I was just thinking about playing with this project again, it's one of my favorites! They really like when I take my bubble stuff out to cider mills. They work best this time of year in cooler weather. If you're in a hot climate it can work really well in the middle of the night or early morning.

Did a bit of research on the longest lasting soap bubble (108 days in a chamber full of chilled purified air). That record has been set in the late 1800s - early 1900s by one Sir James Dewar, same guy who invented the thermos. His soap solution consisted of 2% olive oil mixed with ammonium-based, 30% glycerine soap in water. Do you think it is possible to beat that record using modern materials? J-lube is basically sucrose with polyethylene glycol, the latter being a high-tension liquid. Is it better than glycerine?

Instead of making floating giant bubbles, can you try to make standing bubbles on a flat surface? The kind that you can make on a plate with a straw, but to a much bigger scale.
How big can such bubbles be?
If the bubbles are big enough, can you try entering and exit without exploding them?

I saw a demonstration when I was a kid.... the guy had 2 big metal wash basins filled with bubble solution, he placed a short stool in the middle of each one, then had a kid stand on each stool. Then using a big bubble wand he pulled a bubble up from one wash basin, over the 1st kid, through the air, down over the 2nd kid, and connected to the 2nd wash basin. The bubble only lasted a few seconds but it was really cool to see.

You should hinge the 2 sticks at your end (the base) to keep the ropes aligned so they don't miss & break the bubble.

If you are on the west coast of the US, you don't need a smoke machine to make smoke bubbles! It's sooooo smokey here. The AQI is over 300 in some places.

Idea: Could you make bubbles that floats forever? Or at least make bubbles that is falling more slowly compared to other bubbles? Idk if that's possible or not.

Try to make a big bubble vertically.
Fan pointing up and a spring mechanism that pulls on the rope inside a bucket.

To thicken your bubbles and increase surface tension you can just use glycerin. Available in any supermarket or pharmacy.
