Be kind be nice, welcome the new players and show them the way. And don't prevent new content to help everyone out please be better. We have a mountain to climb
Bonjour VF Team, I HOPE this GAMEPLAY :
Hello VF enthusiasts! So, what about this "CRAZY" trailer? Unprecedented fluidity, never-before-seen combinations, "limited" combos that are practically infinite, starting from any hit and able to connect with all others - that's what I'm hoping for.
From my experience in the past, smaller game comms tend to be better about this than larger ones. Saw this in VF ages ago when top players tried to help me out, saw it again in 2019 with SC6. Also tend to be more inclusive, as chuds do more harm in smaller comms. I think we'll be in good shape, at least within the community!
As a DOA (and now TEKKEN-) refugee the VF community has been extremely welcoming on twitter, twitch and youtube. Here's to hoping the negativity dies out ✌️
When you say refugee, it is because you stopped playing those games? Or because you "quit" these communities in a way ?
@@loicchampeau5375doa kinda isn’t active anymore as a game dev side. DOA and VF share a lot of mechanic fundamentals
@@TrickyEileen yeah, I knew that. I think I unintentionally targeted my question towards the Tekken part.
I tried DOA a long time ago and I might try it again because in terms of 2.5D fighters, I only have Tekken experience (and I'll probably try VF too) so I take a look at the different philosophies.
@@loicchampeau5375 I'd guess it's that they don't like the direction of T8 if I were to throw my two cents in.
@@burni988 Well, as much as I love T8 after starting my Tekken journey with 7, I can understand this isn't what they would like to see in a Tekken game.
And I'm even more glad that they decided to search for something else instead of putting 10 000 hours on the game and shitting on it at the same time.
Not a lot of communities get the opportunity to get ahead of a lot of attention, wouldn’t be surprised to see sajam hop on revo and others to follow, always a challenge to keep a helpful and pleasant community without being insular, will be sticking around
@@tonyaldante1017 I’m counting on it
Thank you for creating that space! I view the VF Reddit everyday. Thanks for being a leader in this space.
Not a gamer in any way but my VF days were in the arcade. Watching online natches where I find them then recently discovered it is on Steam! Tempted to dip my toe back in for the nostalgia.
THE MOMENT YOU STARTED GOING IN ABOUT HOW TO WIN EVENTS I WAS LIKE THERE'S MY GOAT
ABW always be winning
This is as insightful as it is real. You just can't say no to Tricky's authenticity. It's like her superpower: she's there spitting truth and you have to take it or run away wimpering.
Thank you for seeing it for what it is.
Big fan of your content, tricky. Keep carrying the torch and setting the example on how to act like a decent human being for the VF community.
Ty ty
I’m so thankful for you specifically and creators like you. The on-ramp for the entire FGC needs a serious overhaul. you playing your part in that overhaul is invaluable. The FGC needed this video! Keep going, I’ll be making my content helping low level and new SF5/6 players find their way thru the FGC so just know you and this video are the reason why I’m inspired to do this! THANK YOU!🫡
Omg 😱 I had no idea how important saying what I did was. Wow ty and can’t wait to watch
I think it always a possibility for virtua fighter community prosper.
Glad you spoke on the fact that we are all, collectively, standing on the shoulders of giants with fighting games. I think that's why the FGC is so strong despite being so niche, the genre being so opaque with its core mechanics means you can't intuit how they work on your own, so you _need_ someone else to help you.
Also, the gatekeep-y knowledge hoarding that oldheads did is so funny in retrospect. Like, yeah, in the arcade era there's a financial incentive, but in the console era? Where you're just fucking around at your local? Like, oh yeah, you really need that $24 prize pool and refusing to help anyone is the only way you can get it 😂 I'm glad those types are mostly gone now.
Pride is a hell of a drug I tell you what
This makes me sad 😢
But i know we can rise above this! ❤
Im so glad youre still doing VF.
I stumbled across an old VF forum post, looking for an explanation for Nitaku.
