Fun facts about this time period. Japan was completely closed off to the rest of the world. They were isolationists and to be a foreigner on their land was punishable by death. Additionally, all guns had been confiscated and removed from circulation, which is why that flesh trader’s gun in the first episode was such an unusual thing. Honor was SUPER important. There are hundreds of tales of samurai going on quests and defeating foes just for the sake of their honor. So Taigen’s obsession is understandable in the culture of the time. Roads were heavily enforced and restricted. Travel between towns required official passes and only men were allowed to hold those passes. Which is why the woman unable to get into the city in the first episode was so sad, because her husband had died. Rice farming produced a lot of wealthy lords. These weren’t the typical kings and queens that we know in Europe or elsewhere. A lot of them began as farmers and got wealthy from trade and commerce. So unlike in Europe where kings and queens were seen as descendants of god and passed down their status through their bloodline, in Japan the wealthy were more common folk who obtained wealth. The lower level lords weren’t seen as deities, which is the type of lord Akemi belongs to. The role of women was… very restrictive, as you’ll see. They were seen as property and not as people by most of society. Conversely, sex working was legal, and as a result a lot of women found freedom in sec work. There are stories of sex workers being so bold and forceful that they would literally forcefully pull men off the streets just to get work. You can see that in the way the sex workers treated Mizu when she arrives in the city in the first episode. I find this time period of Japan to be so fascinating!
I really like how they portray Mizu's skills as a fighter. She is very, very good, but not for no reason. They show us her training since she was a child. They show us her doing that crazy handstand and then cutting a tree in half before she does it in the cliffside fight. If they didn't show us any of that and just showed her doing crazy stuff in battle it wouldn't feel as satisfying imo. She also gets hurt...a lot. She's not invincible and is basically always healing from some wound lol. The hate that burns within her allows her to overcome some pretty grievous injuries.
@@Pandamonium626 I think of Mizu as a cross between a monk and a marine. She began life with two major disadvantages. But with a sharp mind and focus, a strong body, and an economy of action, she became an unparalleled instrument of retribution. From her eye-of-the-storm calm she unleashed a life altering typhoon that set lives around her on unexpected paths.
On rewatch of today's reaction I was reminded of the Mizu drop off the cliff which mirrored Vi dropping into the undercity. Your reaction perfectly reflected Caitlyn's as the startled, gasping reaction of a baby.
The way this show uses violence as a story telling mechanism is so beautifully done. As Mizu fights its never just violence for the sake of it, there is always a conflict surrounding its use, with every fight we (the viewers) learn something new. Even when its depictions of violence are gory and visceral, it is the point of it to display what pain it causes, not just against her enemies but also herself, to show how violence can not exist without its heavy cost. It is a theme of duality that is shared with Arcane and is probably why I love it, and it makes me happy that you are watching it.
As a non english speaker every new video on this channel is a discovery of new english words/slang, it's so fun 😂 As for now my favourite has to be "dingleberries" or "squeamish"
It's great to see you admiring the incredible landscapes and backgrounds in the show since that's also something I was in awe of. In line with the time period, clothing and hairstyles were very specific to each gender, so nobody would have assumed Mizu to be a girl, even the children bullies. Also, hairstyles and decorative items in hair can denote status and wealth in a very hierarchical society, so losing that ponytail is actually a huge blow to Taigen, hence why he said he probably can't marry Akemi now, would rather die, and is so hell bent on restoring his honor. Fun fact: mizu = water, mizu iro = blue, literally "the color of water" so I'm guessing the name was chosen to include the inference to the color as well
Ahh I’m late to this but happy to see this 2nd ep out…. Subscribed now so I don’t miss one…. Discovered you after the Line reaction, I need to go back and watch your arcane reactions but stoked your doing this & loving it so much

This is like the closest ive gotten to re-experiencing it for the first time and its THRILLINGGGGGGG i am sooooo impatient for u to get to the later episodes!!!!!!!!! Aaaaaahhh!!!! I'm so exciteddddd!!!!!!!!!! MIZUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!
That last fight scene was definitely my favourite part of the episode, really intense and beautifully animated! Especially that shot near the end of Mizu vs the Four Fangs leader at the end, with the waves crashing and the sun just above the horizon ❤
Keeping score: Twonk, piss biscuit, drum kit/Paul McCartney. The Claudie lingo is evolving gloriously. Also damn... that's episode 2? So much has been happening and we even got another big awesome fight. I can't wait to pre-watch episode 3 right now.
