Otto literally lived long enough to become a villian, he no longer cares if the world is against him, he has an objective, and it is to give Kallen happiness even if he has to lose everything. If he can't be with Kallen, might as well atleast let her be the one to live. All for her.
Otto was already a villain, even before Kallen died in the past. He was the shadow to Kallen's light and was fine with that, so long as she was there to shine, even if it wasn't on him.

His life for Kallens'. His legacy would soon be over. A timeline sprouts anew on the other side (As per the scenes in the MV).* "Everyone has their own desire leading to the ultimate" *- He's now heading towards his ultimate goal. The climax of his life. One he has desired for 500 years. He also believes that the "heroes" (Kiana/Durandal) and everyone else would one day reach their ultimate goal as well (as seen from his farewell ghostly speech to them in-game).* "Life is too long to end at a grave" *- Scenes reflecting all the actions and sins of his past. He personally accepted that some of his actions are irredeemable and hopes his sins and ways of the past would be forgotten and cleansed by Theresa's goodwill and leadership eventually. Scene ends with Otto shutting his eyes post-reflection of sins, signifying acceptance of his lonesome ending.* "Just a drop of water suffices" *- Just wishes to spend just another moment with Kallen once more. Wishes to change the fate of Kallen Kaslana, even if it is just another distant timeline where he is no longer there.* "Still I wish to embrace the world with my thoughts" *- Otto Apocalypse, the "Scientist" that was understood and approved by Kallen. The recognition then led him to strive to become the greatest scientist to assist Kallen and eventually led humanity against Honkai. Over the course of time, the methods slowly regressed and starts to leave a bitter taste.* "A eulogy" *- Despite all the sins, no one can deny that Otto Apocalypse has left a legacy worthy of praise in several aspects. Without Otto, Humanity may not stand against Honkai as it is now. There would be no Kiana. Valkyries would not be as it is today.* "Time to leave where I have stood so long" *- 500+ years of legacy and humanity's progress.* "Letting you go recover traces overlapped" *- I leave the rest to you (to Theresa in present, and to Kallen in the new timeline).* "Ends, then Begins". *- My story ends here. Your story starts here.*
@@krack-a-lacker I understand that you hate Otto and he fully deserves it, but the comment is absolutely right, his arc was one of the best in the game, and gets even better the more you understand his background and all that happened. I won't ask you to appreciate it, because that's what you think, but let others do.
I'm a little confused though. So he sacrificed the current timeline to create a new one. This is why they talk about him being "selfish". Does that mean the main cast or at least the side characters not in kolosten are literally gone?!
@@kinggecko503 I think anyone not in Kolosten will be gone/different. We'll have to see in the upcoming chapters. I'm really curious to see how this goes.
Summary of this Animation: Otto created a new branch in the imaginary where Kallen did not die, and thus giving rise to many more branches(Each representing a possible future) where she's alive. He did so in exchange for his own life. Creating another Future/Timeline from the Past... Declaring that he was sacrificing the world outside Kolosten was just to have Dudu and Kiana be motivated enough to kill him. In the end, he sacrificed himself rather than the world to create another world where Kallen didn't die.

hard to say Otto is a real villain. Even he killed many people, he saved more than he killed. Although his ultimate goal was to resurrect Kallen, he still saved many more people in the process. He even killed a Herrscher by relying on the Tree of Imaginary Numbers.
I find it poetic, how Otto's final moments were utilizing the full power of Judgment of Shamash, a tool he always hated with a passion because of the Kaslana oath to use it to sacrifice themselves, a fate destined for Kallen that he had always fought against with his every breath, and used it to save her and break that cycle of tragedy.