And lo and behold, who do i find there? Its Tricky!
VF forever! 🎉
I'm happy to be part of this community with you all. VF forever.
I feel so bad for Blackstar. I didn't know much back then, but I'd watch him play on 360 just for fun. Didn't know he went through that.
Many went through hell myself included. Only a few stayed. I don’t want it to stay that way and it has legit gotten better. We have a ways to go
Thank you for what you do.
The community needs more positive voices and outreach if we want VF and I would argue other 3d fighters to be successful 🙇♂️
Ty ty for being here too
I’ll try out Virtua Fighter sometime and see if it’s more
if it's more what/
11:28 bless you
I was HOPING someone would say that for me. Thank you
Bless you
Ty
Joined the reddit. Hope we can clean it up in there and make it good
@@Gilbot9000 thank you for your service
We have to be kind and not troll new players. If they don’t think the scene is cool people will dip.
@@Commonsens8 truth
If the new game is good and grows the community, the dynamics will change and start looking a little similar to other fgs that are bigger. That's the cycle of all franchises and communities as all of them started in the 90's (SF in 87) and some just got ahead of others, but all of them have changed. Also it looks like that the franchises that got a commercial breakthrough at some point (SF4, TK7, GGST, etc) end up creating a bigger case of veteran x newbie clashes. Like the notable label of "09'er" given to newbies in the time of SF4.
Yeah, that's a real thing.
Toxicity in FGC is a very complicated issue compared to other game genres
@@gekinetic care to elaborate?
@@TrickyEileen Couple factors involved IMO: First on new player aspect - It would be how League and COD don't need community-based onboarding like fighting games do. So even though toxicity do exist in LOL/COD community, most people don't need to worry about it because they can play by themselves and still manage to have fun. After all, everyone understands LMB, E, Q, etc. Not so much for fighting games, where having different unique terminologies (QCF LP, DF1, 3P, etc) means people have to dig deeper to play fighting games at bare minimum casual level. They get their dumpty whupped, and at that point either they stop and go for more accessible games to play, or jump into community discord/reddit to try and find answers.
Which leads to community aspect, where a lot of people are hypocrites who keep sayin 'let go of your ego', but they keep their own egos unchecked. A lot of these people put themselves up in their own pedestal just because they know how to flick stick and mash buttons better than 90% of populace. This in turn leads to terrible onboarding because they find people who can't understand what they're teaching (their fault for thinking how they learned FG is one-size-fits-all) to be lazy and egotistical. Of course people will become frustrated at losing and not understanding why they lost, how does that translate to 'egotistical'? Same people who keep saying 'learn at your own pace' don't seem to follow up on it and lose their patience, which leads to perception of FGC being toxic
So that's how I feel about FGC toxicity: it's a mix of genre's unique complexity leading people into a gamble whether they enter community with proper onboarding capability or not, and some people already in the community oblivious of their own toxicity and write off backlash as 'casual ignorance' when they were the ones unable to adapt and adjust their teaching method
@@gekinetichit the nail on the thread
@@gekinetic Love this comment.
It's not. Hold Ls and enjoy yourself with fellow players regardless of whether you win or lose.
If only tekken and sf players were as kind as vf players, huh
@@ClayvionWhite I met some great nice folks in both
every community degenerates with popularity because statistically, there will always be a certain number of assholes among the population, but assholes are emboldened by numbers so if there's only a handful of them in a smaller community they tend to shut up
I have to insist that gatekeeping is a behavior and not a tactic.
The people doing it never have skills themselves and this is a prime example of it.
Here's hoping that this is an example of growing pain in the community and everyone learns from it.
