Isn't it ironic that we're obsessed with figuring out the end of the movie, just as Rose in the film was obsessed with figuring out the end of Friends, yet missing the crux of the matter? It's amazing that no one has noticed it so far. The directors did a good job. The end of the movie is ultimately a mirror of our reality.

Spot on. Rose cares more about two fictional Characters rather then the main people in her life. Witch like you have stated is the case today. People care more about celebrities then each other.

    • @leveljoe

      Nope not ironic at all.
To leave a frightened woman stranded on the roadside?
      WTF
      It was a cyber attack.
      It was civil war.
      It was a coup d'etat.
      It was a microwave weapon.
      C'mon.....
The world is collapsing around the characters and they sit around drinking wine and listening to music while their children roam around unsupervised.
The son's teeth are falling out, so let's throw pills at the problem and see what works.
The stand-off on the porch was predictable and ridiculous.
The handyman would have shot them both, AND if he was a believable "prepper," he wouldn't have traded medications for paper money that is essentially worthless in their scenario.
Who would see the need to bomb the city?
Without food, water, and electricity the city would destroy itself.
Soooo many problems and plot holes.
The girl got to watch her ending?
      Yeah, so?
If this is truly a commentary on today's society, bring on the end...

Rose states, “No one ever listens to me.” She pointed out the ship getting closer, and then she is leading the line of the family running for their lives. Furthermore, she is the first to see the cluster of deer and is dismissed when she tries to tell them about the incident. Finally, she notices the Thorn house and says that they should go there. In the end, she knows ‘no one listens to her’ and decides to embark on her own. She leads the way again, and her reward is that she sees the finale - much as she has seen the ‘finale’ (the fall of the country) all along.

To me the ending was so obvious. The women stopped and looked right at the house saying that they're going to check in there for her daughter. You could also hear them yelling for her outside the house before she went into the bunker. It's very quiet, but she stopped because she heard it. And the men said they had to find the bunker immediately, so they were clearly on their way to that house. It's more of a attack of the American myth someone is coming to save you. Doesn't matter if it the cop's, the next president, the military, you name it noone is coming to save you when things go horrible wrong. When death is seconds away the cop's, the EMS or the military are minutes away. Technology has even made things worse because as a kid in the late 80s/90s if you broke down you were actually on your own with no cellphones to call anyone, no internet to tell you what to do. For me, the movie reminds me of how much we rely on technology. Without it, ships and planes crashing, computers going haywire, instant communications disabled with no cell phone, TV, radio, or internet services, being lost without GPS services, etc. It will be survival of the fittest, prepared for unthinkable events. I think we rely too heavily on technology in this day and age.

    • @zero11010

Radio would still work. People can communicate across continents with radios. Satellite radio like in that car wouldn’t work if the satellite wasn’t working. But a normal analog radio would be fine.
And normal citizens do have radios that can do things like that. It’s a whole hobby for some people.
It absolutely would allow for people to speak to one another and allow for the government to communicate with the population.
Any car more than about 15 years old would generally be unaffected. Lots of home stereos would be umunpacted. Old televisions would still work.
The movie is bad science fiction dressed up to seem realistic.
The lack of communication is nonsense. The nuclear strike is nonsense. The kid’s teeth falling out is nonsense. The deer are obviously nonsense. I haven’t thought about what people would do that would impact “migration patterns” like that, but I think that was all nonsense and at best a red herring. The plan they showed with the passenger planes was nonsense. The flyers were nonsense.

    • @MixedCompany2020
      @MixedCompany2020 11 місяців тому +21

@zero11010 I appreciate your comment and respect your opinion but would have to disagree on some things. Even though they are still useful, not all, but most people are phasing out or have already phased out antennas on their stereos, tv's and cars. (I do not think Teslas have AM/FM capability and that could be a trend with other car manufacturers.) Satellite and internet streaming have mostly taken over now. The point is that crucial information would be slow and a mass if people would be left out if our current communication technology were disabled. Plus, the current and ongoing advancements in A.I. could make the world a more dangerous and very scary place in the near future. A lot of our infrastructure could be disabled by foreign adversaries. But... that's just my opinion.

