As a motorcyclist who loves country roads, I would personally like to thank JACK for putting his back into it and clearing the mud from the road. Whilst management was in the background gassing with the driver.!!!🤣 Nice xmas present for that driver, good lads!!!
Just wanted to leave a comment to say the last 2 years i have well and truly loved watching your videos and I'm honestly excited to see what you guys get upto in 2025, I'm hoping that 2025 will be a much better year all around. Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and here's to a Happy New Year and a hopefully amazing 2025
At the 2nd-line workshops in Germany it was quite routine to run a K60 or L60 to destruction in the engine run-up bay (by draining the governor). Normally this would be because No.2 top crankshaft bearings were gone/knocking (they had the weakest lubrication of all the journals). The reason for destroying them is that a new power pack would be released from war stock immediately, and the destroyed engine would be shipped back to a 3rd-line repair workshop. If we didn't destroy it, we would have wait donkey's years for a repair solution, and the tank would be classed as VOR (Vehicle Off Road), potentially putting the Unit's operational readiness below 90%. That is quite serious, as Whitehall/Parliament has to be informed that a military unit was not operationally ready for a Soviet attack! A big no-no during the Cold War. EDIT TO ADD: During 'quiet times' replacement engines would be available in the 'normal' supply chain, but during periods of heavy training use of tanks on exercise/manoeuvres during the mid-late 80's, spare engines would be depleted very quickly, and war stock would be used.
Well all that business of repelling the soviets was a waste anyway. Stalin Starmer has a quasi form of communism taking over the country as we speak and people are just sleep walking right into it. The way things are going the British army will be on its knees very soon.
@@rovcanada1 used to.play Rugby with some REME guys at 12 Armd Div workshops at Mercer Batracks Osnabruck who told stories of L60 destruction run ups as they said exactly the same thing. Oh the good old days eh.
I had to wonder how it would fare being fed methanol and nitrous. If you could keep it cool and correctly fuelled, I'd bet it'd make some serious numbers 😂
Fingers crossed the lorry driver gave you something as a thankyou for your kind recovery. Loving the channel as always and having a Landy will always mean there’s something to repair!! Would be interesting to see how the pto’s are done on it to run the winch!! Well done Ted!
brings back memories , working down the yard on vintage fairground rides and someone suddenly appears because they slid into the marshes, regular thing , so we went to recover them with one of our Scammells, usually got a few pints or lunch out of it , good fun though, all the best for the new year .
Happy New Year Joe, Taya, Jack, Adam, Seb and Ted! Thanks for keeping us entertained and teaching us lots about tanks and industrial equipment this year, I've thoroughly enjoyed every video! Here's to continued success of your business and channel in 2025!
Great end to the year. Helped a stranded truck driver. It’s been a great year for your channel. Hope it grows a lot more in 2025. Well done to all of you guys and dogs , Have yourselves a great new year. Looking forward to seeing you all in 2025. 👍👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤
Blinking heck - I know you talk about run-aways - good to see one in a controlled situation, - great channel, I’m no mechanic or engineer but really enjoy seeing the team working with massive engines -and vehicles.
Honestly, I'd just strip that engine for usable parts and ditch it. I've been watching along since Matt stuck the videos up of the recovery tank thingy, glad I found you guys, its been fun so far. Thanks to all of you for putting in the effort to film and edit, especially Ted, he makes everything run so smoothly. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all.
Bit of Mats off road recovery 👍🏻 Great as usual wishing you all a happy new year hope you had a great Christmas, looking forward to your adventures 👍🏻👍🏻
Hallo Mr Hewes! I love your Videos. I grow up in Berlin-Spandau, next to the britisch tank barracks. Wenn they left Berlin in 1994 i was really sad. Later i go into these barracks and " found" some nice signs for my garage. The best sign is a yellow one....Caution TANK Park 20Mph. I wish you much fun in 2025 wirh the next new old tanks. Don't stop restauration.
Well that was a anti climax, but the thought was there Have a good one for new Years Joe, Ted, Jack, and all the other boys girls, and assorted misfits that make these videos priceless
love watching your videos Mr Hewes....hope you had a Great Christmas (I enjoyed the Christmas lights on the Chieftain short)...Have a great New YEar...
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years! Love the fun and quite educational videos. Being a farmer myself and lover of tanks, mind you I don’t have any yet but hope too you guys are amazing
What a lucky guy got himself stuck. Walking up to a litlle cottage thinking maybe he has a leyland tractor to get me unstuck. The farmer/mr hewes replying wait a minute ill just get my Foden recovery vehicle and il be there in a minute😂🎉 Happy christmas and a happy new year🎉
I like videos like this with lots of different things going on. Onwards and upwards for 2025, and thanks for all the entertainment and interesting topics this year.
I'm following you guys for a couple of months now and watched back all off the older video's. I know it's a lot of work but still I wish there where more of them in a week 😊. Keep up the good work and have a good new year's eve! This goes for Ted as well! 😉
Please keep up your wonderful work guys. You are dual handedly saving our heritage and mending tank and engine stutf the rest of us (OK only me then) know how to do. Bravo. Happy New year and happy new woofs to Ted.
Happy Christmas all. Thank you for making 2024 a little bit more interesting. Thought for a second that Teddy got ginger hair dye for Christmas but am relived to see that was not the case. What a good doggy. Cheers
I was looking at your power clamps, and I thought, it makes mine look, well, a bit 'sissy' really....... Never judge someone by their power clamps. 😅 On another note, I one time had a friend with a jet (aircraft APU) ("would I like a demo") It all went well until half the town complained about the noise.. Such is life. Happy new year.
loved the "recovery" it was way nice of you not to charge him. Well done guys. BTW the video on the 2 US based Chieftians I saw on a FB site for M1 tanks that the market place add was mentioned and I told them all about your video and that they went to TX to the new owner. Good stuff you all put out. Have a great New Years Semper Fi
Great video. In my humble opinion, a true diesel runaway, does not occur until lubricant is actually fuelling combustion. A fuel system will rarely destroy an engine before seizure. Especially well built diesels. 👍🏴
This is my fave youtube channel watch every video till the end when Mr Hewes uploads its like a new episode of your favourite series has came out kepp up the good work
Entertainment as only engineers who work with this can relate coz we've had similar happening and having a laugh gets you through. All the best n keep it up. K
Good afternoon! I spent my entire Christmas and boxing day watching your content after accidentally clicking on the WSV video. I worked at WSV for a few years, and it is a big boys toys one stop shop 🤣 Absolutely fantastic and interesting projects! I hope you all had a good Christmas and I look forward to seeing what 2025 brings!
I like watching your channel. You're all a great bunch of guys doing exactly what makes you happy. You have a great collection. Loving your work pal great content 🙌
in the ( unlikely ) event that i ever own a tank .. i will absolutely go to town in decorating it for Christmas .... and the £800 pack unit covering Jack ( & a fair section of workshop ) in Oil & Water was priceless .. Happy New Year all
As I used to drive 43's, I hit this as soon as I saw the title... The K60 engine was always a solid one & we loved it but during training when I asked what situations the Emergency Fuel Cut-Off Switch or "Dead Man's Pedal" might be needed for, my instructor (also my mate at the unit) basically descrived what he thought a runaway engine might be like. That scared the bejesus out of me to be honest, since with a listed max speed of just 32.5 mph, the 43's not the fastest wagon on the circuit but I had absolutely no desire to see one go nuts with the revs that yours just went through. So seeing what happened here & hearing the explanation given, I was chuffed that (1) I paid good attention during that lesson & that more importantly (2) I never suffered from a runaway engine at any time, though I feel for those who have, especially when mobile at the time. Great demo. Thanks as always lads.
we did the same once in a German wood with an L60 that was 'weak' but refused to break enough for a pack change - I will never forget seeing everyone who had gathered on the back decks to watch all jumping off when they realised jus how likely it was the screaming engine was going to obliterate itself - pistons came out the side and shrapnel on top of the turret - very impressive!
i REALLY DO appriciate this video i mentioned this a couple of times in the comecnts and wondered why this happened. thanks for this much appriciated guys
Destructive Testing! Jack got lubed! Happy new year Joe and the crew!! Good luck with the additional shop.... hope there's more concrete about it and less slogging in the mud. Best regards from Dixie!