I've seen the same thing with Tekken but everyone hates playing Tekken unless they're playing your character then you hate it too. 😅
@@rensten4893 we in better position now than in the past. So many positive people in the scene now so it’ll be easier to keep the people who just want to be dicks quarantined
I have come to realize and accept that even for a small VF community, it is made up of niches within a niche. Nothing wrong with that and with how the internet is currently there are many avenues for all different niches (social media sites, twitch, unofficial VF Discord, official VF Discord, and even VFDC!). There will always be people you get along with and those you don't and that is fine! As veterans of VF who want to see the overall community grow. I suggest to those vets, if you happened to watch or read something related to VF that is incorrect or can be expanded on, politely let that creator know. Not one single person has influence over the "entire community". So the more the merrier!
It is a very different community than it used to be but for the better
Awesome video, Tricky.
Thanks, appreciate it!
I think any community has the potential to be both good and bad. It all comes down to curation and the behaviors that are tolerated and encouraged. I generally believe that any space can be welcoming and enjoyable, no matter the negative connotations or associations it might traditionally carry. For example, dismissing someone’s perspective with comments like, 'Oh, you got that opinion from Twitter/4chan/Reddit/Discord/ResetEra? Of course, it's dumb!' is unfairly stereotyping an entire platform without giving it a chance. Just as your algorithm or news feed can be tailored to your interests and niche, communities can thrive with proper curation and moderation, whether it's a subreddit, Discord server, or online forum.
Labeling an entire platform as bad does more harm than good. It's more productive to focus on improving specific aspects of a community rather than writing off its members wholesale. What happened here might feel like a setback, but I see it as a necessary learning experience-one that can ultimately help pave the way for a better future for Virtua Fighter, both for newcomers and long-time fans. In this new era of the FGC, where grassroots efforts are becoming less common and online communities are the norm, it’s important to build constructive spaces that unite players. If SEGA is looking forward to the future, we should do the same.
(Also, 11:20 gesundheit!)

Yeaaah, reddit fighting game communities are pretty touch & go for me. There's only so much positivity I can try to put in the world before becoming the joker reading some of the stuff people put on the internet next to their name.
But you know what I do instead of lashing out like an ass, I step away from the keyboard.
And remember folks : Iron sharpens iron, you want people to play the game. Noobs being interested is an opportunity to onboard someone into your game, not to gatekeep.
and it's also a nice surprise learning Tricky is the VF sub creator, I'll make sure to check it out more frequently. And be nice in it! Here's to the future of Virtua Fighter!
yeah I didn't really make a thing of it, literally made it on a random whim of, well if not me then who and when. Now I wanna make sure it doesn't turn into a cesspitt.
Someone show this to James Chen next time he says FGC is the most welcoming community
Just cuz we have problems doesn’t mean others don’t have it worse
I wouldn't say its the most welcoming, but it certainly is not even close to the truly toxic ones.
The fgc in the west has always felt like it has an old boys club problem. Too much status and sense of worth is tied to tenure in the community, compared to other spaces where newer games start off people on equal footing and new voices are always emerging.
I experienced something like Chad's experience very recently too, and it had me thinking why the hell am I even here! There ARE patches of legitimately greener grass out there, and it seems like both parties would be happy if I went and found them
I hope you don’t let them discourage you
@ It discouraged me for about a day but I’m back in there!
This is going to be an interesting video lol
How’d it go ?
@ It went very well actually..as someone who played VF casually when they were like 6-10 I cnt wait for more lvl 2 content so I can actually learn :)
I’m apart of a Facebook group for NZ/AUS Tekken players and my experience has been nothing but bliss but I haven’t even bothered looking at reddit yet😂
Most haven’t. It why I know it’s mostly folks who ain’t playing saying out of pocket shit
Everyone's singing koombaya in the comments and its all nice and stuff, but imma inject some harsh reality.
In Tekken, for example, many content creators are obvious shills and industry plants, that will fake hype up dlcs, complain about something at one point, then do a sudden 180 and start praising it, etc etc.
That thing splits the community in half immediately. Hope its not gonna happen to VF.
We been here over 20 years. We will be fine. No reality was provided and it’s not based in any data from the longstanding pre existing VF community.