    • @beardysam2052

Sure without technology things change, but the twist of this film is that it’s not about weird lonely preppers, it’s about groups of people who trust and support one another and succeed.
Most apocalyptic shows are written by cynical hyperindividuals as a libertarian fantasy but this film is a lot more reasonable about the benefits of allies.

@@MixedCompany2020 I hear you. And I like the way you disagree!
Tesla sold 300,000 cars in 2020. That is out of 14.5 million units. That’s 2% of cars sold that year. The VAST majority of cars on the road are not Tesla and this is pretty much the ONLY company doing this.
The VAST majority of cars on the road are not new. The average car is 12.5 years old (284 million cars … half of them would have these radios). The average US salary is 58k and the average new car price is 48k. The average person isn’t buying a brand new car. For example virtually all dealerships sell both new and used cars. There are lots of dealerships that only sell used cars. And, people sell their own used cars.
Go to an intersection. Look for cars with a long radio antenna. Newer digital style antenna look like a little fin on the roof rather than the longer old school style.
Is it half the cars that still have those? I imagine it depends on where you are.
Plus … any radio with an antenna. You know not everyone is young, right? 17% of the US population is over the age of 65.
Contact 5 people you know over the age of 65. Ask them if they have any way to listen to the AM radio … I would bet you money they have classic cars, and/or old stereo equipment, and/or emergency radios, old portable radios.
Personally … the only thing in this category I have would be an emergency radio. These are commonly sold … for communication in emergencies. It’s one way. I can only listen. But, I do have a friend nearby who actually has a lot of radio equipment to listen to people from around the world.
Go ahead and google emergency radios. Most retailers that sell outdoor equipment will sell them.
      This really isn’t rare.
If my emergency radio stopped working (battery, solar, and hand crank are options), I would go to a neighbor. I’m guessing virtually every home in my neighborhood with people over the age of 60 would have this kind of thing. Just looked out my window … I see 6 cars that are more than 15 years old and would have these radios. If that didn’t work I would look for ANY emergency vehicle. If that didn’t work I would look for any big rig style truck. They use CB radios for their daily communication.

I believe that another way to think about the use of the color blue in relation to safety is that blue light is often emitted from media screens, our phones and TV's, which we often find comfort in on a daily basis. The whole premise of the movie was that we lose connection to those devices, or our outlets of comfort. The entire movie Rose was trying to get back to her media comfort and was able to find it in the end. It can be a metaphor how we have lost touch with the natural world and only find comfort in our devices. It's even interesting to see how Rose was happy watching Friends, while the whole country is in chaos--Screens over reality.

A lot of people seem to hate the ending, but I don’t think it’s terrible and it actually makes complete sense; the girl has her own perspective shown throughout the film, just like the mom and dad, while the Son is not as integral and shares a lot of time with the dad. It’s only fitting where it ended, as the movie isn’t about WHAT is going on and causing the “world to end” but HOW people act and treat each other. The movie starts off with Julia Roberts saying she hates people. Idk, I thought it was good. Just seems like people want things spoonfed rather than have to think about what they saw and come to their own conclusions.

    (Spoilers below)
Three things I noticed that I haven't heard anyone talk about yet.
    1. When the Jenga toy block building that they are playing in the house falls in the beginning it is reminiscent of the 9/11 twin towers falling due to a terrorist attack which is heavily implied to also be a cyber terrorist attack in this film.
    2. GH's daughter says that the other girl "keeps staring into the woods like Donnie Darko.” And there is a prior shot of the same clock that looks like a frowny sad face that is the exact same clock (type) that was used in the movie Donnie Darko. It was in Donnie Darko's living room I believe.
    2. In the scene where New York is burning and the missiles are going off, the two characters stand in disbelief and grab each others hands as they silently watch the buildings fall. Sound familiar to anyone? Should "Where is my mind" by Pixies be playing during this scene? Because that's straight up Fight Club. And sure enough in one of the final shots in the film as the camera is zooming in on the wall that has the DVD collection, what movie do you see that stands out the most? Fight Club! Which was also a movie that was about how to take down and reset America (or a society) which is basically what this movie is also about but just in a different context.