It was bad near me when they were getting the harvest in. It looked like they had been ploughing the roads from the amount of mud on them!
Coolbeens 😊
put ur back into it !
and jerk and twist!
We have thousands of the singing truck drivers here too. I wonder sometimes where they bought their licences .😊
Different country, precisely the same concern! 🏍️ 🤙🏻

Ted and the Foden in one vid thank you for the entertainment over the year.
A vigorous groin oiling was not the lubrication Jack was expecting...
I dunno 😅
Has he been told that oil causes bolock cancer 😢
And typically, his mum was not impressed...
Lubed for our enjoyment. Ewwwwwwww.

K60/L60 runaways, saw a few between 1988-2024!, L60 was always the scariest!
How old is Ted
@@EricBates-lx8dn OLD ENOUGH. THANK U FOR YA SERVICE. love ya :-)
I HAVE subscribed ... because whatever you're up to your neck in you are always smiling. Happy new year to you all.
Thanks for another amazing year of videos Mr Hewes and team!
🖤
Jack getting absolutely spaffed at by that K60 made me laugh more than it should have, poor guy
Thanks for the thoroughly entertaining year. All the best for 2025.
Hope you all had a perfect Christmas. Thanks so much for all the enjoyment during the year. Always brilliant to see the Foden out
A runaway diesel is no joke! This one did really well imo. Very well built engine.
I had to wonder how it would fare being fed methanol and nitrous.
If you could keep it cool and correctly fuelled, I'd bet it'd make some serious numbers 😂
Wow! shows you the strength of the engine with no rods or pistons coming out the side of the block! Happy New Year!
I'd suspect any military RR engines were massively over engineered, because this could actually happen in the field.....
Fingers crossed the lorry driver gave you something as a thankyou for your kind recovery. Loving the channel as always and having a Landy will always mean there’s something to repair!! Would be interesting to see how the pto’s are done on it to run the winch!! Well done Ted!
What a great video! Well done for helping the fella getting unstuck! All the best for 2025 to all of you and have a great break if you get one.

It broke !!!! 😂😂😂😂💀☠ Giving Jack an oily watery shower was 10/10 on the shits n giggles front !
This is one of the most interesting ones yet nice work and happy new year
Happy New Year to all the team! Thank you for what you do! 🎉
Nice to see luna has provided her experience in rebuilding the head and is Teds nominated deputy
Is her full name Luna Rover?
Glad to see that Ted stayed in charge throughout ( whilst watching from a safe distance)

Its cracking what you "young" lads, lassies and doggo's get up to. Keep doing it and keep safe, I reckon you might have a future in this malarky!

how lucky of that lorry driver to crash near your farm that has the Foden available
That guy ought to play the lottery.
It's a Christmas miracle, at least it was once he discovered the yard full of heavy plant equipment.

Wow! That was wild! Thank you for the warning. I will always make sure the pump isn't stuck on an old diesel before starting it.
