SE8 is mellower. AT4041 more detailed, but also brighter. Both are great for different purposes.

just bought the se8 vintage and some omni capsules too, but im thinking i really really really want the 4041s after this

I think the sE are richer of sound. More detailed. I think for a song with a guitar as the base instrument those would be better, like finger picking. However for band recording with the acoustic as a rhythm I would say the AT4041.

Based on my listening to how a real-world guitar does sound, the AT4041 sounds very thin, maybe there is some bass roll-off at too high a frequency. I guess it could come down to positioning too, but the se8 sounds more natural of the two.

Interesting the AT 4041 samples seemed more delicate, less energy up top and gave me a more emotional feeling whereas the sE8 kinda bumped up the energy up top throughout and didn't give the same feeling.