You never disappoint! I applaud the Sword thought. The pursuit, and the exhibition on your wall, is exactly what's been cooking this whole time. I love Ringo. The delusional, good-hearted, well-intentioned fellow who survives by humor is where I identify. Favorite line in this episode: Revenge boat! I said it in the same manner as he was speaking. I second the ATLA recommendation, but I say LoK is a must afterward. Different, but great, animation style, and storytelling, while enriching my personal story archive. Swordfather traces his lineage back to Uncle Iroh, and I think that should be acknowledged. Lastly, as we see Caitlyn in Mizu, there is a recent animated movie named NIMONA that I recommend that has the VI essence. It could almost be a Vi/Jayce adventure, of sorts.
Hi Claudie!❤ I was one of the persons who recommend Blue Eye Samurai and I'm so glad you're enjoying it. I dont know if you want any more suggestions for animated shows but I think you'd enjoy Avatar the Last Airbender. Ciao
ATLA would be great, yep. Kinda slow at first - it's a kids show that grows up as it goes. When I first saw it I couldn't see what the fuss was about but covid left me with all day free and I gave it a chance until finally....season 1 episode 12, we all know the one. After that, totally sold. ATLA also has one of the greatest character arcs in all of fiction and one of the greatest mentor figures and we know Claudie likes those.
The level of awe you have for this show is just beautiful. The way you stop to appreciate it in comparison to Arcane, detailing the different but equally impressive qualities that make it great, is why I love watching your reactions.
You called and w8 for it, the sword that is broken; btw an idea idk if you already watched and you consider reacting to movies too, but one of the best movies ever about two women is "Portrait of a Lady on Fire". )
This is great.... I went from Arcane re-watch to Claudie Reacts wait and watch.... And there is new content every day.... "What has she done to us"... Someone said it before but I'll say it again, it is like watching a show with your best friend. Don't even have to pretend it is the first time... it is! 😀
Ringo is really the heart of the show and sadly he doesn’t recognise, that he is already great at something ❤ Love that he is there because the show has already some really heavy stuff and more is coming.
4:13 - I can totally relate to this lol! and it's like this in every episode! 😂 Oh bdw the background color and the symbol in the bottom right corner changes every episode, in case you haven't noticed yet! 😊
Claudie you are very good to read between lines always but its so funny how you don’t realize some other things like hot water! It’s cute actually. And yes, Taigen is very dumb and he doesn’t imagine that Mizu is a woman wich is funny and interesting! I’m so glad you enjoying this even with all the blood baths it’s made your reaction even funnier!
You are so much better at connecting dots than me lmao, to me it came as a complete surprise when the four fangs leader turned out to be the guy from the flashbacks. I was just too happy to see Swordfather and young Mizu again I think 😅
My three takes from this episode: loved the sword making when the hot blade meets the water, the cliff fight and “the” one-hand stand is epic, and lastly, again, you were right 😂 about the broken sword guy!
The relationship between Mizu and the state of water is so important and poetic, hot cold, calm and waves, she hide, relief… what a name MIZU ! ( my cat has that name bc of her! ) also Claudie! Did you love already the Mizu theme?
Mizu is in my opinion a realy good written charakter - in her fightings scenes shes not the super duper samurai, but very intelligent in using her suroundings for her advantage..
Your channel has started out with some fantastic series! If i could recommend one, i would say "The Legend of Vox Machina". It is more classic fantasy, based on the D&D campaign by the folks at Critical Role. It is probably the only show out there where the characters are played by the same people who created them. It is a great story with great characters, good humor and hard hitting emotional moments😄
It's hard not to hate pretty much every male character in this series.Luckily Ringo is there 🤣 I would love to have him as a roommate ahah I can't wait to see the next episode ^^
Glad to see you if settled into the BlueEyeSamurai groove. I also really had a hard time getting into anything after Arcane - because everything kind of paled. B.E.S. isn't as consistently paced and plotted as Arcane Season One, but if anything it's more provocative thematically. Absolutely another show you can pause and reflect on the tiny details in animation as well. I've just started Frieren on Netflix, another show that deals with big mature themes, and if you haven't already checked it out, it might be somewhere to go after this.
Thank you for describing what you can’t show. 😊 I’m still prepping myself to watch the series but until then I’ll just hide here and let you take me for a ride, 😅
2:55 There are two concepts that I know of that represents demons in japanese culture: "Hannya" and "Oni". The Oni is a masculine demon that represents evil or the darker side of humanity whereas the Hannya is a female demon tha represents the tragedy of a woman consumed by dark emotions (jealousy, rage, etc). I believe the one that the hosemen are wearing is the Oni mask since they're men also I looks a bit more similar. I wanted one of each when I went to Japan but they were quite expensive.