There are still a good amount of details/plot lines that are unanswered. This movie seem like a movie where nothing is included for the sake of it, which is why some of these unanswered questions are driving me mad lol. Everything seems very intensional, especially after learning about some of the deeper meanings/ references included in this film.
    1. Why was Amanda in such a rush to get out the city at the start of the film? She booked the rental home and began packing whilst everyone was still asleep and unaware they were going on a trip. Also conveniently on the day of the blackout?
    2. Why did two planes crash in the exact same spot? Weird, no?
    3. Why did all the news notifications on Amanda’s phone completely disappear?
    4. What was up with the human imprint in the leaves in the shed? Ik the son made up the story to scare his sister but it made the viewer expect something to come of this story (as it does look like someone has been sleeping there) or for something to happen later in the film but it never does.
    5. Why were the kids “unfazed” after the ship crashes on the beach? Amanda mentions this to Clay which implies there could be a deeper meaning to this but again, nothing is mentioned in the film.
    6. Kinda ties into the fifth point but why doesn’t no one talk about what happens when they’re separated? When G.H sees the planes, he only plans on telling Amanda and no one else. The kids don’t talk about finding the shed. Clay doesn’t mention the woman he saw in the street until much later on in the film. Found it weird that they where all keeping things to themselves.
There’s probably more that I haven’t mentioned but this is the list I have from memory

The character, Rose's, fixation on the show, Friends, to me, is indicative of how humans focus on things with no substance that do not serve us in any way. We are conditioned, brainwashed, and bamboozled and are completely blind to the fact that while we are focused on bullcrap, we should be preparing. Kevin Bacon's character is indicative of the prepared vs. the unprepared! When the time comes, and IT WILL, those who have prepared will certainly have to protect themselves from those who have not! The character, Clay, states the most reviting lines in the entire movie, " ...I have no idea what I am supposed to do right now. I can barely do anything without my cellphone and my GPS. I am a useless man...." Humans are extremely codependent on devices/technology. Who has an actual paper map these days? Can anyone name at least 5 people who have a bunker with stocked food, supplies, amo, medicine, etc! During the trial run that they pulled on us with that lockdown, there was a lack of food and supplies, and it seems to have taught us NOTHING! We were so focused on "getting back to normal" that we missed the whole point!! We came out of it, adjusted to the new normal, and are as screwed as we were before the PLANdemic. When I try to talk to my family about preparing, they are only focused on the distractions that the elite have set before us, sports, clothes, sneakers, cars, rappers, so-called stars and all of that bullcrap!! So, I'm doing it alone! It's difficult, but I'm doing it!! The message to me was PREPARE before it's too late!!

I've posted this in 3 other videos breaking down this movie. I thought I may as well post it here as well...
I haven't seen anyone connect the dots with the girl's story about the man who believed in God. The end of that story is, "I sent a message, I sent a boat and I sent a plane (all things that happened in the movie). What more did you want?" Only the youngest, most innocent character in the movie (who was largely ignored by everyone else) was saying that it was all a message. She alone felt drawn to the fully stocked bunker--a place of refuge and plenty. The last words of the movie are, "I'll be there for you".
To those who say she is selfish are missing out on the point that all of the other people in the movie were ignoring her. She tried to tell them they were being given a message but nobody even cared to ask what she thought. Many accuse her of abandoning her family when it her family that abandoned her. And it doesn't take a leap of imagination to believe after watching the last episode of Freinds that she doesn't pedal her bike back ro the others and lead them to the bunker. After all--Danny had told them it was there as well. She was just the first of them to find it.

No Soliciting signs are common in the US, usually in more affluent neighborhoods. Before I bought one, we'd get 3-5 people ringing the doorbell each week trying to sell their services. The first time I answered the door, the guy talked for 5 minutes about his pest control service before I said we're actually in here discussing a death in the family, and he said he'd come back in an hour. Like wtf. That's what prompted me to buy a sign.

