I'm just going to say it like it is. The courses that they play should be permanent courses not made up bullshit on a ball Golf course and try and actually bring challenge to them by coming to the Rockies and playing some legitimate mountain courses that just happen to be some of the best in the world
I really like park style courses, but finding a 30+ acre park to do a temporary 18 hole course in is difficult if you do not have enough parking + room for some vendors. Walla-Walla Washington has a really big cool looking city park with a small zoo inside that might work
Yeah good to see the pro tour has some competition, seems like they are ready for it bc of the new rules ago at playing events the same weekend as their events
20 meters is insane. 15m, which is pretty close to 50ft, seems like a solid rule change imo. I've also liked the suggestion that the circle can be a different distance for different divisions. MPO/tour only could byle 15m, normal divisions 10m, junior divisions could even be closer!
I think 65 ft Is a little deep would prefer to see something a little more in the middle like 45 ft seems a better distance personally. Also the DGPT is a shit show. Late payouts, poor coverage and the same courses every year. I think a lot of people are gonna welcome competition and giving the pros a chance to make more money isn’t a bad thing either. Also would love a more non golf approach to coverage ya know.
A floor & a bathroom...I've worked on that policy before. I'm excited for the second pro tour and hope that a number of the pros are able to appear in both.
Unique putting circle sizes on individual holes is a cool idea, provided they're marked clearly. I'm not trying to figure out different circle sizes on every hole.
Can't wait to discuss this with Luke when he's in town for the TDU. FYI: a "non-compete" clause in any contract is essentially worthless and unenforceable unless the signer is paid a non-trivial sum to sign it. Without a big up-front benefit to the signer, practically all judges will dismiss any such civil case with prejudice, and award all legal costs to the signer. The 20-metre proposed rule change doesn't address the issue. Just moves it 10-metres further back, and so it is not a solution to any issue I am aware of. Claiming that Pros and discs are better after 50 years has zero validity. The same is true of basket ball, and they haven't raised the hoop, or made it smaller, or moved the free-throw line further back. So what if Pros almost never miss a 7-metre putt? Or a 10-metre? It still happens. I have watched Simon Lizotte miss a 1 metre putt! Sadly, putting in disc golf can NEVER be as exciting as in ball golf, because the disc is only in the air for a very short period - far too short for anticipation in the crowed to build to crazy levels like it can in ball golf, when it can be several seconds from the time the ball is hit, until it drops or misses. In disc golf, the only time such tension can build is when a disc starts to roll after touching down. I always point to disc golf as being an amazing sport, due to its self-refereed nature. The only change I would make to the PDGA rules is that any card being officially filmed should have a dedicated PDGA Rules Official observing the card, enforcing the rules the players do not enforce themselves. That would prevent any bad feelings between players - which is the major reason pros don't properly enforce the rules. I strongly resist any attempt to change the rules of the game, because for 98% of all disc golfers, disc golf is now, and always will be a game, and not a sport. And it is absolutely essential the game and the sport operate with the exact same rules.
I feel like allowing stepping inside c2 would be ok provided you maintain 1 point of contact BEHIND the lie until the disc comes to rest (unless not moving would interfere with the disc [during a rollaway])
DGPT seems to have some financial woes. GoThrow is stepping in to do one of two things: force DGPT to improve their payouts, timely-ness, and demonstrate their overall benefit to the players. *OR* GoThrow is firing shots across the bow that they are coming to win the players, win the fans, and ultimately win the ‘official PDGA’ moniker. I do miss the days when my feed was filled with rounds of cards to watch instead of filled with news sources. I think pdga should make players declare jump putts before hand to the card. Then allow them to step back a couple feet so their release point is no further than their marker. That’s my 2 cents 🤷🏽♂️
Asking for a friend....Does anyone know if it's just step putts or are jump putts included in that too? I think it would be pretty obvious that you can't do that either but I've seen crazier things happen.
@natesquaggles9332 Something simple like this would work, but you have to include any follow through. So the throw and follow through must stay behind the lie. You could then jump, step, fall forward, step forward, whatever as long as forward momentum stops at or behind the lie or on the tee pad.
@leopard3131 exactly. Yeah it would change some smaller rules , but as long as you stop behind the lie/tee pad, you are good. Kinda unsafe to run past the pad anyways and people manage run ups on lies all the time.
I think it will be similar to the PGA and live tour where players will play the tournaments for go throw and then play the majors on Discgolf pro to her because the majors are not really part of the Discgolf pro tour. They are PDGA run event events.
If the pro tour wants to keep up they need to make there own rules. The Pros should be graded on a different scale than the ams. Also the PDGA making rules for pros that affect the weekend warriors makes no sense. DGPT needs its own set of rules for sure. I also think we should protest the PDGA if they don’t allow 16 at the beast to be a buncr rule at worlds, We’re the only people that can hit them were it hurts by not renewing this year.
Yes, they absolutely need to change the rules around foot faults. Players at all levels don’t call foot faults. Not just the pros. And not just about step putts. Wherever they allow step putting they should change the rule So it doesn’t read that you would need a slow motion camera to be able to tell whether or not the putt was legal. So players can easily see faults. How many times do I see somebody’s mini move while throwing from the fairway? Was the Disc released before or after? The rules are poorly written, asking us to police things we couldn’t possibly see for sure. And nobody’s making those calls. I am for increasing the circle, but it doesn’t really address the problem. Because jumping and then releasing the disc outside of the circle, as long as it’s a quick continuous motion is being allowed. At all levels.
I agree 100% , there are 2 problems: 1. It is impossible to determine if a small part of a players foot is or is not in the lie at the time of release from 5 ft away. Also, does it really matter if this rule is violated by an inch? Do we want camera coverage of where a players foot was or insant replays like other professional sports? Either relax the rule or better mark the area with a loop of fluorescent string, or both. 2. The other problem is the lack of officials. Asking players to enforce the rules is a bad look but if the players are not enforcing the rules than they have no right to complain about the lack of enforcement. If the players are not enforcing the rules, and there are no officials to enforce the rules, then the rules are meaningless and should be eliminated or changed.
@@leopard3131 thank you. I hope they don’t write rules that ever include cameras or referees even if it becomes cost-effective. I’d like to play the same way the pros do. And i’d like to officiate the same way. You also bring up a great point about having a bigger place mark to throw from. In my amateur divisions, it seems like every other other throw in the fairway a player is missing the mark. Maybe just by a few inches. But mostly it’s just in the hard thrown fairway shots. Usually when they’re behind a tree or in a thick area, they’ll put their foot on their mark and try to reach out and around with a standstill. So the way everybody refs, we ignore the open shots in the fairway where the foot fault is small and there was now advantage to the player. But make sure their foot is secured to the ground when they’re behind a tree. The rules could be easily written where if somebody has an advantage by throwing from the side of his/her mark.
Can you imagine if the PGA tour announced that after a putt, you must keep your putter as still as possible for 3 seconds after the ball goes in? That’s how ridiculous this sounds to me.