You should add a "so long as the villain is not affecting me" at the end of your deep meaning sentence. If you had a daughter, and someone kidnapped and killed her, to harvest her organs and save their own kids in desperate need of a life-saving transplant, I seriously doubt you'd understand it.
This was the story of a very sad, sad old man going against the entire world to change something that's impossible. To others he might look like a SIMP trying to revive a loved one. But I see a man atoning for letting a girl he cared about die in front of him. He was not a good person or worthy of forgiveness. But he is worthy of respect of his determination.
A loved one who died because of his attempt to save her. An action with a fatal consequence that he couldn't fix and for 500 years he never forgot his objective until he made it possible.
Singer Ayunga When Ayunga was 3 years old, his father died of a heart attack, leaving behind a tape recorder, which Ayunga listened to for 5 years, learning all of Tengger's songs. When Ayunga was seven years old, his mother left him because of stomach cancer. In desperation, relatives sent him to the local art school. After the death of his parents, Ayunga's elder brother brought him up. For the sake of his musical dreams, Ayunga wanted to give up his stable job and go to Beijing, which was opposed by many people. Instead of reprimanding him, his stern older brother silently took out a loan of 500 yuan and slipped it into his hands. After coming to Beijing, Ayunga worked in a restaurant to earn tuition fees, and he remitted half of his monthly salary of 2,000 yuan to his brother, who kept the money for him. Later, his brother passed away due to illness.

Ironic how the villain and ended up having the most "shonen protagonist moment" in the whole dang story. There's many heroic, emotional cinematic on the whole story, and yet, this one still feels different than any others. This one is not about the power of friendship, not to protect the world, but saving only one person that you truly loved. In many stories out there, some heroes tend to give them all to save everyone and protect the world. In few stories, however, they're willing to chose between the world, or whether they abandon the world for someone else. This guy bear this burden for hundreds of years and stay determined to the end, willing to play the role as a villain, and okay to be hated by the whole world, to the point that he's throwing away his life, the one and only person that he love. There's no denying that what he did was unforgivable, but even though he's so despicable, we couldn't help but to feel bad after seeing his struggle, and how far he's willing to sacrifice himself for others. Rest in peace, Otto Apocalypse. There's no other villain like you, and doubt that we'll see another. Your dedication is the most impressive, and yet your crime was the most depraved. Out of everyone in the whole series, you're the one that I hate the most, and the one that I respect the most.
@@akidawatatsuya I would put Kevin and Otto in the same level. They're both willing to sacrifice everything for their goals. It's just that, they have 2 very different goals. One would sacrifice everything to defeat the Honkai, one would sacrifice everything to "save" one life.
"he who has walked for centuries" "he who has lost an irreplaceable friend" "he who would do anything to achieve his goal even by becoming a villain" "he who fought for his own selfish ideal" "he who then revive his cherished friend by sacrificing his life" Otto Apocalypse