Hi Claudie, a bronze eye samurai :D I am so glad that you are enjoying BES! I think maybe you also will like Castelvania tv series, animation is really good, characters are good, good show)
I don't think they react to the cold by the way because most of them are fighters and warriors + honestly I love a good cold dip. It shocks the nervous system and actually it's very good for you. Jump starts your immune system your nervous system. Your muscular system everything great. Start to the day. Sorry. Anyway, thank you for mentioning this show. I love it. Reminds me of a younger years and a sense of peace that came with the martial arts and they do a great job of animating it. It's beautiful
"They're bedonking" 😆😅🤣😂 But jokes apart it's really terrible how they treated women and when Mizu started to wrap herself up I felt it...for real...in a physical way I felt it😬😬😬 Also I'd probably pretend to be a man either rather than live like that. Mizu Kiramman is amazing, can't wait to watch the rest of the show with you 💙
I love that this show is set in the Edo period in Japan (like a lot of 'real' anime), I like sword fights much more that guns and the elegance of the samurai is the best example.
@@ClaudieTV FYI: In the past I trained Aikido and Kenjustu, the latter one being Ken (samurai sword) training with Bo-ken's so wooden training swords. Still have one bo-ken at home now.
This series is really starting to grow on me…. this second episode was even much more interesting, I love that the plot is starting to become more complex… Nah, I don’t think Taigen is playing fool, he must genuinely believe that this samurai is a man, I think Mizu hid that fact all her life to avoid being sold as a slave or prostitute, being considered impure, a mixed demon, it would have been even worse to be a demon AND also a woman in that Era.. but I suspect the old man, the Swordmaker, he knew about that secret. I really enjoy these sword fights, amazing scene on the cliff, the camera angles, fantastic! such a great choreography on these fightings… hahaha, oh don’t turn around, you’re missing the best parts! 😂 you’re cute haha 😋 hahahah, yea yea yea, we all know you already knew it, shut up smarty-pants! 😋 haha unbelievable! haha how you knew??!!, I didn't even see it until he pulled out the broken sword.... I'm genuinely impressed at how good you're getting at that… 😅 The final scene was unexpected… yeah, a love triangle, hmm, I was like thinking the same… I already have my theories… oh I want an unexpected plot twist on this series haha… that would be awesome!.
@@ClaudieTV Oh I just watched them because my sisters wanted to watch them (That was the excuse oops! :P) Oh I LOVED THEM! what episodes! I’m really loving these characters so much! Even the moron guy, oh he has principles! I love that! haha.. oh and Mizu!, girl! she needs to live! haha, she’s so focus on her revenge, that I'm pretty sure she won't see certain things coming haha, this triangle is beginning to be SO interesting! haha… 10/10 this series so far :P
I think it is so unsettling to watch because this is acurate to history. Women had to go through this, and more, because they were only seen as property. Not only did they blacken their teeth, but foot binding was commonplace in order to make women seem more 'fragile'
Ok, I don’t hate Mizu. Mizu has done nothing wrong. I do like the show. They do a decent job at character creation and a compelling story. It just seems a little…… forced. And can we get some decently written male characters that aren’t meglomaniacs, sadists, perverts or sycophants. The blacksmith and rings are ok. I’m not sure about the rest.
@@ClaudieTV I've only seen them because my eldest was obsessed when he was younger, so I watched them all in order to be able to geek out with him. I'm just a nerd at quoting random shows/films that no one else ever understands lol Also. You are the leader of the Twonks. You have ALL of the points. Forever.
MOREOVER, everybody i know who watched arcane on my recommendation and then afterwards are like WHAT DO I WATCH NOW???????? WHAT WILL LIVE UP TO THAT??? This is the show i recommend to them
Just to quote the song from the "Super Mario” movie: Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, Peaches Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, Peaches I love you, oh 😂
Hi Claudie! There's an episode I'm looking forward to your reaction to, but I won't say which ;) By the way, I have a feeling that by the end of the series you'll be an expert at describing gory stuff and nudity :D
Seki saying "what man isn't" in response to Akemi is just gross. It reminds me of the quote: The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. As relevant today as it was back then.
So you have no problem using swear words in just about every video, yet somehow can't bring yourself to say "They're fucking..." and have to resort to "bedonking". That's just hilarious. The discomfort you have watching these scenes is amusing as all hell.
Personally, I am here for your honest reactions. Please know that I would rather see you be disappointed in a show than pretend to like it for fear of disappointing us.
None of these episodes turn out to be what you think are are going to be. There will be times when you will like and dislike every character, except Ringo.
