You are so talented and smart and explain everything you do (or how it's done) it's so GREAT to watch you. Thank you for what you do, explain how to do it and the videos. Keep up the videos, please.
@tonedeaf5581 obviously not a long-time viewer of this channel. The sandal comments are a joke. Brad's legendary "safety sandals," "Jesus sandals," or whatever else we want to call them are his calling card signature "egg plants" in nearly every video. Of course, there's always the chance you knew this & made you ridiculous comment for another reason, but either way, congratulations, you're definitely getting in his next viewers comment video.
Well explained! Details easy to follow with out BS! Thanks! Just how do you join corners together/ MESH them?! ..🙏✅✅🙏. NO one show HOW close up in and out to join couners!!
You would think all these folks hollering about the use of screws, lack of felt, tyvek, and drip edge would see the other 327 comments asking the same questions and relax. 😂 You did a great job. None of those things are a big deal for a shed, people. 🤷
Using Nails are cheaper, faster, and stronger (unless you used structural screws) but harder to correct any mistakes. Felt paper and house wrap would have been best practice. Also, PVC facia would last longer. However, it’s your shed and everything you did was perfect for a shed. I enjoyed the video ….looks great.
Excellent video and great looking shed. I built an 8x8’ one a few years ago, but not as fancy as yours. I used nail guns for all the framing though since I thought nails were cheaper, stronger, and faster?
I've always understood it not as a preference and more that screws for framing are simply wrong, but I'm not a framer so I only figure its correct since nails have alot more flexibility and don't shear off or snap like s screw does so nails will allow some movement. I also understand this is just a shed but why wasn't a house wrap like Tyvex (understandably less important) or a roofing tar paper used?
Terrific job on that shed! I would have put waterproofing between the vinyl & the plywood. Also, I am curious as to whether or not you had to get a permit to build that shed? Where I live you need a permit for any enclosed structure larger than 8'x10'.
Good work on the windows. Real pro descriptions of how to do it. I have never installed siding and probably never will (It'sArizona we stucco everything) but again, explained how by someone who knows how to do it. Yup, about a million, that's what I estimated. You are good. If you weren't doing this, you could be a valuable employee for some other tech. co.
For any leftover "J" channel, buy a cheap 2x2 box fan and put a channel on either side. Pick up a filter about 24" x 24" and you have a very effective air filter for the shop. I put mine in the middle of the shop, set to high, put on a mask, then use the air compressor to blow the dust off of the lights and horizontal surfaces. After 10 minutes take the fan outside and blow the dust off of the filter and you are ready for the next clean up. Yes, I have a good dust collection system but I still end up with dust in the shop.
Yes you are correct. There were many cost cutting things I did on this vs a real house. It will be just fine though as I had zero issues when I built a similar shed 10 years ago.
before building codes, or people were really aware of how things were done in other parts of the country, one place did not use bird mouth. They nailed a 2x4 on the outside of the studs, and a 2x4 on the inside of the 2x4, and the two were butted against the roof rafters, and nailed at both locations, basically locking the rafter from flying off. That gave two connections to the rafter. No roof ever blew off, etc. So, funny enough, now, we do things by code, and somewhat the same across the country. But the old method, gives you a 2x4 width to extend below the deck of the shed. And also if you looked at train stations, you'd find that lots were built this way, with an outside extended overhang.
First off, looks great man. I get it’s a shed but the biggest thing I would have done differently was install the roof sheathing lengthwise. This is mainly for structural integrity. Could cause your roof to sink in between the rafters with the direction you installed them. Just my two cents
That looks awesome! I'm looking to build one, I have a few questions. Do you have to build on a concrete Slab, If so what is the difference from not building on a Slab? Also how far away from the fence did you build? Thank you!
You don’t have to plenty of ppl use concrete blocks on the ground and build 2x6 or 2x8 frame to sit on. He did tho and did build on the slab hence the bolts he put in
Came here to say that. Screws have great tinsel strength but no shear strength. That's why nails are predominant in framing. Outdoor rated screws have some shear strength but not comparable to nails.
Idk if its my ocd but wouldn't you want to keep the plywood off the concrete since it can wick water up and over time create rot on the siding? I know that may seem so extreme but I am curious as I am planning to build my shed and wanted to know if that is an actual concern or am I just over thinking it?
The concrete sticks out of the ground 4 inches so basically is never wet. The shed isn't sealed or insulated so plenty of airflow to dry out anything that does get wet
You go through putting the starter strip down, but it's backwards. The starter strip should have been put down closest to the edge, not up by the ridge line. That way it will keep the first true row of shingles glued down at the edge. @@DIYBuilds
I would love to build a little cabin on a back corner of my property so I can play little house on the prairie. Just kidding I would fill it with vintage toys so my wife doesn't leave me.
Yeah. Me too. Also no sealant tape around doors and windows. Fear this shed is going to have moisture issues. Especially after such great work on rest of shed. Saving a few bucks won’t pan out in the long run.
In 5 to 10 years this shed will need some plywood replaced, roofing repairs and probably some frame repairs. Water damage will be the cause. A simple moisture barrier would have extended the life of this shed an extra 15 to 25 years. Apart from those, shed has great workmanship and looks amazing.
It's a shed. It doesn't have house wrap or eavs troughs or facia or insulation either. Add as many elements as you want but at the end of the day this method is tried and true over 25 years to not fail other than replacing the shingles after there designed lifetime.
@@DIYBuilds That's what I figured. In my part of TX vinyl siding is rare as it's not approved by code in most city's. Here you have to have 60-75% masonry. it looks good but needs more waterproofing. need to wrap the edges of your plywood that are down on the concrete keep water from wicking up it. You need to do a house wrap a roof wrap. Also where's the king studs for your door and windows? Why did you blame the concrete guys for it not being square or was that a joke?
Those things are optional. I know because I built the same shed 10 years ago and has zero water damage. As for the concrete yes I did blame them because they made the corner with the conduit in it 2 inches higher than the other 3 corners throwing everything off.
@@DIYBuilds I look at it as if I'm going to spend all that money to build it, I might as well do it right the first time that way im not dealing with headaches later on. For anyone looking to do this, it’s recommended to add an underlayerment before adding the shingles.

Exactly. This shed was built from experience since I did the same build 12 years ago at my old house and it's 100% fine.

Can't tell what he used specifically, but they do make structurally rated screws. Expensive, but convenient.
If you have an issue with sheer strength of your fasters, your shed really has bigger issues.
It's a shed, what shear pressure? Snow weight? Lmao lmao. Your right, but I don't think it applies to a shed as much as a house...
This is a single story shed, framers typically build houses 😂😂 We get it though, you’re a smart cookie.

That's a fine looking shed. Those PDF plans sure leave a lot to the imagination. Is there really only 3 pages?
Yes because the shed is 10 by 16 with 8 foot high walls. Studs 16" on center. The "plans" are a guide to go along with the video.
Good job👍
One way to help your project last as long as possible is to mix your won borate spray to prevent termites if those are a problem in your area.
I tried the Canadian flip work shoe and got a black & blue toe for my effort...😮
Why no jack studs for the door rough opening? 7:00
It's only a 36" opening. Add them if you want. But it will be just fine with the double top plate.
