Awesome video - thanks! Had the exact same issue on Crimson II and used this technique. Worked like a charm. It would trigger sporadically and then finally cut out completely. That must have been when the wires were completely severed. All it cost me was the price of a cheap soldering iron. Replacement kick pad would have been at least $150.
Thanks mate, you're a lifesaver! I sent off my snare about a fortnight ago just out of warranty and tonight my kick drum stopped working. I had a bit of an idea what to do but this video really helped. If only I could solder better.
I just facilitated a warranty claim on mine, because I was fortunate enough for the issue to arise while still under warranty. I figured if it happened within the first year I'll probably be fixing it myself down the road. Now I'll know what I'm getting into. I'll probably try and protect the wires from the edge somehow when I do. Thanks for the video!
I see it's been a year since you had to claim warranty. How has the repair held up? I immediately had an issue with volume on my kick trigger, and chalked it up to it being a $500 eKit. Now it's intermittent like my man's here was. Was yours quiet out of the box?
Nice technique doing this alone and using the super sticky glue to hold the disc for you. Thank you for taking the time to record, edit and post. I make how-to vids too and I know it adds precious time to the entire project.
I’ve had my Alesis kit for a few years now and this is exactly how mine is: the thin wires get cut through (clean) after so much playing. Luckily I had your video to show me exactly what to do to remedy my issue. Thank you so much!
Glad I could help out. It wasn't the best video, done on a whim. hopefully I'll have time to do a more thorough video on this issue and a higher quality repair once the next one presents itself. This one had to be finished same day, so no time to order anything.
Thanks Brad. Wish I'd seen this a week ago, I'd have saved buying my son another kick pad. Will now dissect the old Alesis one and see if I can fix it to ebay and get some money back...
Thanks so much for this. Couple of months back bought a trigger like this for my Sample Pad Pro. It was a demo version from the local music shop with a 50% discount, didn't try it out until yesterday. Turns out it's not working... Opened it up after finding your video and there it was: the red wire hanging loose from the trigger thing... Hope to be able to fix it soon. Thanks for making it look pretty easy :-) greetings from Holland
The EXACT same thing happened to my Alesis Crimson Kit Kick drum! What the hell where they thinking? Obviously the edge of the disc is going to slice through those wires!!! What a pain!
Thought the same. He Almost got it right. Almost. I was hopeful when he said he'd keep the leads, and shrink tube it. That's what I've done with mine. I expect the crystal to turn to dust before there's another wire issue at the piezo.
My upper pearl tru trac stopped working, looks like the 1/4 female jack is sloppy, is there a certain replacement 1/4 female i can replace it with, seems its on a little board but the board has nothing else on it, its just a neat way to be able to screw it onto the underside of the upper hi hat? Sensor works fine, but only when the cord is hanging partway out of the jack
It certainly seems like the next evolution in recording tech is targeting the very source of the capture, what with all the pattern emulation coming in from the likes of Austrian Audio and those 8-capsule devices mentioned herein. Putting DSP right there worries me a touch, but I guess they'll develop those tools to become irreplaceable in the near future.
i have the same kit... my problem is that my kick does not trigger if i dont hit it hard... what can it be? it is not a config issue, becouse its like its not getting a signal from the hit... how can i make it easier?
All the sudden with my pro strike kick. I have to really smash it, or it doesnt trigger when I tap above center with a stick, it works perfectly, anyone else with that problem?
i love repair videos nice job, i m newbie alesis surge mesh user, my kick pad is not as sensitive as i want, hitting the bottom of the mesh with my finger where the sensor is - i got okey sound but not with the pedal couse its hitting bullseye center, i have to kick the sh. outta it, what can i do to fix that?
Longshot, but you mentioned that I can send this to you to fix? I'm experiencing this exact issue and would prefer to have someone more technical than myself repair it. @brad
@@BradsGuitarGarage same here Brad. I live in Seattle and have little to no technical expertise in fixing this. If I were to send it to you in whichevwr city you live in as well as pay you for your efforts, will you be willing to take my Alesis kick pad?
Hi Nice video... Have you got links where we can buy the sensor ? I have exactly this kick pad alesis and i think i have to change this pièce too... But i don't find it on web. Thx mate
Why on earth don't you replace the PIEZO that is available in every music store for a few bucks? And you just don't solder the finished wires to the broken ones and that's it! I've done a lot of piezo repairs like this on electronic drums. It is probably the most common fault.
"available in every music store for a few bucks" is simply incorrect. NO MUSIC SHOP in Sydney stocks this sensor, so get your facts straight before shooting your mouth off. How many years ago was this video? I would do it differently these days, but you have no idea of the budget or application. I did this for free for a friend and the unit is still functioning perfectly while being used daily.

