Mtv Began August 1st ,1981 at exactly 12:01 am eastern time. This channel is dedicated in honor of those first 5 awesome years . Between 1981 and 1986 the public welcomed VJ's Mark Goodman, Alan Hunter , Nina Blackwood, JJ Jackson , and Martha Quinn into their homes 24 hours a day / Seven days a week. It was an amazing time to discover great music in a new format. Please feel free to share any memories of what was once a great MUSIC channel. And for anyone who thinks today's MTV is still a hip channel for young people...sorry ...but I'm gonna have to make you put on the glasses...Now! (John Carpenter's 1987 They Live Reference)

Sounds dam good so underrated
There's Brand X. Then Triumph.
Why, why are they (NOT)😮 in the Rock Hall of Fame, this is rock unlike the garbage they allow in EVERY SINGLE YEAR! 😢
За 14 лет девяносто тысяч просмотров шедевра! 😢 закат цивилизации? Или опускаемся на дно?😮 или уже на дне?🦴
Rik had the whole package, beautiful voice, awesome guitar playing, perfect stage presence, and gorgeous to look at ❤❤❤
I still want my MTV back!
I still want my MTV back just like the way it was, without the reality shows.
The original concept for MTV was fantastic. It was like watching a mini concert on TV. If only they had stayed true to original concept and not gone down the road of reality TV, it would have remained a music powerhouse.
This is great only had 30 channels but one was MTV . And you tune your stereo into the channel also !
What an amazing decade . I was 17 . Magical times I will never forget . The love and friendship towards all Is what I miss most . No computers Hardly any internet I had two friends with brick cell phones We still joke where did that money come from .
Me singing and playing guitar on a Triumph cover song. Lay It On The Line! Put the head phones on and rock out! ua-cam.com/video/lvBewmQoaWU/v-deo.html 😉😎🥳🤪
John whispers into Dick Cavit’s ear, Jack Palance whispers into Yoko’s ear, Yoko whispers into John’s ear. And all is perfect in the universe.
I bought a Cheap Trick album (the first album) because I thought it was Punk. I’d heard not one song before buying that album. I ended up loving the LP.
You had to have the Jordache jeans.
I was lucky to see Van Halen in its pure state with David Lee Roth and years later with Sammy Hagar. Both iterations were good, but the David Lee Roth version was best.
Not just better music back then, but definitely better MTV , today’s MTV sucks 🤮
Let's sing together !! 🎤 #102
Seen them on this tour still seeing spots from flashpots was right up front! 😂
Time Travel is Easy with UA-cam and MTV
0:11 an often overlooked song and video. Rhythm of the Jungle by the Quick. Check this other song by them it was a club staple Zulu Man ua-cam.com/video/tKaesrzB4Sw/v-deo.htmlsi=FuSPzwL5W26oUtPG
Another underrated song and video. After a busy sometimes rough day at high school I’d watch this vid and crack open a can of Coke and chips and just decompress.
Whoa Planet P!!! I’ll never forget the song or the video!! Highly underrated and spooky
I think this was Van Halen's year . Nothing Hagar did equals what happened in 1984 . I think this was the time when the band actually started getting paid and were free of their original contract with Warner Brothers . Most of the Roth era albums profits went to Warner Bros . Not with this album .
Van Halen was at its best when David Lee Roth was with them. Rest in Peace Eddie Van Halen.
40 years…
Always wondered who the girl dancer was and what she's doing now?
back then was it high quality when you were watching it or was it like this?
That Jordache commercial, though.
I like the second band.... they have that phil collins sound
if MTV had just stuck with playing music instead of all this other nonsense, they could have remained great. Also, another obscure song
This rules so much. 💜
Mike love has been a tool since 1962 and he's also a Donald Trump knob shiner these days deep into his cult!!!
New frontier is just like other any steely Dan track really
This is actually intruder and pretty woman from the diver down album it's two different tracks
As a child of the 60s and 70s music I hated the 80s. To me it was the end of good music (with a few exceptions, e.g. Talking Heads).
dam i thought i was back in time in the 80's .
Грэхем супер !
Back when the channel was worth watching.
This was a week before my 18th birthday. Man, to go back for one day 😔
The one and only Mr Eddie Van Halen
I can’t tell what I like the most; The videos, seeing Nina in her younger self, or the commercials. Good Lord, the 80s was a great decade. Happy to have shared it with you my brothers and sisters from the 80s
never know crosby stills and nash did movie sound track never go russian lol ha
"Fair is Fair" - Billie Jean Davy '85
what is the name of the dancer in the video?
Mary Smith.
@@bobbyhanly3466 Thanks Bobbyhanly.
The beautiful Sylvia Bell! Like most 80's videos they had to have a hot girl(s) and Sylvia certainly fit the bill on All Night Long. Graham Bennet had the look dialed. Would not have expected that kind of power coming from the 80's cocaine dealer looking type guy.
Is that who we saw dancing in the beginning of the video?
@@decimated550 YES!
@@cyclingbutterbean L-L-L-Loordy she iz hot
JP's defenders of the faith album! Saw them in 1983 and I was a total metalhead at this point. Head bangers ball was the best!
80's women were beautiful, no tackle box faces rings in noses and tattoos.
I was really disappointed in MTV. I thought it should have more videos of live shows and less of the overproduced nonsense. I soon stopped watching.
I was 21 in 1984 , went and seen Van Halen April 1984 @ Cobo in Detroit, one of the Best concerts ever! The 80s were the Best!
ahh to be 22 again lol great time to be a part of! even the commercials were tolerable unlike it is in the twilight zone wacky world of 2023! how embarrassing the shit is today?! 🤷♂️🤪🤡🌈💩planet 👎💪🇺🇸💪👍
