I go to a gospel hall where the women wear dresses/skirts only. Sunday mornings are quite dressy but evening gospel meetings and Bible studies are more casual. A denim skirt is a staple for me because of that. I love them!!! It looks great on you for sure.
I'm 60 and I always loved denim skirts. They keep coming back into fashion regularly. The reason why I like them is that depending on the shoes, top and jacket, you can appear casual, semi-casual, or even dressed up a bit. It is very versatile.
I appreciate your courage in showing us the frumpy options as well as the chic ones! I have to agree that the runners weren't a good look with your jean skirt, but you absolutely rocked it with your heeled boots, belt and the Chanel-style jacket. Smashing!
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Bonjour Marie-Anne, how true is this!!! And it does not only work in the field of fashion... Even in, for instance, language classes students learn from negative examples, after my experience. Good method! And most of the time also entertaining... :-))
So happy you have added a demin skirt to your wardrobe. I wear mine all year round but have never been happy with my styling. From now on, whatever the season I will team it with something chic and not too casual. Thank you again Marie Ann. By the way I am in my seventies and dislike the idea of dressing either too frumpy or too young. Looking chic and elegante is a must at any age
Definitely the higher heel with the longer skirt! The lower heels, especially the sneakers, do look frumpy. What a difference! I purchased a denim skirt for the first time in years last summer. It is shorter though, the hem just skims my knees, and I wear it with a slim-fit white t-shirt and a pair of cute floral print sneakers. I think the sneakers work because the skirt is just knee-length. (Maybe I need the longer skirt for winter now! 😊)
I loved the 2 blazers. The one with the check pattern was especially pretty. (I really enjoyed your short video a while ago, filmed in a wintery landscape and you wore a blazer with a check pattern. Wonderful!) Thanks, Marie - Anne!
Great video! I’ve always been conflicted on denim skirts. I’ve tried them throughout the years, but struggled to make them work. I found it interesting that the more elevated pairings looked the best. You look great in everything but make a great point about the sneakers! That was a definite no even for you!
Thanks Marie-Anne for taking the time to trial items that are not necessarily part of your own style repertoire and showing the mistakes not to make when styling them. I am not into denim skirts either but I must admit that the option with the plain black blazer was my favourite on you. It's nice to have you back on a new video, I hope your recovery is going well. Take care x
That denim skirt really suits you especially with boots and plaid jacket. Haven’t worn my denim skirt in ages, so will now start experimenting. Thanks for the tips
You brought back beautiful memories from guess who? Yes, granny Mary! When the denim skirts were the trend back in the 80’s she said, “I will wear them my way not the trendy way. I’m not a fool fashion follower” She made one in dark denim (she received “couture” lessons from a French lady when she was a teenager), pencil shaped and with the opening in one side not in the back as everyone was wearing. To give it a more polished look, she added some pearl buttons above the side opening and everyone loved it. So once again we see that the clue is adjust the trends to ourselves not the other way.
Hi Marie-Anne Funny thing l purchased a skirt exactly the same. So glad l took the leap having fun with it. Hope you are well, have a great week ahead. Thank you for the informative video throughly enjoyed 😉
This was so much fun Marie Anne, thank you!! I thought my denim skirt days were over and oh, how I missed them. I had two in the early 70's - both midi, one straight like yours and one with a slight flare or pieced bias cut and buttons down the front. Also a mini skirt but I won't count that - it lasted only a year. The other two though were worn and loved for years - with either brown Frye boots or Mia clogs and tights, generally pullover turtleneck or scoop neck tops ( poor boy sweaters) & sometimes a vest. They left my closet because they had a young girl college look. They have been missed. Today you resurrected them in my mind and grew them up to have a place in a woman's closet. I'm going to look for a vintage one! Cheers & Happy New Year!
Oh, I am so glad that Marie-Anne has changed your outlook!! (I am most definitely not a style expert, but I think this specific style of denim skirt would look beautiful on any age and any body type). ❤️ The only exception I see is if someone (for whatever reason) cannot wear heels. In that case, I think a shorter skirt would be more flattering and feminine. 🙂 If this person is not particularly crazy about their legs or knees, then I bet putting on a pair of opaque tights would solve the problem! 👍

Hello Marie Anne. I got ready to go out recently and something looked wrong. Then I remembered what you said about shoes and, of course, that was the problem. You are so right. I changed my shoes and everything looked better. Thank you.
Those were the times when we cut open an old denim trouser and sewed a denim skirt using the under leg part for wedges to close the gaps. I still got one..
