i love the old concert clip of Billie Joe getting passed a note from an audience member on stage that requests Rotting, Billie says "nobody knows that song," and plays a riff from Desensitized
Appreciate this video Jon. Shenanigans is a fun, criminally underrated ride. So many of these songs more people need to know. I truly think if more causal fans or anyone that isn’t familiar with Green Day heard this record they’d have a new found respect n adoration. The rating of this record is fair. Great job! Thanks for giving it some love. Desensitized is one of my favorite songs of theirs. Sick of Me, Suffocate n Do Da Da are honorable mentions.
Highly, severely, and always overlooked. It’s honestly in my top 5 GD albums. I remember buying it the day it came out and loving it. Desensitized is still one of my favorite tracks of theirs.
I am thankful Green Day made such a awesome compilation of some of their b-sides. One of my favorite bands is The Offspring, and a bunch of their b-sides were stuck to those original single releases or in some cases only on the movie soundtrack, like their AFI cover. Happy Hour was released in Japan kinda as a b-side collection but omitted a bunch of tracks still, like a Ramones cover thats only on the 'Why Don't You Get A Job' single, or their cover of The Damned 'Smash It Up' which is only on the Batman Forever movie soundtrack and the All I Want single release. So compilations like this are always appreciated to have more of these tracks all in one release.
My all time personal favorite GD b-side has to be "Lights Out" from the Know Your Enemy Maxi CD. I first heard it as a bonus track to 21CB, and I was blown away by it! This was 2009, when the CD single format was starting to die. Had they not have released the KYE CD, we probably would not have gotten that track! Maybe GD can do a Shenanigans sequel someday. Give an opportunity to unearth some more obscure and even unreleased tracks.
Great video, Do Da Da is my favourite off this album but nobody else seems to like it. Blows my mind that they were recording things like on the wagon in the Dookie era
When I was getting into Green Day around the American Idiot I was just looking for any of Green Days old albums in stores. I found this and didn't realize it was a b-sides/compilation album and bought it, and just fell in love with it. Suffocate is such a good opener andHa Ha You're Dead is still one of my top Green Day songs of all time.
I tried to get my band teacher to have us play Espionage for one of our concerts. I don't think he hated the song, but once he found out it was by Green Day he knew that was the only reason I wanted to play it.
@@andriyyurchyna8195 because they were having such bad tensions while making the tensions and they even said at one point that if they did release the album then it would’ve been their last. One of the main reasons they didn’t release the album was because they got over these tensions at the time and knew the album wasn’t gonna be successful.
I saw Blink and Green Day on the Pop Disaster Tour. Green Day’s set to this day is still the best live performance I’ve seen. They played 2 hours of just greatest hits since they had no studio album out. Incredible
it's a shame so many Green Day fans haven't listened to Shenanigans yet. Ha Ha You're Dead and Desensitized are some of my fav B-sides in their entire discography!
For a long time in my teens Shenanigans alongside Warning were my favourite Green Day content , to this day I still think both are criminally underrated. Do Da Da is such an underrated track as well 🙌
Nice! I really like this one. Has a really nice sound that’s just fun to listen to, strangely enough gives me some beach boys vibes often. I remember I discovered this and MxPx’s b-side album Let It Happen at the same time and came to the conclusion that hidden gems can really be some of the band’s best work. 4/5 as well for me. Great review
Still waiting for them to do a studio version of cigarettes and valentines. Such a good song. And yes they definitely were the best band on stage for the disaster tour. Blink is great, but Green Day should always be the headliner
Suffocate and Desensitized are the one to punch. To me, It has that energy they would go on to unleash in American Idiot. Who who would have thought in '97 they were ahead of the curve?
I thought they’d done a rotating headliner during the Pop Disaster tour? I know Pittsburgh had Saves the Day as the opener as well. But still a great album!!
NOT-SO-FUN-FACT: Other than a tease of Desensitized in 2000 & playing Outsider at CBGB's in 2001, NONE of the songs on Shenanigans have been played live in full by Green Day.
If Shenanigans was a proper album it would be in my top 5 GD albums ive listened to it more than almost any other GD album in the last 20+ years aside from maybe Nimrod or Dookie

Ha Ha You're Dead! is the best track by a wide margin
@@joeyparkhill8751 it's up there, but I'd have to disagree
@@artvjonShenanigans is a great album. I'm just saying Ha! Ha! You're Dead is a step above, in my opinion.