It's funny how different people take different things from the movie like an art piece. For me, Mahershala Ali's character is an allegory for how an African-American/black man must operate to survive in this world. He turns his code switching role on when he has to appear non-threatening and extremely passive in his own home. Like we see in the news or on the internet, things can go south quickly even when you are in your own home (look up Henry Louis Gates Jr.incident). Once things get into high gear, he turns his code switching off and is willing to protect those he has formed a bond with. You want his character on your side no matter what situation you're in. Lastly, whenever I see kids characters in movies nowadays, I'm like the screen writer doesn't remeber being a kid or has never been around children ever. Either the kids are written as a lot wiser than the adults or foolishly "brave." Every parent knows that when there is a scary situation, even the "bravest" child runs to the safest adult (ex. Watching a scary movie). Weeks or even years of sleeping with a night light, bedroom door open and/or the dreaded sleeping in the same room with parents....ugh..one of most parents'worst nightmare...lol!

Of the Henry Louis Gates Jr. incident:
Henry Louis Gates Jr. was arrested by Officer Crowley upon returning home from a trip to China, to find the front door to his home had been jammed shut from an apparent burglary. Gates later revealed during a National Press Club luncheon that he had met with Crowley for a beer prior to the Beer Summit at the suggestion of President Bill Clinton. Gates said that he was 'moved' when Crowley told him "Professor, all I wanted was to go home to my wife at the end of the day." Gates further recounted that Crowley 'had feared that ANOTHER BLACK MAN had been upstairs who could at any moment have come down and killed him.'...🙄 Gates said he was 'moved to tears' upon hearing that..😒
Imagine being 'moved to tears' (instead of anger) upon hearing someone say they feared being killed by a (nonexistent) Black man based on you're being Black, after they'd arrested you for trying to get into your own home?✨
The code-switching of Ali's character 'George' Scott & his need to appear extremely docile for the Sanfords in his own home grated me throughout the movie because it came at the expense of his daughter, whom he should've been putting first. She (rightfully) expressed her discomfort at entertaining those strangers in their home, but he was so willing to accommodate them, he re-accepted them back into his home after they returned & then, he continued to make his daughter sleep in the basement rather than her own room upstairs, just to set those strangers at ease. Later, when she practically begged him not to leave her, (or at least not to separate from her), George, a potentially widowed father, was so compelled to be there for another family that he left his grieving daughter to fend for herself with renewed fears of possibly losing her last remaining parent. As a Black person, this stuck out to me in a very unsettling way... It made sense why his name was 'George', since there was a time when Black men in service positions, expected to be accommodating to members of the dominant society, were often called by the name 'George', despite it not being their actual name. The guy pulled a hand gun on an armed survivalist he'd once considered to be his friend & was nearly shot for his efforts, giving no consideration of how his daughter would've been impacted had he not returned. I felt that had the Scotts & the Sanfords all been of the same race, then George's priorities may have centered on protecting what was left on his own family, rather than risking it all for someone else's. Dr. Claud Anderson would classify his actions as being 'inappropriate behavior', a learned response cultivated by existing under centuries of White/Elite supremacy. I think George was a perfect example of how many of us act against our best interests when it comes to dealing with people outside our own race. I think this also explains why the Sanfords didn't refuse sleeping in the master bedroom or offer to take the basement even AFTER they'd returned to George & Ruth's home from the Tesla incident, which is what most people would've done under the circumstances. The Scotts didn't have to let them back in, so it would've made sense for the Sanfords to come back with some humility.

“White Lion” was an English ship (carrying a Dutch marque: NY was a Dutch colony btw). It landed in 1619 at Point Comfort, Va, now Hampton VA. The film takes place in The Hamptons, NY. The town in the movie is also Point Comfort. On the drive to the house, the other location on the highway sign was Fort Mose Road, referring to Fort Mose in St Augustine, Florida. It was established by Spain as the first legally recognized settlement for free blacks escaping plantations in the English colonies of Georgia and South Carolina. To me it read as a kind of foreshadowing and counterpoint of the racial subtext.