Thank you so much Marie-Anne - omg, you're psychic! I literally have a new midi denim skirt coming tomorrow - it's a very new look for me too :-) However, I work in an (excessively?) casual workplace so I'm really gravitating towards "casual elevated" so that I can feel my best, but also not be over-the-top for my particular situation. You're really helped me out so much today as I've been wondering how I'll style it. I loved it with the heeled boots and patent belt and also with those gorgeous mary janes. Thank you so, so much for this very informative video. I never really knew how to wear my denim skirt without looking too casual so it just sat in my closet. I will definitely be pulling it out now and trying your suggestions. 💕

Great video.. I agree the flat shoes are a no no… the blouse is a no no for me. I absolutely love the skirt with the various jackets and the long coat. They step up the outfit completely. Marie-Anne, the video really stresses how important one’s shoes are. Thanks as usual…and best wishes in 2023.
Marie-Anne, thank you so much for this video. For better or worse, the States tend to be much more casual. Denim skirts of all cuts and lengths have been popular here for decades. So I very much appreciate that you chose to stretch your own style sensibilities for your viewers. 🤗 I noticed that you took care to not make your outfits overly casual, and I was stunned to see how much better they looked as a result! I was shocked at how quickly it can become dowdy. Thanks for showing us the "ouis" and the "nons" because it proves that developing a chic sense of style is a process. It also empowers me to believe that I can do it, too. Sending you love. ❤️
I'd never wear a denim skirt but I have some midi corduroy skirts that I consider 'country casual' so your suggestions were helpful. My boots are flat or low heel or wedges so I draw the eye up with hat, scarf or necklace. I am tall and thin, so that helps a bit.
Well now you have me thinking. I’m still not sure I’ll be doing the denim skirt, but if I do, I’m styling it your way. I think your choices were spot on.
Yes! The blue-brown/plaid jacket and heeled boots looked awesome. I don’t wear a denim skirt because if all the “No” combos you found! I found those 2. Lol. Looks great on you! ❤️🇨🇦❤️
Love this video. I have a denim skirt in my closet and have been struggling to figure out how best to wear it. This video answers that question and then some. Brilliant!
Amazing how different the denim skirt looks in different outfits! Showing looks that work and don’t work us very helpful. I love the Chanel jacket! Definitely needs the heels. I’m only 5 feet tall, so you are right. I need to be careful with a skirt like that. Thank you!
Merci beaucoup Marie Anne for this video. I am thinking for a while about knee-length denim skirt, and you showed perfectly how to style. I am sick of wearing pants and jeans, so lately I am looking for dresses and skirts. Is hot summer in South Australia, so I would choose thinner denim and light colour, but the rules apply the same. No sneakers for sure. About flats - if skirt would be shorter and more fitted then nice sandals wouldn't hurt, but for more feminine, look at least 4cm heel could be great. To add some nice top or silk blouse, accessories and voilà. Btw from your winter outfits I just adore black heel boots and Chanel style sparkly jacket. Très chic et élégant 🥰
Nice to see you back! Not the most flattering kind of skirt, even though you are both slim and tall. But it was brave and interesting because I've always wondered, considering that I like denim...
For petites, this is where the "wear what's flattering over what is fashionable" comes in. I made my own jean skirt last year when they were all the rage out of an old pair of jeans I stole from my husband. I experimented with different lengths, but below the knee is what worked best in the end, as I thought. Proportion wise, it looks similar to a midi length on a taller woman. I have not thought of wearing my jean skirt at work and in the fall, but I will try it this fall, before it gets too cold to wear denim.
I am so happy to see you again. I missed you. I did watch your little shorts and enjoyed them immensely. But I love seeing a full video. I have worn jean skirt since I was probably 10 years old. I have always loved them. Thank you for some new wonderful ideas on how to wear them. Back in the day when I was a lot younger I wore the mini skirts but now I do like the longer ones. Lol. Thank you. BTW: You look wonderful in your first jean skirt. ❤
I'm so glad you did this video because I have just purchased a long denim skirt from Zara. It has a belt and side seams which means I can wear it casual or with boots. 🌹
Bonsoir Marie-Anne, I’ve got a lovely denim midi skirt in my wardrobe but have never known what to wear with it! Loved your ideas, especially the black patent belt. x
I am a big fan of a denim skirt with boots and feel they are a great alternative to jeans. I like them in the summer with high sandals or espadrilles and a scooped neck t-shirt. It is casual, but I live in a town by the sea and next to the countryside. Most people do not dress up here. I think you got some great styling here and hope you enjoy your skirt.
Fun fun fun! I just bought myself a denim skirt with button split in front, under knee length. Because a denim skirt is a classic, smart, casual and great to walk the doggies or do shopping!
Happy New Year Marie-Anne! Nice to see you again! I hadn't seen a video from you in awhile then a note on FB that you've been under the weather? Great video! I'm debating about getting a denim skirt either knee length or midi! Thank you for the styling tips!!
Great video Marie-Anne, one of the best i've ever seen because we can see not only what is beautiful but also what is not!! I would like more videos like that, please. Makes me understand more... The right shoes for a skirt or dress is also very important. I love your blasers!! Mostly the last one!!
