- How to remove the front bumper and headlights on the MK6 Volkswagen Golf
Model years: 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, depending on country.
Start by removing the grille which is held on by 4 T25 Torx screws along the top and then just requires a very hard pull from the bottom on both sides to release.
The bumper is also held on with T25 Torx screws. There are 4 in each wheel arch and between 6 and 8 underneath the car. As seen in the video you don't need to remove the second highest screw in the wheel arch. The screws in the wheel arches can be easily accessed by turning the front wheels the opposite way to which side you are working on.
Then where the grille has been removed there are 2 T25 Torx screws.
If your car is fitted with fog lights then be aware that at this point the wiring for them will need detaching before you pull the bumper fully away from the car.
The headlights are held on by 4 T30 Torx screws. 3 are visible along the top and 1 is lower down behind the fitting. To remove the connector use Bojo Tip 1 prior to removing the fitting. The fitting will then slide straight out. - Авто та транспорт
Everything we needed to know, spot on. Good to see a tutorial without tons of blurb.
Thank you for noticing, you found the video to get the job done, not hear a life story 😂
A little difficult to hear but an excellent tutorial - thanks! The bumper is a LOT less difficult to remove than I imagined it would be.
Good luck with the job!
Very clear, very simple - great video👌🏿
Thanks Aji!
Super helpful and detailed! Thank you for sharing and posting 🙌🏻😁
Thanks Matt, very glad to help! 👍
Thanks m8 came really useful for me
great video, i got one question... do you think a GOLF R bumper is gonna fit exactly like the stock one in terms of screws and clips?
Nicely done
Helpful vid 👍
Thanks great wee video.
Bien explicado. Buen video.
Thank you.
Thanks a bunch buddy I'm taking my 2011 gold 2.5 apart in front I crashed it but iv taking apart my 06 2.5 b4 so thanks
Glad to help! If you hadn’t commented I wouldn’t have known they ever put a 2.5 5 cylinder in the MK6 golf. Hope you get sorted!
Thanks for the video. Really helpful. Do you need to remove the bumper to get the headlight out or can you remove it without the bumper of ?
Hi Adz, I can’t quite remember but I think so because even though the screws are all on the top I think the bumper traps it in position still and I’d have almost certainly recorded a video only removing the lights if it was possible without removing the bumper.
you appear to be quite experienced on VW Golf models how many have you owned in the past? Also which has been the most reliable of them?
I’ve had 2 mk3s (1.4 and 1.8), 2 mk4s (1.6 and 1.9tdi), a mk5 GTTDI 170 and a MK6 GTD 170. I also had a Passat 2.0 TDI 170 which melted a piston due to oil pump failure. The one in this video was my sisters 1.6tdi which I definitely don’t recommend as an engine and she now has a scirocco 2.0 TDI 180. I’d say the one to have for reliability with economy in mind would be a mk4 1.9 TDI PD130.
Just got into a crash in mine. The guy went past a stop sign when I had the right away, I swerved and hit his back bumper. Decided to put a golf R bumper on and new headlights
Could I partially remove one end of the bumper to replace just one of the headlamps?
I couldn't tell you unfortunately, I've never tried.
Do you know if the Mk6 (2014) Golf has the lever inside the headlamp to switch it from RHD to LHD, I'm taking mine to live on the continent and my Volvo has it but not sure about the Golf ?
I have heard of the lever on some cars but I’m not sure whether the Mk6 golf has it. Hope you find what you’re looking for.
Mine has an option in the MFI to switch between RHD and LHD, but mine came with Xenons as standard, dunno about the halogens.
Is it the same for the golf mk6 estate ?
Yes the front is the same
Do you have to remove the front bumper to change the headlight?
Yes
4:53 what tool is it ? Something tip 1 ?
Bojo Tip 1
Helpful vid shame the screws on mine are rusted stiff and one side is broken so won't come out
There’s a reason I don’t have many videos on the MK4 golf. All the bolts rust solid and the heads round out. Luckily this mk6 wasn’t too old at the time.
@@IAMASPANNER Hola, buen video! Le escribo desde Santander, mientras intento desmontar defensa delantera, y sacar alternador de mi 1.6 tdi de 105cv. Me llama la atención los óxidos que se aprecian en el Golf de su hermana. Gracias por su trabajo.
Wow, so the electrics just heal naturally.
Can't hear you 🥺🤣
Do you need to take the bumper off ?