That is natural outcome because the fg genre is in a problematic situation, so the community corresponds trying extra hard to show their support to help their favorite game to actually survive. Literally all franchises either are or were in a life or death situation... SF, MvC, TK, MK, SC, DOA, VF, KOF, etc. Which is not easy to see in game genres of massive appeal. And those experiences, combined with the maturity of the community (collectively), motivated that "positivity" movement to help the franchise.
The truth is that these franchises really need that push overall. Just like they need to rip off the community with (at least) dlc characters to make minimally decent cash, because simple standalone releases are not enough anymore. Notice in all modern releases how the whole genre works like that. SNK recently revived Fatal Fury, that will be released next year after a break of 25 years, and it's getting dlc... because that's the only way to do well now.
I elaborated on that second part just to say that there are very high chances that there will be controversies in the VF world about adopting "modern practices" of the fg industry. Which just doesn't exist yet because the game was basically stuck on the ps3. So you will likely find community dynamics that are similar to those in more successful fgs. Better understand that and be prepared already.
I have a question for you, do you think everyone that’s in VF5 is going to be in VF6?
@@ChaseTooCold nobody knows that. History tells us the answer is yes with maybe not taka.
Interesting to me how people say reddit is extremely "toxic" when I feel it is velvet kid gloves. You seem like a pretty smart person. Its easy to run circles around a redditor. Maybe you just like to keep your fighting in vf
Yes
Lmao Thank you on speaking on people using Japanese phrases for the VF jargon, Idk shit about VF but when I see people talking about it I’m like these mfs ain’t speaking English.
Reddit is where anyone not liked by their community goes and it's glaringly obvious why when they type lol.
Didn’t know Rooflemonger did all that shit for you. I know VSAV community don’t like him for stuff he made and he’s had beef with some parts of dbfz community, but if he’s doing all that then he’s okay.
Biggest takeaway I had from this whole saga is that VF gotta stand up for itself and set the example on how to communicate these ideas to other folks who wanna get started. There’s a lot of good strong players coming up and their insight would be valuable. Reach out with a hand first rather than wait for them to speak to us.
Dude has been so helpful behind the scenes. A lot of larger creators have been and continue to be. I don't talk about it cuz it feels gauche. I have heard some issues in those scenes too, and I dunno. Given my own experience with my own scene, there are surely people who hate him in my scene too for whatever random slight that was made to the wrong person inadvertently through some indirect comment. From what I've seen/heard regarding those community issues it doesn't make sense to me, but I"m not also going out of my way to dig into some super specific inside baseball (which was my read on what I had seen or had presented to me months ago).
We have scenes with out and about Nat**is' who call themselves that word in the FGC. I think our ire is better focused on them.
@ “people with health issues” is Clayton. I think I should not have an opinion on their whole thing because they have been beefing for what seems like forever. Like 50 Cent and Ja Rule.
@@jktwiceft ditto regarding not having an opinion on that whole thing. Shit I am polarizing for some people.
@ making sense of that drama is impossible. Not worth the energy.
I love fighting games but other than doing tournaments, I really don’t engage with the community at all because of this attitude. I do feel it is much better than it was before where more people are reaching out. I feel it was a lot worse even 10 years ago.
You are 💯 correct
***Almost Every*** fighting game that i've played and quit has been because of the playerbase and people that I had to interact with and/or see mouthing off, not the game itself. So, I hope the same doesn't happen with Virtua Fighter! Lookin' good so far!
everything has issues, humans gonna human. When good people leave, less are left. You'll find a place somewhere.

Gonna have to make as much distance between yourselves and the Sauds as possible. That Sega video really turned me off the game.
Well I won’t need to try too hard lol.
It's all a balance, you're going to those who are genuine, kind, and willing to give you advice, and you are going to have those that are ether A. Elitist B. Narcissistic or C. Trolls. That doesn't give 2 shits if you're new, amateur, or pro. That is, unfortunately, the laws of the jungle in the fighting community. It's a balance.
Right. The balance has been off for VF online specially for a while. Specially when it’s faceless users.
