I own a Ruger Max 9 it’s been reliable and it’s super easy to conceal. I recently added a Galloway Precision trigger to my Max 9, it made my pistol a different gun! If you have Max 9 trust me on the trigger upgrade, get it.
I did the Galloway trigger upgrade when I bought mine a year and a half ago. Best upgrade you can do. I can get my fat fingers in the trigger well and it’s so smooth. 👍
@@Mud_Duck_SportsI know, it’s a totally different firearm now, I am way more accurate and it makes the gun faster. My Daily carry is a PSA dagger with a Brownells trigger, threaded barrel, suppressor height sights and a Vortex red dot, but I do use the Max9 when discrete carry is needed to a greater degree, it’s easier to hide. BTW: the PSA dagger is a great firearm, I highly recommend it.
I saw the same deal and thought of it myself. Ruger has been hit or miss in my experience. My Lc9s and Ec9s have been rock solid reliable. I purchased 2 LCP Max’s and both were turds. Constant stovepipes, failure to eject, jams, etc.. If it holds reliable, the Ruger Max 9 is a steal for $269.
@@spnfirearmslove your videos. I would love to by from my local gun-shops, but they are almost 2 times the price of buying on line. They wont even match the price. They tell me that I wont pay a transfer and background check , but there prices are still much higher.
I bought one of these a couple months ago and like it very much. The only negative I had to say was the factory trigger with its odd overly curved shape and long travel which I remedied by installing a Galloway Precision flat face short stroke trigger which completely changed and improved the personality of this pistol so now I love it.
Paying $399 is definitely over price! I bought one of these for a family member over six months ago for $269 at a local gun store. It has run flawlessly! Definitely on the bugdet side, but still a great carry pistol for the price!
Bought 2 a few months ago because of how affordable they are. One of them the finish rusted, I just kept using it and putting oil on it until it stopped and hasn’t rusted again. Factory guide rod is crap. At 400 rounds most break (mine bent), Galloway guiderod is a lot better (especially the one with more lbs). These are the same thing as a EC9, basically the same FCU just a wider frame and wider slide. I don’t like the springs they use for the trigger and other components like the safety and slide stopper, but it does the job. The rattle is the barrel and the trigger, with a bullet in the chamber and a aftermarket trigger like mcarbo it doesn’t rattle. I just use the max9 when working in the house or going places that are nearby. Good pistol for the money.
Solid gun, solid mags. Only issues with my max 9 and my LCP Max is the finish quality (they definitely cut cost there) and triggers. I put a ruby red cerakote and Galloway trigger on both the Max 9 and LCP Max and they are good to go. Solid, reliable, and most importantly, priced right. No regrets for me, they make a good pair.
I’ve thought about picking one up because of the budget price but I’m honestly content with my CZ P10M. My gf does carry a Ruger LCP Max and it did have some jamming issues initially but after a polish it’s been flawless.
3:08 - In some states (like Massachusetts for example) it's against state law to carry with a mag that holds more than 10 rounds, so the pinky extension is good for those folks. Yes, I understand they make inserts for the 12rd mag that only holds 10 rounds, however the legal battle would be a nightmare, because it would probably still be seen as "it's a 12-rd mag". Removing any sort of anomalies is the best course.. Great video! Thank you!
Galloway, and Mcarbo make awesome flat-trigger replacements for the factory junk trigger. And I believe if you cerokote the upper slide, it will add a level thickness to the material that will do away with the rattle.
I've had guns that didn't wiggle but it jammed every 3 or 4th round. Then after about 400 to 800 rounds it was broken in and stopped jamming. They can leave some play in it and avoid jams or make it super tight and cause a break in period before it will be reliable.
I bought this gun when it first came out. Great price for a pistol with tritium and fiber optic site, and optics ready. My issue was that mine had a jiggly trigger (jiggled side to side), the slide also felt loose. I ended up getting rid of it. Never had an issue with reliability and the grip texture was nice. My biggest issue was the slide lock. It was so tiny and somewhat rounded that my thumb just slid off it.
