I went to starbucks and bought a cup and asked for spent ground. They were so glad that I took over 100 pounds of ground off their hands

The Starbucks that I obtain my grounds from have asked to see pictures of my garden and are very glad to see me. They are even very apologetic when they don't have a lot of grounds!

Same exact experience. I asked the hippy behind the counter if I can have some spent grounds, he asked what I was planting. Aparently, I wasn't the first to ask for this. Either way, about 80 pounds for free, he said call ahead next time, because this time of year at least 5 people a week come for old grounds.

Do they dispose the spent grounds in a separate trash bin from a common trash bin? Do all shops do this???

Starbucks has a "grounds for your garden" program so you don't have to spend anything. They have free bags prepacked ready to give away. I think Costa also has something similar.

This is great to hear....I am starting a little garden in the backyard in pots.. hoping to transfer to a kiddie pool!! Just some green peppers, green onions, tomatoes, and celery...to see how things turn out. Thanks for this ... I'm going to go by Starbucks and see what I can get to grow the best ❤️.

I have been telling this to people for years and years and years, I am so glad someone else finally said it. I've found that spent tea grounds produce a similar result. Coffee grounds are one of the foundations of my compost. I only wish I had found this channel sooner.

As a single old man, I don't have a lot of coffee grounds or garden. I dump my grounds in an old cake pan in the oven, along with eggshells and tea bags. These get thoroughly desiccated when I bake. When the pan is full, I crush the shells and run it all through my old Waring blender. My reasoning is that the residual acidity in the grounds on the pulverized eggshells makes the calcium more available. I use this as a component in potting soil (my cacti love it) and top-dressing on my garden plants. BTW, coffee grounds produce fat worms, great for bait.

I collect the coffee grounds from the break room where I work. I brought in a 5 gallon bucket and leave it next to the trash can by the coffee pot. That makes it very easy for the people that make the coffee. That's my tip, leave a container and make it easy for them to supply you.

Thanks for the great video, Dan. I call in the morning and have them set aside the days grounds in the afternoon, that way they know I'll be coming and its quick and easy. Also, I made a discovery that BEES LOVE COFFEE GROUNDS. I made that big so you'd see it. I put a pile on a bed in winter here in Colorado and that pile attracted a swarm of bees consistently for 2 weeks or more. They came on the warmer days and reduced the pile's size noticeably. Maybe you can experiment with this and tell us what you find. I also saw they liked certain grounds more than others. Happy gardening!

You can forget the idea that coffee grounds and egg shells repel slugs. I spread them liberally all around my zucchini plant but each morning I would find a slug or too nestled under my plant after a night of feeding. So, I spent several nights in a row hunting and gathering them up to reduce the population and then I sprinkled slug bait, a harmless product, and had no more problems with them.

what a timely video with useful information. I have been getting coffee grounds for about a month now and using them around the fruit trees like you showed, around the veggie garden, and a heavy sprinkling in the woodchip pile. How often would you recommend using the grounds around your plants and trees? Once a week, once a month, couple times a year? I know too much of one ingredient is not always best even though it is free and available in abundance. Thank you for taking the time to share.

I am inclined to use coffee grounds on my crops. They have high nitrogen and that's what I'm looking for. every info I get says that it is slow releasing meaning the nitrogen content won't be available to the plant until it starts to decomp. Nobody is able to tell me how long that process takes. Adding nitrogen late to my crop will do more harm than good. that is why I'm reluctant. it would be helpful if somebody can provide me such info
