- Triumph is a Canadian hard rock band that was popular in the late 1970s through the 1980s. Eight of the band's albums were certified gold or higher, and Triumph was nominated for multiple Juno Awards, including Group of the Year Award in 1979, 1985, 1986 and 1987.
The band was formed in 1975 by Gil Moore (Drums & Vocals), Rik Emmett (Guitar & Vocals), Mike Levine (Bass Guitar & Keyboards), the band has since experienced multiple lineup changes.
I am a Black American Women that loves the work that Triumph put in the music that they do period.
Old white Canadian here. Loved these guys who are from my home town.

Absolutely..... 100%..... Loved them... I was 22 in 1981..... Almost as magical as the '70s....im almost 62...btw.
they were a a super group more talent than most
A super group is a group comprised from other well known bands so I wouldn't go so far as calling Triumph a super group but they were great at what they did.the bass player and drummer were as tight a rhythm section as any band ever had.
All trios have a good amount of talent. When you can fool listeners into thinking there’s 4,5, or 6 members with 3 is impressive. Damn impressive.
Stevie Ray Vaughn, Cream, highway robbery, rush, triumph, Hendrix come to mind when you say good-trios

Saw them 3 times in the 80s. EXCELLENT LIVE BAND with a totally underrated guitar player. The whole band was excellent. Singing drummer and all.
Rik and Triumph were a masterpiece of musical showmanship period.

In 1988 when MCA RECORDS was still around I use to work for MCA (Before the name was changed to Universal Music Group) the publicity director's assistant came to my office with this man to meet me.. Rik Emmett.. Such a nice guy who doesn't mind sitting with a fan and talking for almost an hour.. God bless you Rik !

rednecknber you are absolutely telling the truth, I'm an American. But the best Trio bands of all time and some of the greatest rock bands of all time have been from Canada.
@@kvbradford6509 I shan't totally agree. The UK had the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Cream, who directly inspired the 70s bands. Jimi might as well have been British too, because we loved him long before the USA did.

Triumph is by far one of the greatest bands of all time, I was fortune enough to have seen them 7 times here I Detroit they where better live than on record and there stage show there was not another band out there that could ever touch it or will there ever be. They never got the recognition witch if they did they would still be together today putting out great CD"s
Ahhh I remember big harmonies and real musicianship. Kinda seems a bit outdated now but how quick will the mass produced commercial shit we are dealt now disappear into oblivion. Not quick enough for my liking:)
My favorite cousin Roy , introduced me to this in the early 80's . R.i.p. Roy .... gone but never forgotten.
"Lay It on the Line" and "World of Fantasy" were two of the first videos I ever saw on MTV. It was the summer of 1982. Those videos were played a lot then.

OMG the memories Triumph brings to mind. All those hair bands from the 80's like Def Leppard, Asia, Loverboy, G&R, and so many others. THANK. YOU!!
In my opinion, Triumph is the most underrated band ever. They were the first concert I saw in 83 and even with the break to open the doors to let the pot smell air out for a bit, it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen! Trust me, I have seen many. Aside from this, as my neighbours here in Ontario, they are the nicest bunch of guys you could ever want to meet! Love you guys!! Oh, side note if you have a question or interesting event, comment on their channel and odds are one of them will answer you and there are not too many bands that answer their fans!
I saw Triumph 3 tours in the 80's. hands down one of the best live bands EVER!! I was fortunate enough to see Rik in San Antonio in 2014. I swear, the guy hasn't lost a stop. Innoway, I feel a little sorry for him though. I think all he ever really wanted was to be a lead guitarist, and was blessed or cursed, with one of the greatest voices of the history of rock 'n' roll.
O.M.G. I forgot about how much I LOVED him in the red jumpsuit!!! In addition to being an amazing songwriter/guitarist/singer, he was SOOOO incredibly hot back then!!! He's still very handsome in my book, but back in the day, Lay It On The Line and Say Goodbye had my heart going pitter-patter a little bit faster!!! ;o)

I love this group! Saw them in concert with Foghat in '82 in Pgh PA. Great, great show. Rik Emmet still sounds like he did back then. Man, this takes me back. This is when musicians actually wrote their own songs and music and played their own instruments. Nothing like today's crap music! Thanks for the video!
Denise Flick, That's crazy! I was at the same show at the Civic Arena! I have always loved Triumph. They are amazing, especially for a 3 man band.
I was also at this concert in 82 at the Civic Arena in the Burgh!