Somehow .... I have a DM 7 session and I'm fixing it for the 5th time, but it always breaks somewhere.

I hope you can sort it out, mate.
Looking back, I probably could have done it better, but it's still in service with no problems so far.
Thank you! My bass drum just stopped working. I had no idea where to start and if fixing is an option. I’m gonna give it a try.
Thanks from spain, you save my day!!!
I just took mine apart to find the same exact issue! Wow thank you for making this
No worries.
It's a rough early vid.
I'll make a more comprehensive one, should another unit present itself soon.
Thanks for the help on this! I have the exact same one broke at the exact same place
Thank you for the excellent video. I will try your technique on my kick pad!
The EXACT same thing happened to my Alesis Crimson Kit Kick drum!
What the hell where they thinking? Obviously the edge of the disc is going to slice through those wires!!!
What a pain!
That's how Big Piezo gets ya
And this is how we get back at Big Piezo
edge of disc cuts the wires.
could cut a slit in the foam to guide the wires down....
could put it back on the EXACT SAME WAY?
enjoy fixing it again.

i try this one, you nailed it.
thanks for sharing

Seems like a small dab of rubber adhesive where the wire meets the metal edge might stop this from happening again.
My mesh head is glued to the piezo sensor...?
What kit? My wasn't, but it was sticky after all the whacking. I suppose I should use a tissue.
I just got my first Alesis drums set. What can I do if the center kick is not being detected (no sound)?
What were you doing for the first 60 seconds? Returning emails?
mine doesn't respond to double pedals how to fix it?
Whats under the big foam pad. I think thats my problem
Do you know what is the name of that foam under piezo and the one that is in the middle? Need to replace mine. Thank you
It's a foam cock. Google that.
Does anyone know what size piezo sensor he used ?

You can buy a quick-bit for your cordless drill with a drum key on the end of it on Amazon, mate..
Where can you buy the transducer from to fix
Digikey, Mouser, Element 14, RS Components etc.
i have the same kit... my problem is that my kick does not trigger if i dont hit it hard... what can it be? it is not a config issue, becouse its like its not getting a signal from the hit... how can i make it easier?
There could be a broken wire that's making contact unless you hit it hard.
@@BradsGuitarGarage thanks!! That make sense

Does it work now?
Where are you located, I have alesis Tom's that I need to fix
Australia.
I love how they use a piece of tape to keep the wire back and out of harms way and then crimp it underneath a disc with a sharp edge. Pointless!
With the cheap wire under the sharp plate as tight as possible.
could you add a rim piezo to that conector if needed? i have the strike bass drum in a corner... so maybe i could make it another tom...
I reckon you could do that if your drum processor unit has the input for it.
are you change piezo sensor ı dont understand ?
Yes.
@@BradsGuitarGarage nuh-uh Brad. You did a solder on the orig.
27mm or 35mm?
Can't remember. It was 5 years ago. I'd just go for the same that was in there, but either one would probably work satisfactorily.
Brad do you do live repair on youtube? If so when? I'd like to join.
Haven't done live on UA-cam yet, as most of my followers and friends are on Facebook, so I stream there instead.

Turn your sensitivity up on your module for each individual pad. You can find the sensitivity option under triggers.

Try looking up "piezo transducer" on mouser or digikey and march the dimensions.
Surprised you didn’t fit a new one in for cost of piezo and all your time