This song could be in Mandarin (which I don't understand one bit) or Japanese (which I understand some) and I'd still shed a tear for this. The singer's voice is just so good, and suits Otto's lament perfectly. Saying this here because most of the top comments here are about Otto as a character, while the HoYoMix UA-cam video has its comments off.
For me this ending is way deeper than Himeko’s sacrifice or what Kiana’s been through. 500 years of constant struggle and sheer fucking will to accomplish a single goal for a girl who saved his life in a way we can’t completely understand. When Otto finally completed his goal, I wasn’t sad nor was I depressed. I felt so many complex emotions at once that in the end, I felt empty and maybe a bit of “I’m proud of you.” Kiana’s struggle hits pretty hard. Himeko’s death hits the heart. But Otto’s death hits the soul.
Regression is such a perfect title for this song. After all of this is done, miHoYo, I just want to see a world where everybody lives happily. Oh wait, that's Cooking with Valkyries.
True. The moment I realized they had the same character motivation was at the end. I realized that Otto is what Mei could have become if her love for Kiana surpassed her moral compass.
Not a Honkai Player correct me if I'm wrong, But at least He died without regrets + Mission Accomplish, Which is saving his best friend (I won't consider them both as lovers because they didn't start a relationship due to conflict and etc, Doesn't matter since both see each other as valuable)
@@MrTigracho You could also tag it to previous age Doctor Mei who was willing to do whatever it took to win against the Honkai. She was well on her way to walking the same path as Otto but died from her illness before having the chance to do so.
I love how the saying "Fight for all that's beautiful in the world" still applies to Otto's actions. Because the only thing that was beautiful in the world in his eyes, was Kallen Kaslana.
Well funny enough Otto is probably has influenced in this Motto too. It was started with Ragna, Ragna taught Rita, Durandal and Himeko then Himeko taught that in St.Freya, Kiana then Learned it and spread it to everyone. And guess who taught Ragna? Yeah the legend Otto Himself. That's why in the end of Chapter 28 Durandal said "I believe that you still have faith to what you have taught us"
@@moores4415 He himself admitted that he believes in human's feelings. He believes that they will create miracles. However, for his one and only goal, all those can be irrelevant. Or worse, be used to complete his goal.
A funny thing is that Kallen doesn't nor ever did love him back that way yet Otto wasted 500 years trying to revive her, a well written fool is still a fool nonetheless.
What captivates me most about Honkai is how there is a protagonist, but this doesn't mean they're the main character. Kiana is the protagonist, but every chapter focuses on differents characters, different poins of views, and new stories.
And nothing shows that more than the most recent Chapters, with old characters being their own Main Characters, and soon a whole new cast of characters becoming the new main cast. And it just feels right for this game
This, everyone, is the song a truly broken man. Who only wanted a better outcome for the one he truly admired. Who did everything to make his wish come true. Even if it meant being everyone's enemy, being the villain of all. His determination is worthy of respect. Otto, I hope that you are truly at rest. Your wish has been granted.
@@supaidamanyuyusimp7156 That one I agree. He's a monster in the eyes of many, who have killed and brought sufferings to people who don't deserve it (Cecilia, Himeko, Welt Joyce, etc.), but he becomes one because he has a purpose, a noble goal to save someone he loves. That's why he is one of the best villain ever written, because while his villainy is irredeemable, we can truly understand and respect him.
The fact that there is no longer guarantee that he will be with kallen again, he still pressed forward all for kallen to be happy again. He was so willing to give it his all.
Just noticed how the clock in the video kept moving when kallen was alive and stopped when she died meaning that otto's time was stuck on that day until he finally fulfilled his plan and then the clock turned backwards as he made the new branch in the past as if he turned back time.

He is the antagonist, yet I feel like he is a protagonist. He is portrayed as the bad man, yet seems like a hero of his own story. Seeing this makes me realize what Himeko said. If we want to, we can change this story the way we wanted it be. And that's what Otto has been doing. He can't accept it, so he will change it, no matter what. Praise be... Salute to the man. Been playing Honkai since pre-registration... I've always hated Otto of what he had done to everyone, from generations and onwards which was ruined by his ruthlessness and selfishness... I didn't understand why he would go such length to bring back someone which he had loved a long time ago, back to life so desperately... But now, I've finally understood, the wraith which burns within him that lasted so long, relentlessly trying to change, to turn back what he had done... To save the holy maiden, that is willing to sacrifice herself for the people which repaid her with shackles and chains. Otto didn't just want to save her, he wanted to give himself a chance to change the past, give his life to someone worthy, to someone which he'd treasured more than everything else in this world. This man would go such length to rewind what had happened, hurting innocent people and so on, just to make sure he would succeed. But all there is in this world, he never gave up, he strived and kept on pushing into something so diming, all for this so called... "love". Even which he knew, he won't be with her... and she might forget who had saved her, whom that someone that loved her deeply for the past hundreds to thousands of years, but giving the light to her is something that's worth more than the world... Otto showed not just dedication, he showed us all what true love means, something you can't taste, you can't express... it's something that we feel, not with our brain or senses, but with our heart. Respect to you Otto, I might've hated you before. But you've made me realized of what Everlasting Flame looks like, a Final Lesson which had taught him that love stands above all else, a Starfall that lead him to believe... Meteoric Salvations, full of regrets and griefs. Everything he had done... is to give Kallen Kaslana a future which she could save everyone, to redeem her name as a Kaslana, a maiden that fights and protect all there is beautiful in this world...