Canadian 3 member bands can put out incredible sound, Triumph being one of them.

I've always been a fan since I was a little kid. Growing up, I saw Rik play live in 1990, and I found his guitar pick lying on the ground after he threw it. It's white and says "Fender Heavy" on it. You can see me play one of their songs on the channel "2112 dorf".
great Rick Emmet! No one mentioned, but He hits incredible high notes at the end of great "lay it on the line" song and with such a power, brilliant! I think only elite can sing those notes with that class :)

Rush is and was and always will be considered the best 3 pc, band of all time BUT I gotta say TRIUMPH is right there with them TRIUMPH was and has been overlooked and underated alot RICK EMMET KICKS TOTAL ASS

***** Just comparing two bands with similarities: Suburban Toronto; power trio; high pitched lead vocals. Did Triumph perfect the Rush formula or merely ape them and fizzle out, leaving the trip to the Hall in Cleveland for Rush? THAT is the question and the one to ponder...............
fligemon what if I were to toss in the opinion that your favorite band Rush peaked with hemispheres in 1979 and all their work afterward was spotted with great songs but no great albums. ....That is what I believe. Although 2112 and hemispheres caress of steel were masterpieces if Rush had stopped recording after Moving Pictures I would have them in much higher regard. ....So leave Triumph alone....they are decent in their own right.

Evan Tisby It is a different recording session than the studio version, but you can hear multiple guitars and vocal overdubs.

Power Trios of Triumph, Rush, ELP, Genesis, and The Police. Too bad awesome talent is now only found on recorded loops that todays acts use in their songs.
We smoked so much spleef listening to this stuff I'm surprised my hair isn't tacky leaf green with reddish strands. I can still smell the waft of the basement 30 yrs later. Life was good. Too many hangups these days, too much P.C. Bring back the 80s, everyone can relax. Spin up the turntable and take a big hiiiit.

Yes, would it not be cool if Rik, was the lead guitarist for RUSH with Geddy and Neil? RUSH would have been 10-times even better!!!!! Rik, deserves more credit than he got! Hearing Geddy and Rik harmonizing and singing would have put us listeners on another planet!

I remember back in the beginning of MTV when they would take songs, put them to a random video, and the pairing would make absolutely zero sense. They would mainly do it late of a nighttime. A good example I can recall is Jimi Hendrix's ~ Foxey Lady paired with a video that was shot from a first person perspective of somebody riding a rollercoaster in the first car. Yeah, that made perfect sense. lmao
MTV should go back to its original format, it sucks now.
When they got rid of the videos I left. They really have turned into a shitshow. The show was absolutely fantastic back at the beginning.

Back when MTV played good music! In fact, I think kids today would be totally shocked at what MTV used to be (really good)...
After about 1985 or so, they didn't play Triumph on MTV anymore(in the US). Luckily I had a friend with the Allied Forces album that won me over for life : )
I seen Y&T at the Carmel Ice Skating Rink here in Indiana back in the late 80's. They were second on the stage of 3. Mamma's Boy's opened, Y&T second and the headliner, Twisted Sister!
Was a great concert, in an extremely small venue.

I LOVE Triumph, and, honestly, I REALLY miss the way MTV was in the beginning... MTV really stinks now.. I wish they'd go beck to the MTV vj's and play rock videos.. really, really miss that...I Miss Triumph, as in Rik, Gil, and Mike, NOT touring ,more though.... Wish they'd just get some practice time together and go out and do us a tour here in the USA! They have no idea how they are missed!! ♥♥♥

I love this band and Rik Emett will always be a guitar hero and has been a huge influence to my playing for the past 40 years.
These guys need to get back together and tour again !
