    This movie suuuuuuuuuuucks so incredibly bad. It literally has no characters. None. I can't name any of the bad guys. No fucking characterization at all. You never get to know anything about them. Nothing. One guy can send people to hell in his place, THAT'S ALL. The original had characterization coming out of it's ass! In less than three minutes of flashbacks, you knew EVERYTHING you needed to know about why Eric loved Shelly so much. There's no Albrecht, no Sarah, no nothing about the bad guys. The new film literally has NOTHING. Horrible in every conceivable way.

      I got so caught up in the story not working for me that I didn’t mention it, but I do think that aside from the CG blood, I do think it looked nice. I already said that I think the performances were good.

    • @MatthewGoodall-i7k
      @MatthewGoodall-i7k 24 дні тому

      @order42show No. Like I said, the characters were awful. You knew nothing about the villains. What was their deal? Why could the main guy send people to hell in his place? Who were any of his lackeys that seemed so scared of him? Why were they working for him? What were any of their names? How did the guy live for hundreds of years? What's up with that? Shelly's mom apparently sold her for a nice apartment and some cash? Why? How? How did that weigh on her? How about a teeny flashback showing us how that played out and how she had managed to evade him for so long? Eric? What's with the horse dream other than a nod to the comic? Who was that emaciated skank on his couch? Why was he in trouble and locked up to begin with? How about a closer look at the songs and art he was constantly making? That would have been helpful. Aside from the fact he looked every hipster, douchebag junkie in Hollywood, what was the attraction there? Why would a girl like Shelly be drawn to him? Maybe something aside from helping her escape her mysterious pursuers who also apparently walk into the weird, sci-fi rehab mall they were in and just take people? Maybe establish some time had gone by and they had to depend on each other? Anything to show why she would fall in love with this dude who isn't any less creepy when he's not dressed as a child eating clown? Or how about: WHERE THE HELL IS THIS PLACE THE MOVIE TAKES PLACE IN???? Is it France? Is it Vancouver? Who met him in the afterlife? Was that just a cheap location to green screen? Was it purgatory? Was it an in-between? Why have him offer to take her place in Hell when he was CLEARLY not in Hell at the end and it was never mentioned again? Who the hell was the guy that gave him the gun? Were they friends? Seemed like it, but I don't recall. When you walk out of the movie, struggling to figure out the basic plot afterward and can not really remember any of the characters or why they did anything they did, your movie has failed on every level. And the dialogue, Jesus Holy Crap. "If you ever find me difficult to love, love me harder." Thank god they were mostly mute for the whole film, I would've vomited. I feel like there's a solid hour of connective tissue scenes missing from this film. It made no sense at any time, in any way.

    The original comic is such a beautiful and haunting story. IDK why the strayed further from it.

    • @order42show
      @order42show  24 дні тому

      I can’t speak for anyone who made the film, but as someone who is TRYING to write…you want to put your own stamp on it. You want to tell a story through your own lens, but the idea (or the hope) is that this take is worthy and acceptable of the most amount of people, right? I don’t think anyone creates something in the hopes that people won’t like it.
      So, my thinking is that either
      1. the studio got involved and messed with the idea, maybe even suggesting that they name the characters the same as the original movie (this may have happened, especially considering parts of the movie that feel truncated or that a scene is missing)
      OR
      2. The idea just didn’t come together.
      It’s EXTREMELY difficult to get a movie to the finish line, it takes hours and hours of effort from so many people, and even when you work so hard, it still may not come together! Which, from my standpoint, it’s hard to just completely trash a movie, but to me it feels like it was the script that was the problem. It’s beautifully shot, and I think the performances are good, but that can only get you so far when the script lets you down.