This song honestly reaches to the core. The lyrics are stunning and meaningful, a very emotional one in relation towards time. Kudos to the singer whose voice is amazing!
@@JustEverton I'll say the difference in view and morals. Once Kallen died, humanity is dead along with himself. He sees it as savages so whatever he did, it means nothing. It's like squashing/experimenting on animals made for it but in this case it's humans. At the same time, he couldn't deny the beauty of it even after Kallen's death. The things learned by Bianka was taught by Ragna (she also taught Himeko, Himeko-Kiana) which she learned from Otto hence Durandal's line of "I still think you have faith in us/in what you said" or something along these lines. Otto is so complex with a pretty simple wish of having Kallen live. If he had his way of an obedient VA and squashed WS, he would have been the hero who walked a thorny path.

Honestly, Even if I didn't like Otto, I can't really say that I hated him, because at some point I can understand why he did everything he did. He just wanted to bring back his True Love, and actually I can say that I would do the same, but honestly who wouldn't try at least to try to bring back a loved one who's gone if it's within their possibilities? Of course it all depends on how you handle the pain. In this case Otto lived 500 years with the pain and sorrow of having lost to Kallen, he kept feeding this obsession through the years and as a Result he caused pain and suffering to others, his methods were merciless and cold, but he never forgot why he did everything. Finally he put Kallen before himself and that's shown with the final sacrifice on his plan, all that he wanted was to give Kallen happiness and a better future. He did Good and He did Bad things, and In My eyes he's the Best definition of Tragic Villain and he got all of my Respect.

"You die as the Hero or live long enough to see yourself become the Villan" However, Otto did things differently. He knew he was one Villan, so he made sure to open the door for two Heroes instead. One, where Theresa inherits the world & Otto's legacy to begin leading humanity back on track. Two, where originally Otto lived & Kallen died, now Kallen is the one who lives to be the pillar humanity requires to progress and evolve.
Otto I'm following your path now to create new possibility where i can see my beloved firefly alive and smile once again - Caelus Apocalypse the 2nd regression.
I get why people mention Firefly, but also wanna point out that Otto spent years with Kallen and views her as his world. There's a deep history of regrets there where as much as Firefly's fate hits, Caelus didn't have that deep rooted history with her. So for this one... Otto still has way more into it that Caelus... Including why he did the things he did in all those years. Caelus and Stelle are still protags. Meanwhile all the things stacked together makes Otto a very well written villain.
Most of them are just kidding, but ngl those ppl who said" Caelus Is becoming Otto!" or something like " We going to the imaginary tree with Firefly!!" annoys me
Saw Neil L's comment and wanted to add to it: Ayanga's name means "lightning strikes and thunder rumbles". First time I've seen Ayanga share his story was on the stage a tv show in 2014. It was mentioned by his teammates. When the entire audience and the presenters were weeping for him, he was the only one who didn't cry, because per his words "all my tears have already dried". Everytime I've seen him onscreen, he's always bright and positive, being the reliable person, the shoulder you can lean on. I don't think it's polite to "feel sorry" for someone who actively want to make their life better and bring other people happiness, so all I can say is "Thank you, Ayanga".

Listening to this song, I feel like whoever it is really put there soul into this. I love it and it stands as one of my top 10 songs ever. Can feel the emotions through his voice.
I love the fact that this song was made for only him and shows the struggle he's been through just to achieve his goal which is to save Kallen. I like how they made a video like this so the non-haters for Otto to speak up about their emotions and think of him; just like me. Otto Apocalypse did something the impossible. This music video is the proof that Otto is also a human being who desire to save his loved one. For more than 500 years he suffered and struggles to reach the end of the line of his line, and it was a feast because he did create another branch of Imaginary Tree where Kallen is alive. If I were in his position, I would lost all my courage to do this kind of thing long time ago. The title of the song truly fits Otto, I feel like they intentionally made this to show that villain are not evil beings but also a human who desire something just like other people. I am glad I manage to understand Otto and why he did those things. Tenacity, dedication, strong mentality, and courage that he has must be respected and I truly acknowledge his existence to the story.
I agree with everything you said here except the bit about “Otto Apocalypse Non-Haters”…I cannot believe there are people who love Otto without feeling a little bit of hate for the bad things he has done. He is a very complex character that can make you feel both.