I’ve had the Max9 for a long time. Just switch the trigger shoe to a Galloway Precision Maxxis trigger shoe and you won’t be disappointed. The only other thing I did to it was add the Ruger Ready Dot to it, which I did just because I wanted to give it a try when it was on sale for 69 bucks.
Not too many other micro nines come with fiber optic Front sites and optic Ready out of the box? Especially at that price point. Most of them you have to pay for the extra Features..
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 The way you threw the rubber band and the lock was hilarious but I literally died of laughter when you tossed that cheap ass box to the side😂😂😂😂😂😂
this may be my first firearm , been looking into the used firearm ( glock , sig ) market and with all the dang fees , u end up paying the same as a new firearm . this is currently at 370 bux out here in So cal . thnks for your review bro 🙏🏼
This was going to be my baby.. but cant put a light on it so I went Canik Mete MC9 till i get my Mossberg MC2SC. Gotta love the Ruger Rattle. Think all Rugers rattle.
Got one late last year when it finally hit the California market. Love it. No issues yet. $379 compared to Sig 365 at $729 😦👎 after tax and fees you’re over $800. NO !!
This was my first gun. It feels great in the hand and it looks cool and I liked the sights but it’s not a smooth shooter at all. A Ruger EC9s is smoother. LCP Max much smoother. P365 much smoother (as well it should be price wise).
My max 9 was very difficult to find taget in low light at the range with that black rear sight, i have outlined it with white shoe polish and i will try give it another chance
I have enjoyed mine so far but I need to call for warranty service because it is no longer setting off the round when I pull the trigger. It appears to cock the striker when racked but feels different when I pull the trigger and I get a click no bang.
I had one a year or so ago and traded it in on something and recently wanted another so I got one last Wednesday and thought to myself….. I wonder if SPN did a video on this yet? Low and behold 😂
Kimber has been resting on their laurels for 15+ years. Back in 2005 a Kimber was like owning a classic corvette, now it’s like owning a new Geo Tracker.
We can finally get this magnificent little pistol in California, as its now on The Roster, albeit with the CA BS, mag disconnect, and big loaded chamber indicator.
My BGC ends tomorrow so I’ll be adding this to my arsenal. This will make for 36 total and I’m in California! So stop it with you can’t own a good arsenal in Ca.
You are doing a review of a gun??? And Not once did you show how it grips with the larger mag?? Always show whether the pinky finger fits the grip. Looks like yours is off with the flush fitting mag. Maybe not with the larger. That matters a ton with me. I'll bet it matters to lots of people. How your hand fits on a gun is so important....especially with compacts...and subcompacts alike.
Unfortunately, you paid MSRP. You can buy the regularly for $250-$275. It's very much an econo-carry with a lousy trigger and fit and finish on the poorer end of the class. Ruger doesn’t try to represent anything otherwise either. For what you paid, you could walk a Shield Plus home.
Ruger makes good guns, but they cut corners on some things to make budget. My Mini-14 is my main rifle, but it has the same shit finish as this. Also, the rear sight was trash. Rugers are like cakes. Great cake, exquisite stuff. But the frosting is cheap. Wipe off that factory frosting, and put some gourmet stuff on there.
I heard nothing but bad things about this firearm. A friend of mines owns and said it started rusting. I seen them on clearance for like $215 I might jump on it if it works out for you.
Is there some unwritten rule that mandates all youtube gun reviewers to show us that their guns are clear? These guys all know their guns. Throw a disclaimer up for 2 seconds saying all guns shown are clear and get on with the review. Good Lord. What are we all little kids here?
Eventually the spring for the slide catch will mess up. You’ll know because it also affects the takedown latch. When that happens just send it to ruger and they’ll replace the frame for you

yea at $400 id argue a cz p10c/s or a p09 is a better deal, also the sw sd40ve or a charter arms revolver

Really liked the feel of it.
But glad with my choice.
I have owned this hand gun for a while now. I picked it over the Canik MC9, Hellcat, Sig 365, and Glock. She runs flawlessly and looks good.....Keeper
The Hogue Grip for my LC9S really made a difference in it...
It will also fit the Shield and max 9 ....
