Your guys are really good at explaining things. You need to develop an intermediate or expert line of videos for those of us who are sick of watching beginner vids everywhere. Just a thought... Love you guys
I did Ancestry DNA, 23 & Me, and My Heritage. My father was adopted and I found his half siblings on his father's side on both Ancestry and 23 & Me. I have many other close matches on Ancestry and 23, though I'm still trying to figure out who his mother is. My closest match on My Heritage was 85 cM (3rd to 4th cousin) and the top three MH matches were also on my 23 & Me list. The ethnicity estimate on My Heritage was way off to the point that I thought they'd swapped my kit with someone else. Personally I wasn't happy with My Heritage due to the lack of accuracy and the very few matches I have on their database.
Lack of matches has to do with database size (MyHeritage is about 1/3 the size of 23andMe) and whether your cousins have tested on that site (which you have no control over).
Last year I did a My Heritage DNA Test. The result for me showed 32% Iberian, 24% Greek and 13% West Asian on my mother's side. On my father's side my ancestry is 26% Scandinavian. The remaining 5% is Middle Eastern.
My daughter in law did the transfer from 23andme to Myheritage, she had 3 matches, 24 now. Myheritage seems pretty good, the down side is paying an entire year subscription to do an hour of research.
That's probably because MyHeritage added genetic groups and changed their website since I rolled out this video. That's how fast everything is changing. In any case, check out this video about genetic groups ua-cam.com/video/PLoONLU01Dc/v-deo.html
I watch your videos a lot and find them very helpful :) I transferred my results to MyHeritage from Ancestry and it changed a ton! I have no idea which one is more accurate, MyHeritage seems more detailed in European countries but I find it very odd that I received 23.8% Eastern European since it didn't show up on my Ancestry results. I also got a high percentage of Scandinavian and I only got 4% on Ancestry. If you have time please took a look at the drastic differences in my results and let me know your thoughts or opinions on why it changed so drastically. Ancestry: 62% England, Wales, & NW Europe / 4% Norway / 1% Portugal 2% Native American / 1% South Asian 30% Cameroon/Congo, Mali, Benin/Togo MyHeritage: 38.4% Scandinavian / 5.2% North and West Europe /23.8% Balkan 18.9% Nigerian / 8.2% East African 4.1% Central and South America- Mesoamerican & Andean 1.4% Middle Eastern
Each company uses a difference reference population and different algorithms for determining ethnicity. It would be truly amazing if two companies independently came up with the same results.
Haplogroups are useful for a very specific genealogy question. Since GEDmatch is about autosomal DNA, I don't see any reason for them to add haplogroup tools.
Hi. Really interesting video - thanks. One question - I have DNA results from a My Heritage test which show my principle ethnicity as being Scottish, Irish, Welsh and 0% being English. My main Genetic Groups are from England. I know for multiple generations my maternal and paternal ancestors were born and lived in England, as do I, so I am extremely surprised that I am ethnically 0% English! Could you explain why that might be? I am a little confused between 'ethnicity' and 'genetic groups'. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Initially, I would say blame reference populations ua-cam.com/video/ScZtHuU78n4/v-deo.html. Instead, I would review your family tree and compare that with your DNA matches. Something might not be what you're expecting. If that isn't the case, then maybe your English DNA is not showing up in the reference populations. That's where I'm at right now.
Is there any difference in your match lists for those various tests you have with myheritage? Was wondering if doing the test directly with myheritage could get you additional matches vs uploading your test from Ancestry.

Hi could you tell me please why one of my matches on myheritage doesn't show up my mother or sons as matches to them but yet Gedmatch confirms they are? Thanks. :)
Look at shared SNPs for shared segments. GED match does not sort these out unlike MyHeritage and FTDNA. If below 700 dna matches there are false. This certainly solved some fake 'mystery' matches who happened to not appear on Ancestry simply because they were low SNP segments on GED match!
@@mmcc87475 pretty much, but SNPs on any given segment, not shared matches. To see SNPs you need to open up a detailed comparison between 2 people - that will show you the said info. If the SNPs are above 700 in your case, then there are other possible reasons why you see missing results. MyHeritage does not even bother low SNPs (you will not see matches with SNPs lower than 700) so probably GEDmatch shows at least 700 for your possible relatives that do not show for your mom. Keep in mind that it is still possible to have identical by state matches with SNPs over 700 on myheritage. Not all 'relatives' on myheritage or other companies are real. I do not count segments less than 7cM (GEDmatch does not by default as well). For absolutely real matches look for >15cM size of segments. How close are these is another question.
@@FamilyHistoryFanatics I don't know...I wasn't watching the timer so I can't tell you at that point--just what you were talking about at the time it froze.

We try to add in some more advanced topics every now and then, although, the more advanced topics usually make for longer videos.
I truly enjoy your videos. They are so helpful. Thanks.

I don't seem to have "show events from your family tree" on the My Heritage screen.

Hi Andy - how did you add yourself as a DNA match to compare with your own DNA results?
I uploaded from other companies to MyHeritage. Then I added myself to my family tree multiple times and attached each DNA kit to a copy of me.

Hi! What do you think of haplogroups? plan to add it nalysis to the GEDmatch?
Haplogroups are useful for a very specific genealogy question. Since GEDmatch is about autosomal DNA, I don't see any reason for them to add haplogroup tools.
What is the timeframe for the ethnicities- where my ancestors were 500 years ago?
One question : If I spilled some of liquid outside in one of the vials , it affects a lot the results or not?

Error.

For closely related people, no, there isn't any substantial difference (slight variations in the amount of shared DNA).
So again : why do I match with someone by one segment which is above 35 or 40cM but we don’t have any of the same ethnicities ??
micheal richards 8x ?
Because you don't match on the other 7450 cM of DNA. 35cm is about 0.5% so only 0.5% of your ethnicity needs to be the same.

Is there a Chromosome Browser?
Hi could you tell me please why one of my matches on myheritage doesn't show up my mother or sons as matches to them but yet Gedmatch confirms they are? Thanks. :)
Different algorithms can produce different results. This is why it is important to get into all of the databases.