This was honestly my favorite for a while. I’m stoked you talked about it!

Another solid review Jon 👍
In an alternate universe we got Cigarettes and Valentines instead of American Idiot.
I think I like this reality better
Then we wouldn’t have gotten the masterpiece that was American idiot and Green Day would be long gone.
@@Dutch_van_der_linde939 it would be a pity not to get AI but how would they be long gone? 90s green day was the peak and has everlasting influence

great you made a video about it
to me this is one of the best green day albums
my favorites are Desensitized, You Lied and Scumbag
Im digging this review style ❤
This will be a nice calm before the storm this weekend, before… Well.. You Know, THAT messy album coming up.
i just got done listening to it. dear lord if it isn't the tackiest and most uninspired album i've heard all year, idk what is 💀
This album was like buried treasure when I was eleven
Do Da Da actually is one of my favourites (Especially the bass line gives me goosebumps)
Suffocate and do da da are so catchy to me they were In my head for like a year. I love those songs
BASED ALBUM! Imagine there's a univere where this is the last GD album and they retired before American Idiot
I wouldn't want that world 😅
Bro what? American Idiot is a masterpiece.
They’d be the Marco Van Basten of bands
Ive always fucking loved Suffocate
Lol Do Da Da is fire man🔥
Totally true. I attended the Pop Disaster tour in 2002 and Green Day killed it! The crowd was already beat by the time Blink performed 😂
"You Loud" really sounds like it was recorded during the insomniac sessions. The bass really gives it away.
For a long time in my teens Shenanigans alongside Warning were my favourite Green Day content , to this day I still think both are criminally underrated. Do Da Da is such an underrated track as well 🙌
Rotting is one of Green Day's best songs

This should be a regular series.

Suffocate & Do Da Da still get burn on the regular over here 🔥
Still waiting for them to do a studio version of cigarettes and valentines. Such a good song.
And yes they definitely were the best band on stage for the disaster tour. Blink is great, but Green Day should always be the headliner
The story of Do Da Da is HILARIOUS 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Rotting has always been bottom 10 of any green day list I have ever made. Always impressed me when I hear people actually enjoy it hahaha
I think somewhere I read Do Da Da was meant to be the title for Stuck With Me on Insomniac but they got mixed up somehow.
Suffocate and Desensitized are the one to punch. To me, It has that energy they would go on to unleash in American Idiot. Who who would have thought in '97 they were ahead of the curve?
There’s bangers all across this like suffocate, you lied, espionage, I wanna be on tv, tired of waiting for you. It’s honestly pretty good
I thought they’d done a rotating headliner during the Pop Disaster tour? I know Pittsburgh had Saves the Day as the opener as well. But still a great album!!
I've always hoped they'd do a Shenanigans 2 at some point. I know they have a ton of songs that don't make it onto albums
Green Day is a great band
You Lied oddly enough sounds to me a lot like Hair from The Early November
Saturday...
NOT-SO-FUN-FACT: Other than a tease of Desensitized in 2000 & playing Outsider at CBGB's in 2001, NONE of the songs on Shenanigans have been played live in full by Green Day.
I always thought carpe Diem was similar sounding to suffocate
Next you need to review Pinhead gunpowders new album Unt!!
Dunno if Shenanigans is a masterpiece necessarily but boy does it start strong, Suffocate and Desensitized are how you start off any album
Warning and Shenanigans were the last albums i loved by Green Day
If Shenanigans was a proper album it would be in my top 5 GD albums ive listened to it more than almost any other GD album in the last 20+ years aside from maybe Nimrod or Dookie
It's got some bangers, but the majority of it does sound like B-sides.
Rotting and Ha Ha You’re Dead were some of the soundtrack songs to my early edgy years 😂
I LOVE SHENANIGANS
Haha your dead is a song everybody should sing along together in a pub too
It’s a good album.
Saves the Day was the opener... They were at the start of their downfall though.
They had row openers. The first leg of the tour was Jimmy Eat World and the last leg was Saves the Day.
hi
Ngl that pic of Billie in the thumbnail is sooo hot (im a guy)
Rotting g and you lied were recorded during insomniac sessions
Rotting!
I hate Green Day
What’s your thoughts on the new songs on the 20th anniversary of American idiot?
