Thanks for the review and showcasing the beach line. I have an Orvis (0204) two handed rod, 7/8w, 12.6’, mid-flex 7.0 that was purchased for Erie, PA Steelhead, and could just never get it right due to limitations in lines availability (purchased the rod over 13-15years ago). Your ease of application remakes me want to shake the dust off the rod and give it another try for bigger River fishing (Yough River, Southwest PA) or even try some beach surf fishing. I appreciated all of your insight and sharing of knowledge.
Hello Peter and thank you for your nice reviews. I got an older GLX Switch 11” 5wt. How would you describe the difference between my rod and the ShortSpey? Regards Stefan
I haven't cast the GLX 5 wt. in a long time, but I remember it having a moderate action that bent deeply. Except for length, I think that you would find the actions similar to the lighter weight ShortSpeys.
Spey lines have front tapers that are much longer than overhead lines. Often the front taper on a Spey line is more than one half the total length of the head. Typical overhead lines have front tapers that are only one quarter the total length of the head, or even shorter.
Peter, can you safely add 4 line weights to regular trout lines for a 3 wt spey, ie 7 wt or should you try to match the grain weight load for that particular trout spey rod? Is the circle spey another name for the snap T cast?

Based on the bend from those little bass, it looks like the 4 weight is more appropriate for swinging the Delaware for +25" trout...
Yup, I think the 4 wt. would be a better idea for bigger fish and bigger water. The 3 wt. would handle a 25" trout, but it would be a workout.
@@hooked4lifeca appreciate the response and all of your great content!
That's a wonderful rod. What reel (make and size) are you using? Looks like a well balanced rig.

Define spey like tapers with respect to overhead lines?

I pay more attention to weight, its distribution and head length.