    I read the comic before the first movie released in ‘94. I considered one of the best comics of the 90s up there with Sandman. I was there opening night for the original and I proceeded to see it 3 more times in a week. Just saw the 2024 version. They got a few things right but missed a lot of important things. The biggest thing everyone of these films has missed though is that the deaths of Eric and Shelly are random acts of violence by horrible people. They had the unfortunate position of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I wish that interoperation got made. my review is if you want to see a movie this weekend see Alien or watch the original. This movie is better left for streaming when it comes out in a couple of weeks.

    Hi there, Robbie.
    We meant at retropalooza Houston on the Saturday after the Game Chasers panel. I was that guy who talked to you about how you should go for the comedy high jinks that Billy Jay did in the past and to write in your script for the new Game Chasers Movie.
    Anyways I'm also a huge Crow fan and like yourself . I have the comic book movies and vinyl soundtracks. Since the first trailer came, I knew it was a hard pass and knew it was not going to uphold the srouce or lore of James O'Barr vision from his comic. There is only ever going to be one Crow. Two isnt bad, but the rest....ehhhh, three has some cool parts, but yea...i always had a scene in my head, what if instead of one crow, the main character has a whole flock/murder of crow? The bad guy kills one bird thinking hes got him, but then camera pans to a big tree and we see like 30 crows hanging out....yea, ive always had that scene playing in my head and we've had yet to see anything like that. I get you! My whole dating life is shaped by the '90s film characters like The Crow, Edward Scissorhands, Jack Skellington, Lestat (Interview with the Vampire), and Tyler Durden, defining my attraction to a particular type :)) However, let's bear in mind it isn't a remake, it's a new adaptation that reinterprets a story from its original source material, which could be a book, play, comic, etc. It might not be directly related to any previous film adaptation of the same source.

  • @JLPayne_78
    @JLPayne_78 21 день тому +1

    They claim it's a "modern re-imagining" but it ISN'T The Crow. Other than the names Eric Draven and Shelly Webster, nothing else is even remotely like the comic or the original adaptation. It's a Crow story that steals two iconic characters from the origin story so it can claim to be something it isn't. I thought The Crow: Wicked Prayer was the worst version of the mythology, but this is even more insulting because it took the names Eric and Shelly and butchered their story.

  • @LadyAxe13
    @LadyAxe13 22 дні тому +3

    The moment someone brings in the "modern audience" excuse, you know it is an irrefutable fail.
    Modern audiences would be more grateful if they were forced to consume the original films of all these train-crash remakes, because it would introduce them to the fantastical element of entertainment --- where film used to serve as an escape to another realm instead of regurgitating the miserable paradigm of real life we all suffer every day.

    To me it seemed like they were wanting it to be another Twilight, The Moody love struck Star-Crossed lovers.... They're hoping that they would be plenty of sequels and and that's all the old Twilight fans would watch it, it's very cheesy in in the dialogue and it just reeks of Twilight to me. It doesn't even have a hint of a smell of the crow, and even if this is another redemption, it should have been the crow: insert something here.+(Probably : the devil made me do it)

    Dude! This is 'The Crap' NOT 'The Crow!' Brandon Lee IS Eric Draven and ALWAYS will be! scarsguard is just an emotionless zombie...yeah...great performance there! • @order42show
      @order42show  21 день тому

      Well, here’s the thing…their performances are not the fault of the actors! They did exactly what the script and the director asked them to do, so if you have a problem with their characters, THAT’S where the problem is!
      I’d also say that the more I think about it, the more I think that it doesn’t even make sense for them to be called Eric and Shelly, as they’re nothing like those original characters. It makes me wonder if the studio asked for their character names to be changed to try and have that connection to the original movie. Now, this, of course, did NOT work and like you, it irritated me!
      If you think I “bought into” this because I don’t fault the actors, well, I don’t know how you could misunderstand that. I did not like this movie and would recommend it to no one.

None of those were Eric Draven They WERE EXACTLY what you asked why they didn't just have different characters. NONE of the films in the series had Eric and Sheely except for the original and this wreck. You need to go back and research my man. And you asked where's the humor?
