Robert Langford Good point, and I agree - yet it sure seems like a game to me, at least much more a game than a fair debate. Jon Snow is doing everything he can think of to derail the conversation from the issue at hand, abruptly switching subjects, ad hominem arguments, interrupting rudely etc. Brand is witty and articulate enough not to fall for it, but it kind of works anyway because so much of the limited broadcast time is thus wasted. The one thing not really discussed here is the actual issue the show claims to be addressing.

Exactly. He almost asked about how Brand thinks decisions should be made ( 5:45 ) but then seems to abandon it in favour of asking if he believes in climate change, to use up the rest of the air time talking about something specific and beside the point entirely.

Let's be honest Russell brand raises awareness on issues really well and creates a discussion and makes some really good points. But some of the things he says are completely wrong. For example claiming that the media were hyping up the idea of war between Ukraine and Russia before it started, to get the Western readers ready for war and to help sell the news. Then Russia invades and he's suddenly moving on to the next injustice. It's just a straight up misinterpretation of what's happening.
He then ties any conclusions he draws, which are often good, into his grand narrative that the rich are there to exploit the poor, and money always goes to the rich at the expence of the poor. There are certain topics he wont even touch, like Lia Thomas or that biological male who completed in the olympics in the female weight lifting.
I think his problem is, he tries to look at topics objectively, and he does a great job at that, and then he slots it into his narrative of the world and never critiques his narrative of the world objectively.

@@callumosullivan7546 Because he's denoting any actual political insight he might have by mirroring it with a past drug addiction, a personal hardship which was both irrelevant to this conversation, and is likely quite traumatic.
Then, the term 'revolutionary' is a strong one, a term that will often cause viewers to discard a person's argument on the basis that it's 'lofty', or that they're an 'extremist'. This juxtaposition doubles down on that effect, it's like saying 'would you trust the politics of a guy that used to shoot up, and is probably still so out of his mind that he thinks he's some kind of revolutionary?'
If he just countered his arguments in a logical and reasonable fashion, using policy and statistics to back his argument up, I'd have no issue with the interviewer as it's fine to disagree with someone's politics if you're being an adult about it, and the conversation is constructive without having to resort to personal attacks about the past. If he rephrased it to 'I know you've overcome personal hardship in the past, does that factor into how you view politics now?' it would be different in terms of the subtext... 'drug-addict' turned 'revolutionary' is a desperate attempt to discard his arguments by using personal information about someone's past to belittle/discredit them, while also bringing their mental clarity into question. Better to discard arguments with a credible political standpoint of your own, no?

Sorry but No i don't think that true at all.
Infact it sounds like you see this as a battle of opions, which also wrong.
Jon Snow, the interviewer is a extremely intelligent man. IQ wise he's defo higher than russel (no offense)
then again russels had longer to prep, plus he understands the nature of the interview.
granted rusells ability to call out the farsical nature of the interview; in a pre trump, pre meta era was special and certainly shows how switched on he is!
Plus his off the cuff joke about stripping of air, is why this man deserves everyone of his 5m+ followers.
But this isnt a 1v1 right and wrong argument.. Jons personal feelings towards drugs where later explored in a doc called the cannabis trials inwhich Jon takes cannabis for the 1st and only time. And gives his honest opinion, he he's a bit of a legend for that.
Jon's rapid questions are used partly to fit a lot into 1 segment, partly because he's knows how russel rants, and admitedly partly to try and catch russel out.
Whats nice about this, is the way that they BOTH smile at each other knowingly when they think each other has a fair point,
Then again if you meant Russell has a great IQ because he's managed to make a clip that can still be talked about 8 years later.. you're totally right

Now Russel is asking for real changes in laws which is necessary for drug use as for the past 60-70 years the existing laws have not been useful at all.

