I think you’re right. Unstructured time is so important for creativity and mental health, yet our society teaches us that structured time is all you should have.
I do the same exact thing at night sometimes... I didn’t realize that someone else felt the same way. I love the stillness of the night to get deep into my state of flow on interesting ideas and programming work (professional programmer/software engineer). I love making a pot of coffee at night and just being with myself sometimes to settle down and invest completely into whatever creative activity. The only problem is society operates on regular daytime schedule and sometimes I feel myself being pulled between the two schedules (if that makes sense). It’s so wonderfully reassuring to hear that others feel the same way... The daily overly-structured meeting schedules are so constrictive and oppose creativity