I think maybe someone had been feeding them so when they saw people they were all like “ooooo treats!” But also a nod to the animals seeing us as help. There is no way they knew things were happening. However when the bombs started dropping, that seems like thats when they were spooked, while Amanda and Ruth were in the cabin. Just thoughts. It was the rest of the movie chock full of pretentiousness, red herrings, and especially the terrible plot devices that I hated.
I didn't want aliens. In fact I thought this was going to be some kind of kidnapping/escape type movie. I had no clue what it was about and at first I thought maybe Julia Roberts and Kevin Bacon had something going on because of the knowing look between them that ended up being a deceptive misdirection much like the father and daughter being soooo suspicious and then wagging a finger at us for thinking the black people are suspicious. They were ACTING suspicious. And the young people were walking stereotypes. And the teeth falling out was just stupid, but not as stupid as the whole "I NEED MEDICINE FOR MY BOY" trope and the miraculous blue pill that we're supposed to think will save him I guess? I don't know. That was left to interpretation which was fine since it was one of the rare instances that we weren't slapped in the face with obvious metaphors.

I think Rose left them (family) behind. She complained how she’s not important and ignored. This isolation made her more perceptive. Given her age, it would not be a stretch to assume she’d lock herself in the bunker (even if she heard them calling) due to their treatment of her and her desire to “give it all up” or whatever she said in bed after telling the tale of the man and the flood.

I also lean towards this opinion given how her first instinct when finding shelter was to eat all the food. She has no instinct for preserving her or her family's life, she wants to distract and eat herself to death. That's the sad reality of how screen addiction can impact children, before we even get to the treatment aspect she just fundamentally prioritizes comfort over preservation. And I think the metaphor she made was essentially that she's gonna jump on the first rescue opportunity rather than wait for all the signs of doom to manifest.

@@daveagard1884You really want to go there? Here's the thing, bucko- since you want to get "technical", and resort to name calling.
      Common sense aside, allow me to elaborate on some details for you to wrap your "superior" head around;
Rosie's Mother Amanda & Ruth were mere moments away from entering that house themselves in their ongoing search to find her. If it had really been left to interpretation as to whether or not Rosie did/ didn't decide to close the door behind her rather than suggesting her keeping the door open as common sense would dictate, than the director would have shown something to indicate the possibility of that decision as soon as she'd entered the safe room. Instead, we see her investigating the room with the door open- before finally sorting through the massive assortment of DVD's, and discovering"Friends" amongst the collection. She immediately sat down, and began watching the final episode from the beginning. The episode in question is 48 minutes long, and given her obsession with the show it stands to reason that once the episode had begin playing, she'd continue watching it uninterrupted. Meaning, she's going to stay in that exact spot in front of the television until the aformentioned runtime is up. Rosie has demonstrated that she's selfish, sure. But when exactly did she demonstrate a lack of intelligence? Yes, there's plenty of food, and water for her to survive alone- but surely she's not incompetent enough to lock her family out, and leave herself vulnerable to whomever actually owns the bunker should they return. Much less, any problems she may face without adult help therein. And though George, Clay, & Archie were a little further than a hop, skip, and a jump away from the bunker than Amanda & Ruth were- the context of their last conversation before panning back to Rosie confirms it to be their next destination, and HEAVILY implies their being reunited with the rest of the group shortly after Amanda & Ruth get their themselves. Yes, anything could happen- they could crash into a tree, or be ambushed by fellow survivors on their way. HOWEVER, that's NOT what's being suggested here. All signs point to everyone getting there. Rosie just happened to get there first. NOWHERE is it implied that her locking herself in the bunker is a possibility. And all of the evidence listed above actually points to the contrary.

No truth (just dancing from a wedding) but peoples critical thinking was not working. Crying fire in the theater is criminal because behind confined and having a fire is fatal and no one will question the information. The pandemic and so called scientific facts showed this. There were 'facts' from MSM and then facts or just data from scientific journals.
