It would definitely be an extension from Sydney/Melbourne rather than direct and it would only be to Auckland. They haven't even resumed flights to LA and SFO yet so I would say NZ is very far away. Singapore Airlines is definitely the best option for NZ, they fly direct from CHC and AKL and even extended from AU to Wellington for quite some time which unfortunately ended amid the pandemic.
