  • Get ready to experience the perfect blend of Japanese innovation and traditional artisanship with the Yamaha Revstar Pro RSP02T Electric Guitar. This guitar is a modern classic inspired by café racer motorcycles, stripped-down performance machines that reflect the personality of their riders. The new refreshed Revstar lineup was introduced in 2022 with a design that references classic Yamaha electric guitars going back to 1966. The chambered body is designed with Yamaha's Acoustic Design process to sculpt tone, reduce weight, and optimize balance. This guitar is equipped with chiming P90-style single-coils and the Focus Switch boost on Professional and Standard models, and the Dry Switch filter on Revstar Element, provide even greater versatility. Watch the review video now to see how Yamaha's Revstar Pro RSP02T stands out amongst the crowd.

I bought a p90 revstar this week (standard) and the other thing I love about the focus switch: If you have a clean sound, use the neck pickup and roll back tone/volume a bit and engage the focus switch, you have the perfect hollowbody Jazz tone. Smooth, woody beautiful! 😊

Yamaha is a top notch guitar builder (both acoustic and electric). Best value for the money is the Standard series. They are less than half the cost of the Pro and have the same components, with the exception of the added carbon fibre in the body of the Pro. The made in Japan Pro, however, is exceptional and also comes in a lovely hard shell case. Both the Standard and Pro have great fit and finish, though the Pro is one solid notch above. If money is less of an obstacle, the Pro will be a prized instrument and is a great choice. Value for money, the Standard is best. I now own a RSP02T (Pro) and it is amazing. Beautiful, flawless construction, versatile, comfortable. The P90s are crystal clear when played clean and have a lovely bite when driven. The focus switch works well with the P90s because it “thickens” the sound, akin to a humbucker. There are 10 useable sounds so the possibilities are endless. This guitar is as good as it gets.

Update to my story: I actually ordered two of these. The original one took 6 months to turn up. Because I was waiting so long, we passed through the Black Friday sales. I ordered a second one with a second retailer that as 15% cheaper. The original one arrived in early January 2020. It was as you'd expect a new guitat to be. I stupidly returned it this week in anticipation of the second one arriving. The second one arrived today. It had a chip on the neck and one the pickups was almost hanging off and had a number of marks on it. The retailer said they have no alternatives to swap it with, so I have to do a return. Rang the original shop, but they have already sold my original one in two days...
      Now i have none!

I recently bought a Pro version Revstar in sunset burst from Alamo. Mine has humbuckers, which are very articulate and not muddy at all. I have several high end boutique electric guitars from builders such as Grosh, Tuttle, Suhr, etc., and my Japanese-built Revstar holds its own when it comes to build quality. The bonus is that it comes at a much more consumer-friendly price point. Everything about this guitar has a quality feel, and the fit and finish are impeccable. The "focus" switch really doesn't do much for me, but I can overlook that. Supposedly the Element and Standard models are well built also, but I have no personal experience with either of those models. My suggestion is that if you can find one of these guitars and can afford it, you should buy it. To me it is one of the better bargains out there in high quality electric guitars. I assume that as they gain popularity the price will rise accordingly.

I think Jeff Schroeder of the Smashing Pumpkins is playing these, and despite him loving it, he says the stainless steel frets wear out his strings many multiple times faster than standard frets. And I know Billy Corgan is playing one of their new acoustics. People say it's one of the best acoustics they've ever played.

I just got a Wine Red P90 version of this guitar. Unreal guitar. My one complaint was scratchy frets out of the box. But that was easy enough to remedy. Also i dont know why the tip for the 5 way was black and the rest of the plastic is cream. But the electronics in this guitar are awesome. Mid boost and a 5 way switch for 2 P90s. I swear i finally heard for real the P90 potential after all these years with just a 3 way with P90s. More companies need to start doing this on their P90 guitars ;-)

Hi guys, loving your content. I started listening to Fretboard Confessionals as well (in the car, in the kitchen, at work 😂). I really like your knowledge and taste, and I thank you for the virtual companionship. Been playing guitar for almost 3 years now (I own a heavily modified hss strat that plays great and a GS Mini) and would love to have a second guitar with humbuckers (I mostly play on the neck position). Is the Revstar standard a good choice? Or would you suggest something else? (my budget is 1000$ max). I would like to go for that early FM Peter Green tone. Cheers from Bucharest ❤

Although I love classics like the Gibson Les Paul, Strat and Telacaster - my main guitar besides these axes is a Dansan Red Special - I was looking for a guitar that wasn't burdened with the baggage of history and had its own design and voice. I finally found what I was looking for with the Revstar Pro. Unfortunately, these guitars are still highly underrated because many guitarists are so stuck in their ways that they can no longer see beyond the classics. I am so taken with the Revstars that I bought them as Professional RSPO2T-Crisp Gold and Professional RSP02T-SSB Sunset (as a backup). Only the original pickups, although they sound great, I replaced with Lindy Fralin hum-canceling P90 pickups because they don't hum and give the guitar an extra touch of warmth. If you haven't considered a Revstar Pro yet, you're really missing out!