Thank you for this, denim skirts have long been a favourite of mine. After watching your video, I found one on eBay which is absolutely perfect. I already have a grey and a navy turtleneck, so I'm looking forward to trying these looks. xx Pauline
My first choice with denim is a Chanel-style jacket. If I don't like it with the top then I wear something else, but they are my go-to, I have 3 in different colours. I also have a lovely black Luisa Spagnoli blazer that I never wear even though the fit is lovely. Not sure why. I enjoyed this one very much.
As always, I enjoyed your latest video. I love the plaid jacket that pulls the blue from the denim! I recently purchased my first denim skirt in many years. I went with a dark blue, knee-length. Like you, I struggled with the midi length. I found my silk blouses work best with my skirt, with a sweater tied over my shoulders. I have block-heeled 2" Mary Janes and 1.5" chunky loafers that work with the shorter length. I think a nice handbag is crucial with mine. Thank you for showing something so challenging to style!
I've had two dark denim midi / pencil skirts for ages and love their versatility, however I tend to keep them casual. My black leather biker jacket looks good with them. Loved the elevating black blazer with the skirt and will be trying that now! 👌
Finally, a beautiful, and fashionable way to wear Maryjanes. I don't like them! But, with opaque stockings, they really do chick. Thank you so much for styling this skirt. I have one, and you've just given me more ideas on how to styling them. Je vous apprécie.

Love the high heel boots, turtleneck m the blazer, Chanel coat the best. So happy to see you up and running again ❤❤❤❤
Salut Marie-Anne. J’adore ton style! La pièce de Luisa Spagnoli et le trench coat de Mango te vont formidablement! Greetings from Montreal ❤
I love the Jean skirt on you!!
I love my midi denim skirt. Modest and feminine. Thankyou
Great video Marie-Anne, one of the best i've ever seen because we can see not only what is beautiful but also what is not!! I would like more videos like that, please. Makes me understand more...
The right shoes for a skirt or dress is also very important. I love your blasers!! Mostly the last one!!
Looks like a modelling session for Marshall Wards circa 1980👍🏻
Thank you for this, denim skirts have long been a favourite of mine. After watching your video, I found one on eBay which is absolutely perfect. I already have a grey and a navy turtleneck, so I'm looking forward to trying these looks. xx Pauline
Grazie.
I love the outfit with the boots but I can’t wear high heels anymore. You look wonderful in this outfit.
If you can't wear heels watch this Kimberely ua-cam.com/video/3nCJhlWchFQ/v-deo.html
That shot if before I'd finished!! My favourites are 1 and 2. But naybe not for over 70's I do wear blue denim jeans though with sweaters love it.xx
I love your denim skirt and keep on wearing it also, have a great week
As always, I enjoyed your latest video. I love the plaid jacket that pulls the blue from the denim! I recently purchased my first denim skirt in many years. I went with a dark blue, knee-length. Like you, I struggled with the midi length. I found my silk blouses work best with my skirt, with a sweater tied over my shoulders. I have block-heeled 2" Mary Janes and 1.5" chunky loafers that work with the shorter length. I think a nice handbag is crucial with mine. Thank you for showing something so challenging to style!
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Have you tried that LilySilk navy vest with the skirt? I may try it with my skirt.
Hi ladies please don't forget to like the video. Have a great week.
I've had two dark denim midi / pencil skirts for ages and love their versatility, however I tend to keep them casual. My black leather biker jacket looks good with them. Loved the elevating black blazer with the skirt and will be trying that now! 👌
Thank you for this video! I have been trying to figure out how to style one nicely for some time now.
Hi marie-anne. Great video, good tips there. A very happy new year to you and yours and so glad your much better now. Jayne xx
Finally, a beautiful, and fashionable way to wear Maryjanes. I don't like them! But, with opaque stockings, they really do chick. Thank you so much for styling this skirt. I have one, and you've just given me more ideas on how to styling them. Je vous apprécie.
Only you could make a denim skirt chic👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Inspiring!
Nice to have you back❤ you look so good in denim skirt. Denim skirt have never worked for me. Maybe it’s time to try again 🙈
Wow and wow! Sensible and practical advice.
I think you rocked the denim skirt!!
Hey French Girl😊 I Love the Combo with the leather coat from Mango. I Like the leather structure and IT does Look edgy to me with the more Casual Maxi Denim skirt that I own right now a good bargain. Ilove IT. Moreover the Blazer IS definetely your Favorite one. IT dies Look very formal to me but IT IS an inspiring Idea to be formal and elegant and a Kind of effortless at the Same time. Looking Forward to watching and listening more of your content. Take Care, Helen
Bonjour Helen 👋 and a Big French Chic Welcome to you 😘
Am glad I caught this video as found it very informative. (Thank you!) As to the garments you showed would you have a link to the last (plaid) jacket you wore as could see it working with so many other pieces as well.
