  • Hey everyone! My name is Dylan Taylor, and this is my DIY channel! Today I made a wooden bong pipe using a baby food jar, some plastic tube, and a few scraps of wood. The purposes of this video are for education. I do not condone smoking, nor do I smoke.

      If you don't smoke and have a good idea what of makes a good smoking pipe your pipe will be sub standard. Breathability, heat absorption, Size, comfort and finish. all these things make a good smoking pipe.

    • @DylansDIYWorkshop
      @DylansDIYWorkshop  7 років тому +2

      +commander187 not necessarily a sub standard pipe, I have friends who test and reflect for me, and i keep changing it up until I get one that works very well

    • @commander187
      @commander187 7 років тому

      You need to add carburation. Like a car the carburetor adds air to the fuel. The air oxidizes and cools. If you have to much heat/smoke You will not get as high no matter how much ice water you have the taste will be bad , you will not be able to clear it, after a few drags ( and choking sessions)the smoke will start to stale and it will not be a pleasurable experience in the least bit. Making pipes is not as simple as drilling a few holes.

    Glue, epoxy and plastic tubes...you definitely DON'T want smoke passing near those...

      Dylan's DIY Workshop good thing you've learned, always a good day when you learn something new. Maybe put a disclaimer on the parts regarding glue, epoxy and plastic tubes? Inform more people :)

      +tmctomas if I could put annotations on the video I would do that. UA-cam doesn't allow that anymore. But I can explain that in detail in the future

      also Osage Orange releases poison gas when heated so maybe be more careful with wood type in the future. dont want someone copying your video and actually smoking the thing to end up dead man.

    • @DylansDIYWorkshop
      @DylansDIYWorkshop  7 років тому

      +HS42 I honestly didn't know that it released a poisonous gas, as it was often used as firewood because it burns twice as hot as ash. A few people tested the pipe and it worked fine. No-one died

    I’d classify this pipe as art and wouldn’t use it if I owned one. I own some really expensive glass pipes that I’ve never used. I look at them as functional art.

    Nice work she even shaping and finishing this. Really pretty looking. To bad about the momentary gaff, but who doesn't have them every now and then. Just a suggestion that you could use to update this if you're still doing similar.
    I'll bet it's well within your capabilities to learn how to cut threads for the jar and there by skip the part where you epoxy the lid into the bottom. Let me know if you try it please. I'd love to see it!

    Just a personal observation... Several items used here (such as your plastic tubing and epoxy) I would NEVER expose to heat and smoke from!

    nice, if you make another one try using a ring for canning jars and this will give you a threaded ring that can fit any canning jar for the size of jar opening you want- from baby food jars to quart jars and you won`t have to drill holes in the lid as canning jar rings have a replaceable lid.

    I'm sorry but unless there's something that came up in the last 5 years, running the bowl near-directly into plastic hosing and epoxy is going to cause toxic fumes. I've done my own diy attempts like this before and all of them had problems with this. Be smart, no plastic or resins near the heat source.

    • @DylansDIYWorkshop
      @DylansDIYWorkshop  7 років тому +1

      +phil m I don't use resins or plastics any more. Thank you for the support

      phil m what about vinyl?

    • @upyours7
      @upyours7 7 років тому

      Same deal, as far as I've been able to find, there are no plastics that are safe when too close to the heat source. An example of a relatively safe plastic peice would be acrylic bongs, as long as the downstem is far enough from the bottom that the smoke i'snt touching it, since in this case there's not enough heat touching any plastics to cause it to release toxic fumes.
      Also try to avoid aluminium foil, as aluminium can release fumes aswell at too high of a temperature. Same goes for brass, and stainless steel to a degree. Titanium can be safer and is used in proper quality smoking pieces today on the market.