@@snowynight2929 I would have argued he is more of an “Anti-Hero”, but turns out that’s not entirely accurate. If he was made the main character of HI3rd in the beginning, he would definitely fit the the description of an Antihero…but ‘cause he is not the main character and was established in the game as an Antagonist, he is what you’d call an “Anti-Villain”. Antivillains are characters with Heroic Goals & Virtues, but are fundamentally the Villain. Their desired goals are mostly good, but their means of getting there range from evil to undesirable. (And as an alternative, their goals can be selfish and/or have long-term effects they don't care about.) Otto happens to fit the term very well, considering everything he has done.
"Every night brings a dream but the day, relentlessly, keeps me awake". This line hits really hard if you're standing in the shoes of Otto Apocalypse. At least, that's what I think.
What's crazy is the use of Judgment of Shamash not just by Otto but all the users of the Judgment of Shamash. Despite Otto's use of the divine key being unique, the Judgment of Shamash truly brings out the symbolism it shows. It's a powerful divine key that eats away at the user of the divine key but gives the user an immense amount of power. Through Otto's experience with Kallen, he has been granted a part of the Kaslana blood despite not being married and what not with Kallen. What gave him the Kaslana blood is how he stops at nothing for a single goal and it is about one person like how the Kaslana house live for the people. Otto's "people" would be Kallen. The power of the Judgment of Shamash is not the weapon itself, but how it infuses the user with an abstract power through their hard willpower and great dedication towards their goal and it truly shows throughout the Kaslana house in their uses of the divine key. The weapon is powerful not by the weapon itself being powerful, but how it represents one's willpower.
"They decided who you are, a villain or a hero just because the choice you made it's good for you and bad for them, I won't say i'm sorry because you made your choice, because just like you i won't be here without my own choice too" RIP Otto
If you just watched the "Thus Spoke Apocalypse" cinematic and just listened to this song, you'd think Otto was the protag of whatever series it was from. And if you're a Honkai player, you're still mad that they made you root for Otto
Wait I've just noticed the parallel between Mei and Kiana, and Otto and Kallen's relationship. Kiana and Kallen befriending an outcast... Kiana and Kallen sacrificing themselves for a cause.... Mei and Otto joining the dark side for the persons they love.
When you realize that since the beginning of the game we were really playing Otto's Arc all this time 🗿
Damn that's kinda true
It was actually Otto Impact all along...
We weren’t playing Honkai Impact. It’s Otto Impact
Next ark will be KeBin ark
@@krujka it is Kallen's arc I believe.
Otto literally lived long enough to become a villian, he no longer cares if the world is against him, he has an objective, and it is to give Kallen happiness even if he has to lose everything. If he can't be with Kallen, might as well atleast let her be the one to live. All for her.
Honestly even after all the stuff he’s done
When he finally achieved his goal after so long
I couldn’t help but feel glad for him
Otto was already a villain, even before Kallen died in the past. He was the shadow to Kallen's light and was fine with that, so long as she was there to shine, even if it wasn't on him.

*- He is experiencing living hell day by day. Though there is still one meaningful goal and dream to cherish in life (Kallen).*

"Everyone has their own desire leading to the ultimate"
*- He's now heading towards his ultimate goal. The climax of his life. One he has desired for 500 years. He also believes that the "heroes" (Kiana/Durandal) and everyone else would one day reach their ultimate goal as well (as seen from his farewell ghostly speech to them in-game).*
"Life is too long to end at a grave"
*- Scenes reflecting all the actions and sins of his past. He personally accepted that some of his actions are irredeemable and hopes his sins and ways of the past would be forgotten and cleansed by Theresa's goodwill and leadership eventually. Scene ends with Otto shutting his eyes post-reflection of sins, signifying acceptance of his lonesome ending.*
"Just a drop of water suffices"
*- Just wishes to spend just another moment with Kallen once more. Wishes to change the fate of Kallen Kaslana, even if it is just another distant timeline where he is no longer there.*
"Still I wish to embrace the world with my thoughts"
*- Otto Apocalypse, the "Scientist" that was understood and approved by Kallen. The recognition then led him to strive to become the greatest scientist to assist Kallen and eventually led humanity against Honkai. Over the course of time, the methods slowly regressed and starts to leave a bitter taste.*
"A eulogy"
*- Despite all the sins, no one can deny that Otto Apocalypse has left a legacy worthy of praise in several aspects. Without Otto, Humanity may not stand against Honkai as it is now. There would be no Kiana. Valkyries would not be as it is today.*
"Time to leave where I have stood so long"
*- 500+ years of legacy and humanity's progress.*
"Letting you go recover traces overlapped"
*- I leave the rest to you (to Theresa in present, and to Kallen in the new timeline).*

