 2025
this is unfortunately very much a cutscene! it's probably some type of mockup to guide gameplay development. yes it is in engine, models will probably look this good, but animations won't. animation fluidity and gameplay control/responsiveness/snap are two opposite ends of the same spectrum