I'm sure it's already been commented, but: everyone thinks Mizu is a man because they have no reason not to. Mizu appears to be a man in both etiquette and style, so a man she is. So, no, Taigen doesn't know and isn't just going along with it. To him, Mizu has always been male. Also! Taigen can't just stroll back and expect to marry Akemi as a dishonored samurai. It was only his status as a high-ranking samurai that gave him his shot in the first place. Otherwise, his status is "son of a poor fisherman" and that isn't going to sway Akemi's hand in marriage over the shogun's son. Dude is emotional about it for a reason 😅 (Okay, he's also just scorned and petty.) Your reactions for this show so far have been delightful! Hopefully you adjust to its gore levels, because there really is some stunning fight choreography/cinematography throughout. Good luck!
Firstly yup makes complete sense about Mizu, I mean more why hasn't Ringo accidentally blurted it out or something haha And don't worry I know why Taigen is 'emotional' it's more a joke when I make it in the episode. His only way to get his life back, is to go after Mizu so I get it completely! Thank you btw, its so wonderful I just love this show so much! 😊
@ClaudieTV You have me intrigued, by the way, about who Caitlyn is! I just started watching Arcane because friends of mine like it so much, but I'm only 2 episodes in. If I've met her, I don't remember, but if she's half as cool as Mizu, I can't wait.
Can tell if I like the show more or you giggling through sex scenes and the awkwardness of fight scenes. Either way, I am enjoying these reactions. Cheers.
I actually don't remember if there was a dingo of Ringo, if you catch my lingo.
There was for sure a little dingo upon Ringo, but not the smallest dingo I saw of all the Ringo's if you catch my lingo 😂

I believe the one that the hosemen are wearing is the Oni mask since they're men also I looks a bit more similar. I wanted one of each when I went to Japan but they were quite expensive.
Ah thank you for explaining that, that's super interesting
@@ClaudieTV Got u fam 😂
Well done Claudie :)
you know it's really funny how you react to the harsh scenes because as an anime fan it's really normal to see does scenes
39:21 To be fair it must have been very cold… 🥶
Haha indeed it was
That binding scene man. Hits so hard. 😢
yeah that was a hard watch wasnt it
I was watching this on my lunch break.
Nearly choked on the "Paul McCartney"...
I'm just happy it all went so fast I didn't have time to fully focus on George and John too 😂😂😂
Hi Claudie, a bronze eye samurai :D I am so glad that you are enjoying BES!
I think maybe you also will like Castelvania tv series, animation is really good, characters are good, good show)
Haha Bronze Eye Samurai, sounds good don't it haha
Ok cool noted :)
Hi Claudia :) Awasome episode so far & you looks greate with free long hair😍
Btw who did not choose to stay with Mizu rather go to weird ceremony..?)
Haha very true!
"They're bedonking" 😆😅🤣😂 But jokes apart it's really terrible how they treated women and when Mizu started to wrap herself up I felt it...for real...in a physical way I felt it😬😬😬 Also I'd probably pretend to be a man either rather than live like that. Mizu Kiramman is amazing, can't wait to watch the rest of the show with you 💙
Oh that's awesome you're enjoying it! And yes I'd 100% pretend to be a man and hope for the best tbh
@@ClaudieTV Jesus, just imaging doing it every single day of your life... hide everything...but ok it's still better than be treated like that.
I love that this show is set in the Edo period in Japan (like a lot of 'real' anime), I like sword fights much more that guns and the elegance of the samurai is the best example.
Yeah it is very well done
@@ClaudieTV FYI: In the past I trained Aikido and Kenjustu, the latter one being Ken (samurai sword) training with Bo-ken's so wooden training swords. Still have one bo-ken at home now.
I was hoping you'd tell it was that assassin purely by his 5head, its huge.
🤣
Best show of 2023
I can see why, its awesome isn't it?
10:15 Zuko?
Not sure what you mean sorry
The character from Avatar The Last Airbender 🤣 he's a lot like Taigen at the beginning of the show, and always brings up wanting to regain his honor
This series is really starting to grow on me…. this second episode was even much more interesting, I love that the plot is starting to become more complex…
Nah, I don’t think Taigen is playing fool, he must genuinely believe that this samurai is a man, I think Mizu hid that fact all her life to avoid being sold as a slave or prostitute, being considered impure, a mixed demon, it would have been even worse to be a demon AND also a woman in that Era.. but I suspect the old man, the Swordmaker, he knew about that secret.
I really enjoy these sword fights, amazing scene on the cliff, the camera angles, fantastic! such a great choreography on these fightings…
hahaha, oh don’t turn around, you’re missing the best parts! 😂 you’re cute haha 😋
hahahah, yea yea yea, we all know you already knew it, shut up smarty-pants! 😋 haha unbelievable! haha how you knew??!!, I didn't even see it until he pulled out the broken sword.... I'm genuinely impressed at how good you're getting at that… 😅
The final scene was unexpected… yeah, a love triangle, hmm, I was like thinking the same… I already have my theories… oh I want an unexpected plot twist on this series haha… that would be awesome!.