Sorry btw :)
Somewhere in Penacony, Welt felt a burden leave his back.

Many people say that he did all this just because he simps for kallen , but its not so simple guys , he felt responsible for her death and many more aspects led him to what he is today , what a great villain
He did all this for his obsession, that was his only goal.
@@JustEverton No. He does cared and loved Kallen from the bottom of his heart and a true follower to Kallen's principle of life.
You may slam this as obsession but it's more than that. If anything, he is desperate to fix things right by sacrificing everything on his own.

Omg ty for pointing this out
Been playing Honkai since pre-registration...
Thank you for your beautiful comment

Regression Lyrics - Ayanga & HOYO-MIX
Too much of the past for one to memorize
Too many words remained for one to read through the lines
The ebb and flow of the crowd floods the world and paradise
Along the path of time
Every night brings a dream but the day, relentlessly, keeps me awake
All the rest will be torn up whenever a choise is made
Every living soul in the fray striving for their own safe place
Life is too long to end at a grave
Just a drop of water suffices
Encompassed and swallowed through space by the universe
Back to the source
Gone are those years living for a reason
Here it comes the moment of the scene of lost and found
Personas played out on the stage
Will return to the self when there’s a curtain call
Every night brings a dream but the day, relentlessly, keeps me awake
All the rest will be torn up whenever a choise is made
Everyone has their own desire leading to the ultimate
Life is too long to end at a grave
Just a drop of water suffices
Still I wish to embrace the world with my thoughts
A eulogy
Time to leave where I have stood so long
Letting you go recover traces overlapped
Ends, then begins…

@@JustEverton
I'll say the difference in view and morals.
And hate them.
@@JustEvertonGet someone you'll love for the rest of eternity and be with them for over a year. You'll know how much one can agree with Otto and what he did for his love. It's just beautiful.
Villains always has beautiful story. Either it beautifully twisted or beautifully soak in blood, it always beautiful to see and where the end brought them
Honestly, Even if I didn't like Otto, I can't really say that I hated him, because at some point I can understand why he did everything he did.
Yeah, I couldn't bring myself to really despise him either...
He truly is a well-written human character.
This made me cry
I hate Otto, by the way.
"Ends, then begins."
* *sees kallen and otto asleep while holding hands* *

just realize now
Elysian realms Arc it's reversed in Otto Arc
Regression: "Ends, then begins"
the last Otto journey, then begin journey valkyrie who raised by Otto (Kiana Herrscher, Dudu S rank valk, and Theresa Overseer)
TruE: "Begin To, then ending with Elysia"
the first fights Honkai, then the last fights Previous Era soldier with Elysia (Flamechaser)
"Finality, then Origin."
Then you realize Kallen's a lesbian in loving relationship with someone else, and doesn't actually want to hold his hand or star in a romantic vid with him...

"You die as the Hero or live long enough to see yourself become the Villan"
However, Otto did things differently.

This song is truly definitely absolutely a masterpiece!!
Doesn't matter how long what matter's you understand at "That" Moment 😆😆😆

Absolute cinema indeed
Otto's actions go further than just for love. Otto saw Kallen as his hero.
Saw Neil L's comment and wanted to add to it:
Ayanga's name means "lightning strikes and thunder rumbles".
😭

Yea totally agree !
