I’ve had time to get used to Jesse and Alyssa seemingly always managing to do amazing things, but I truly am blown away by the hard work, spirit and amazing craftsmanship displayed by the volunteers under the guidance of the Shelter staff. I’ve seem more and worse mistakes perpetrated by so called “professional” builders. I guess this proves that if you care about what you are doing you will do better than someone just “doing a job.” Bravo everyone. You, too, Levi! The videos are awesome!
Alyssa, I am so impressed with how you have used the music in the build videos. The whole build has been such an escalating emotional experience to watch. The videos you edit make me feel like I am right there watching everything. The perfectly placed music makes it seem like a movie soundtrack.
Regarding the couple of mistake and and the good attitude shown. I'm so glad they didn't make a fuss about it. Life's all about how to fix mistakes rather than throwing blame. All construction managers contend with material variances, labourer errors, engineers measurements that don't line up in the real world and architects with their impossible designs. As a mine-site construction labourer I was always shimming, cutting, sanding, grinding, drilling to make parts line up or fit.
I've been watching you guys since the beginning and I have zero interest in building one myself but I'm sitting here grinning ear to ear like you guys just to watch all your work come together like that. Congratz!

Im old, unable to do this type of work any longer, but in some meaningful way, I am right there with you, rooting all of you on. Many years ago, I learned to box frame in my early 20's, and wish I had continued on down that path because of the people I met and the beautiful custom homes I worked on. Ive been watching these videos for well over a year now...and I absolutely love the fellowship demonstrated from real timber framers, especially the beautiful people who comprise the TImber Frame Workshop and their students.I have severe COPD now, makes life real difficult, but these videos do more than illustrate how to build a timber frame. After 20 years of building Log & Timber Frame Homes I have worn out many body parts , 1 knee replacement, 3 hernia surgeries, sore back. Usually with just a 4 man crew. From sill plate to finish work we did it all. Got 1 more to built for my daughter's family. 24 x 36" western red cedar shiplap T & G 8" logs with flat inside. Timber Frame interior system. Green metal roof with solar.

As a young child in South Dakota (1960 ish) I had a toy called 'Lincoln Logs.' A lot of round notched sticks of different lengths you could use to assemble a tiny/toy cabin with. I have never forgotten those because things through the years keep reminding me of that. This is another one of those. Thank you!
Every single person involved in this project will count this experience as one of the highlights of theirs lives. In these days it is good to see such good in humanity!

Mistakes are bound to happen even if this was a full professional crew and that's what puts the character into the end product. Jesse and Alyssa's attitude about the mistakes speaks volumes... I believe they handled quite well. Putting it in the closet area is perfect, it can be a reminder of this class and all the hard work people did and recognize mistakes happen and they are not a big deal. This is so much better to watch than the news and other shows on TV. Tomorrow we have to get on our roof and start working on a partial re-roof. Hurricane Irma took it's toll by blowing a pecan tree of pecans onto the roof at hurricane speeds. I sat up all that night listening to the nuts hitting the roof and just knowing in a few months their would be hundreds of leaks. The roof is over 25 years old and would need a re-roof soon anyways. It is so exciting watching this. We watched the new Star Wars movie tonight and I am enjoying this more, as this is real life.

I am aware of those facts. I was merely suggesting that the spirit here is more like that of a group of neighbors getting together for a “barn raising” than the usual attitude of contractors that you can hire. Obviously the gamut of human behavior governs contractors and I have experienced both the best and worst in those I have hired. This professional staff with paying students have achieved something that heartens back to a “spirit” that supersedes most of what I have seen and experienced.
This is reality tv, not the crap that we get from the big networks. This is about people who want to learn new skills and are learning and making mistakes.
Seeing your home come together is just awesome , I just wish that medically I could have been there to help in some way , but congratulations to the two of you and I can't wait to see it come together

Watching this come together has been so incredible.. Awe inspiring.. For me personally, this was almost a holy experience. Let the emotionally dwarfed make their stupid remarks.. They mean nothing.. No doubt made by people who have never tried anything close to this achievement. When I say that for me it was almost holy, I am referring to the marvel of watching complete strangers work together to CREATE BEAUTY. This house, to me at least, is a living thing. It consists of the culmination of dreams, blood, sweat and tears. A lot of money, yes... But because of the amount of personal sacrifice, the team work, and the necessary drive to complete what was once only the beginning, this is a huge testimony of what we can do when we dream, sacrifice, and create together. I don't usually make long comments, but my old heart is just flowing over with joy for all of you. You are much richer for having chosen this road. God bless you all.... Tricia

I wanted day 5 so bad I'm drooling. It is so frustrating to have to wait till Sunday for day 5. But then it's hard to imagine how excited Jesse and Alyssa must have been to have the frame up. But not be able to dry in because of weather!!!
My guess how they feel: Like some Christmas where you get some awesome present that in your childish mind will totally change your life, make everything great and you'll be happy forever. And they look at it and can't really believe it's really for them! All these people did this for them! That is my guess how those two feel.

Those timbers frames are so beautiful! The joinery is amazing! Now I understand why Jesse had to get the beams sawn to the right dimensions.

Watching this come together has been so incredible.. Awe inspiring.. For me personally, this was almost a holy experience. Let the emotionally dwarfed make their stupid remarks.. They mean nothing.. No doubt made by people who have never tried anything close to this achievement. When I say that for me it was almost holy, I am referring to the marvel of watching complete strangers work together to CREATE BEAUTY. This house, to me at least, is a living thing. It consists of the culmination of dreams, blood, sweat and tears. A lot of money, yes... But because of the amount of personal sacrifice, the team work, and the necessary drive to complete what was once only the beginning, this is a huge testimony of what we can do when we dream, sacrifice, and create together. I don't usually make long comments, but my old heart is just flowing over with joy for all of you. You are much richer for having chosen this road. God bless you all.... Tricia

I wanted day 5 so bad I'm drooling. It is so frustrating to have to wait till Sunday for day 5. But then it's hard to imagine how excited Jesse and Alyssa must have been to have the frame up. But not be able to dry in because of weather!!!