2nd you clearly misunderstand the role of an interviewer.
It's NOT to agree, (nor disagree) it's to ask probing questions. (notice the difference between opinions are questions)
The probing question Jon asks about drug policy leads to Russel pointing out real reason Russel believes drug policy hasn't changed I.e. that the uk polical system needs changing. In the form of a non violent revolution.
Asking how that will be achieved is certainly not stupid. Russel encouraged people not to vote, so asking how to enact peaceful change is a fair question.

Rich Because even thought Russell went into this with the mindset of “I’m going to go onto this show and make my point about drug laws and how they must be changed” Jon Snow’s mindset was clearly the generic style of throwing a question at an interviewee hoping it’ll rattle them and then thinking “oh that didn’t fumble him, better cut him off and ask the next preplanned bait question before he actually gets any concise point in”

I personally believe that at the end of this pandemic, Keir vs Boris will drive some very strong debates, but with a middle-ground they're both willing to agree on, for the best of the people rather than opposing something just because the other supports it. One example is this extra long lockdown we're currently in, Boris didn't want it, but they came to an agreement. I'm not saying anything on Boris vs May or Keir vs Corbyn, the formers were driven by media entertainment, and so is Boris to be fair (though he does have experience), but I believe they're rational enough between them to put the overall country first before their egos, like we've seen up until now.

I'm not sure what's confusing about that. Most people I know who want to make a difference in the UK vote for labour, but now even with Labour the people's desired leader has been unfairly ousted from the party. So, they tried to vote for a party that would make a difference, and then after the election the establishment just ousted the man leading the change. Completely unrepresentative of members' wishes.
It is best to support organisations you believe in who operate independent of parliament, though make use of it when it furthers their cause. They have preestablished goals in mind, and they use any service to achieve them, if they don't achieve them you revoke support, and they don't have any more control than that.
I'm not saying I agree with the notion that people shouldn't vote for politicians, a lot of my family have been elected reps and inspirational people, but to try make out than Jon Snows repetitive question was a good one is completely wrong, and it's obvious it was a loaded question that didn't seek an answer, but sought to delegitemise the speaker.

This petition for reformation or drug laws is finally a movement from the people which is “action on the streets” which Jon says that Russell endorses but never does. And although the needs of the common person won’t be coming from an everyday person Jon says that the bill doesn’t represent everyday peoples views. Well no shit an everyday man can’t go and voice their opinion because we have been set up in a society which you literally can’t, you have to have years of experience, thus until the framework of government changes we are forced to try force our agenda on politicians until they can’t refuse but to talk about them. A complete reform is needed in the structure of society if the real views of people are to ever be truly represented

People who think Brand is "dumb" just don't understand him.

He is highly intelligent. I have not heard of anyone calling him dumb. I'm thankful for people like Russel with a voice for the people.

They don't take his points seriously, then they don't have to approach an actual discussion. I think that is the biggest problem. Everything now is baiting for higher ground in the place of actual discussion.

Brand is right, why Vote for a party? They all suck, but lets vote for policy, if it matters

Just make your own party and vote for it, but could turn out that the majority of the country actually doesn't want the same like some punks protesting on the streets...

True, but, it seems politics is manipulated by the people that have all the money. They manipulate, kill, blackmail, LIE and just cause hell. Once the money has gone, these people will have nothing, then we can look at getting a proper government with intelligent people who are passionate about helping society. Get rid of these old grey haired men, who are stuck in old outdated primative ideologies. We need younger politicians who have empathy and creativity. People who are recognised for their intelligence and not because of the private school they came from, or how much money their family has. The system is broken, which is why I do not vote, all the parties are failures

well its not that, the fact is the party's are faceless a fisad for whats behind the scenes, voting a party in makes almost no difference.

Yeah. Sometimes i wish i could take over my country, so i could put an end to partisanship immediately. 2 party system in America has put us in a stasis bubble. The constant back and forth, the immoral decisions on our lives for quarterly gains, and the eduactional standstill we are in because of money, and partisanship. Its turned americans into a bunch of dumbshits, and i cant take it anymore!!!

My man just asked the same question 3 times in a row, each time interrupting Russel during his answer
