Last year in southern Texas I hosted a buff bellied hummingbird....beautiful with a bright orange red beak. I love the variety! In Kansas we only had the ruby throats...which I love too! But especially love having more than one kind now. Our season is getting ready to start soon.
@@loveishope4406 Not yet, just the one. 🙂 I keep hoping that he brings his friends and families over! My neighbors just added feeders to their yards. This is the first year for all of us , so we have to be patient. I’m just so super excited that we have one!
@@loveishope4406 *technically, this is the second year since I started in June 2023. But it has not yet been a full 12 months so I am still in my first year of feeding the hummers.
When I lived in Arizona, I had different varieties of hummingbirds. Prior to there, I had only seen Ruby throat. I wish now I recognized other types. Perhaps if I knew your youtube channel back then, I may have known more. Oh well, it was a great joy to feed them all there. God bless and thank you for all the information.
I enjoy our hummingbirds here in Arizona. We have them year round but in the hot summer months they struggle. But I love them and my 3 feeders always have nectar for them.
I’m always amazed at how many species you have. In northern Illinois, I’ve only seen Ruby Throated Hummingbirds. I’ve read that there are other species, but they’re rarely seen. Regardless, the ones that I see are gorgeous!
It's very interesting to see the different types of hummingbirds that you have! I was just telling my husband today that in 6 to 7 weeks, I will be putting out 2 feeders, one in a flower bed, and one on the porch. ❤😊😊❤
Love the video , Thank you so much! Here in Fresno I have lots of hummingbirds in the garden but sometimes its hard to identify them :) What flowers do you plant for them?
Thank you for sharing your experiences. Since retirement, I have been caring for hummingbirds. I live a little north of you at 1600 ft. I, too, have the varieties of hummingbirds you describe in this video. We lost a little Costa ? the other night with the wind chill. The little guy I called "Lil Homey" would claim a feeder and chase the others away constantly. I feared he was expending much needed energy. That night, he chose to roost on the feeder. ( I had put umbrellas over the feeders to keep them out of the rain) Well, it was like a wind tunnel, and the wind chill must have been too much for him and did not wake up. He was still clutching on to the feeder. I am so sad to have lost such a beautiful and delicate bird with so much character. The birds try to stay close to the feeders in inclement weather. Do you have any suggestions to help them stay warm in the winter?
What beautiful birds. Thank you for this video on telling them apart. The only ones that i have seen are the rufus at ny house so far. But i am recoing my bird feeder area and just dedicating one area just fir the hummers. I hope ut works. I have fountains and feeders for them.
@Robbie and Gary Gardening Easy Is there a way to buy something to give some spf from the hard sun in Oklahoma? The garden shade cloth is so expensive. Thinking if anyone who who would know, it would be you :) Thank you for all you do :)
Question: In southern ca I want to leave the feeders out for a couple of months in which flowers are scarce, is it cruel to do that? I hate for the time when I have to take the feeder away and they sadly desperately look for the feeders that are gone. The reason is because I can only put the feeders up at my parents house and it is inconvenient to do that so I only want to do it for when they really need the extra food. If I had my own house I would gladly put multiple feeders out year round, but that will not be for a while...
You do the feeders for the birds that will work for You. What ever system you come up with that works, is fine. It’s just that if there’s not enough food, and your feeders aren’t there, they’ll just move on. But the locals will periodically look for them, and watch when you put them out. 😊
Robbie I have one that has pink neck and head , what kind is this humming bird do you think? I’m going g to save this video so I can learn what my hummingbirds are.
I don't have any humming birds yet.. because they are at your house.. 😂 I just enjoy all your videos.. thank you.
I can’t wait for Spring in Ohio
Amazing!! I can't wait for the hummingbirds to return to Central Texas.
These are fabulous videos.

I would not get anything done if I have as many hummingbirds as you do, I would want to sit and watch them all the long, they're beautiful birds.

So if you get a water bath for them do they also make a mess around it? We have a patio not a garden.