Honestly I adore it! You'll love the next 2 eps especially I think, oh boy if you think this is heating up now, just wait haha!
38:12 Caludie reacts to Dongles
I think it is so unsettling to watch because this is acurate to history.
Women had to go through this, and more, because they were only seen as property.
Not only did they blacken their teeth, but foot binding was commonplace in order to make women seem more 'fragile'
She is getting her way.... all of it"
Can you describe all the bits you can't show like this!!!
Oh I will do don't you worry haha
Mizu hmm, quite a familiar face these days. I suppose I don’t need to advise you on the hazards of anime entanglements. 😂
😂👌
Ok, I don’t hate Mizu. Mizu has done nothing wrong. I do like the show. They do a decent job at character creation and a compelling story. It just seems a little…… forced. And can we get some decently written male characters that aren’t meglomaniacs, sadists, perverts or sycophants. The blacksmith and rings are ok. I’m not sure about the rest.
Your reactions to the videos are amazing. ❤😊 However, I’d like to suggest the series Vox Machina and Dota 2. You might like them. 😊😊😊
Thank you, and noted. :)
36:16 no it actually means that she already killed one of them
Who tho?
Ringo best boi ❤
"She hasn't even got the high ground"
My nerdy ass = We all know what happened to Anakin when Obi-wan had the high ground 🤓
I have never seen Star Wars... how many Twonk points do I lose haha
@@ClaudieTV I've only seen them because my eldest was obsessed when he was younger, so I watched them all in order to be able to geek out with him.
I'm just a nerd at quoting random shows/films that no one else ever understands lol
Also. You are the leader of the Twonks. You have ALL of the points. Forever.
MOREOVER, everybody i know who watched arcane on my recommendation and then afterwards are like WHAT DO I WATCH NOW???????? WHAT WILL LIVE UP TO THAT??? This is the show i recommend to them
Intense? Oh, just wait haha.
😂
Miss Claudie and swordfather Hmmming at the same time over that BS story 😆
haha🤣
There are growers and there are showers.
Taunting the baddies by chanting "losers"
😆😆😆😆
Lets go PEACHES
Just to quote the song from the "Super Mario” movie:
Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, Peaches
Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, Peaches
I love you, oh 😂
@Chakuza04 Well, Mario was a dirty little dog all along!! 😄
@ Blue Eye Samurai and Claudie have ruined me for all future Mario games. 😅
@@Chakuza04 Certainly will be a different experience now!!
Hi Claudie! There's an episode I'm looking forward to your reaction to, but I won't say which ;)
By the way, I have a feeling that by the end of the series you'll be an expert at describing gory stuff and nudity :D
Yeah haha I can imagine the way this show is going!
Seki saying "what man isn't" in response to Akemi is just gross.
It reminds me of the quote: The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
As relevant today as it was back then.
Yup 100%
15:38 well, in addition to being an illegal white man in Edo Japan, it’s also Kenneth Branagh. The talent they got for this show is insane.
Yup I couldn't believe it was him when I looked it up
Also in his native Irish accent.
Ringo is the best
So you have no problem using swear words in just about every video, yet somehow can't bring yourself to say "They're fucking..." and have to resort to "bedonking". That's just hilarious. The discomfort you have watching these scenes is amusing as all hell.
😂
Yeah…you’re probably going to need to invest in a censoring tool for this show. 🤣
Haha all good I either cut or cover haha
Personally, I am here for your honest reactions.
Please know that I would rather see you be disappointed in a show than pretend to like it for fear of disappointing us.
Awesome that's so good to hear!
Dude is emotional about it for a reason 😅 (Okay, he's also just scorned and petty.)
Your reactions for this show so far have been delightful! Hopefully you adjust to its gore levels, because there really is some stunning fight choreography/cinematography throughout. Good luck!
Firstly yup makes complete sense about Mizu, I mean more why hasn't Ringo accidentally blurted it out or something haha
And don't worry I know why Taigen is 'emotional' it's more a joke when I make it in the episode.
Cheers.
haha you're welcome
my 14-year-old goddaughter reacts more maturely to nudity in shows than you do! (but don't change, it's part of your charm!)😉
Haha I like laughing at it, boring otherwise
Anyone else cringe hard when you hear the Fang leader’s laugh at 20:20 and 44:28? What a smug, punchable character. Boils my blood lol
