Just ordered a pair of SE 8s, before watching your video though. I feel validated on my purchase. I plan to use them for a voice-piano recital setup. I hope I can do a good job, I don't have a lot experience with mixers. Thanks for the video and the good audio samples.
Thanks for watching, and we're glad you found it useful! The sE8's are a good set of mics. The other thing you can do is evaluate the other parts of your signal chain; the interface and DAW. You can always upgrade with music production and recording!
AT seem like having an emphasis at 2K instead se8 seem more linear in that region but have a nice small 8-10K boost that give a gentle sparkle and seem more true, with less distorsion
Been listening to a lot of stereo mic demonstrations using acoustic guitar. Your fresh approach had me sit up and take notice. The sound really drew me in. Who would of thought a novel change in microphone placement could result in communicating the performance more effectively?
The SE8s sounded wonderful on the acoustic guitar, I really liked the definition in the mid range, I tend to like to record most things without a hyped high end, I prefer to add a little sizzle with EQ and saturation in the mix to sweeten the sound if needed, I thought your new mic positions sounded very nice 😁
Hay the guitar sounds like the 1 in Avril Lavigne's Tomorrow. That's trak 7 on her LEt Go CD. Well could be a Blu Ray disk now as they re did it in 48 KHZ 24 bits HD. It's the track wher she sounds hot.

Thank you!
Thanks for this!!!
Great comparison. I really like both these mics. I think it would be good to have a pair of both for the versatility.
I want a pare of 4041s. They are the parent to the AT-8022 stereo mic. Which I have. What I do like of the SE8 is the 159 DB SPL.

Yes, nice stereo work. 👍
A thought: The AT4041 might be better on acoustic in a mix. I agreed with all your thoughts on the two.

But how can I trust your audio opinions when your commentary is 5 times louder than the rest of your video? HAHA!
sm7b now?
Yeah buddy! -David
Stay tuned for a studio upgrade video!
