Thank you for this video, just what I needed today, I’ve picked up my hexagon quilt again that I started about 40 years ago and I’m struggling to get the double shaped flowers I created to fit together so I’m going to unpick them into a single flower shape and use a spacer to make long rows. I don’t like unpicking my beautiful hand stitches that I used to do but it’s got to be done. 😊

Love this quilt. I think the yellow & blue fabric is Laura Ashley Sweetpea, probably dating from the 80's. I used to have some curtains made from it!
How large are the hexagons? This looks like a good size for a bed quilt
I made my first EPP quilt in the mid 80's. I think I started it in about '83 and completed it in '89, and I kept mine as a hexagon-ish shape. I had no pattern to follow, and there was no UA-cam to help me in those days (God, I sound old, don't I?) 😂😂 Sadly, it is long gone. I had 3 children who loved it to death! My fabric choices were very similar to the ones your lady used.
That sounds like a wonderful quilt that had a long life keeping everyone warm and comforted!
Its looking soo good! I was around in the 80's but not a quilter then. I think whatever finishing way you choose it will look beautiful.

I have always wanted to do a pp hexagon quilt but all the ones I have seen have tiny shapes and my arthritic hands just wouldn't last to do it. I love your larger pieces and wonder if I might have success with something larger. How big from point to point across the middle would you guess the size of each hexie is? Keep up the lovely work, You are a joy.

It’s so precious what you’re doing. So many tiny stitches that are stitched with love and so many thoughts that are produced as we stitch on our work. I am an 80s girl and when I started with hexi,s we were doing rectangles, but I think you should do what makes your heart sing you are the one saving this piece.

How many flowers does it take to make a quilt.
I am working on a hexi quilt as well and am wondering how to finish it off . Looking forward to your results. i love putting together hexigons.

I don't think I could sleep under a hexagon shaped quilt... Or it would take a lot of getting use to. If my current quilt gets crooked, it wakes me up and in the middle of the dark, I'm straightening it so that I'm in the middle. I slept in a round bed once and didn't sleep well at all. I have trouble with duvets as well. If I'm sleeping and I happen to grab just the cover and not everything to adjust... I wake up. I can't nap under a crochet afghan if the holes are too big (my fingers or toes get caught in the "weave") and it wakes me up. So I would definitely make it rectangular. But I might make the border green for the grass around the garden, or blue for the sky. 💖🌞🌵😷
The fabric looks nicely woven and of nice quality. I think it would cool to leave the finished quilt with hexi edges -- if it's big enough to get comfy under it! Thanks for another enjoyable video!
That is such a pretty quilt. I had quilters in my family in the 80’s and 90’s, but none of them made a hexagon quilt shaped quilt. Maybe that was more advanced than their skill level, though. I don’t think you could go wrong whether you keep the hexagon shape or not.
What a great project to have on hand. I love how you learned some thing new, the moment when you said you might try the hand basting as it seems to be more portable, and you may try working on larger hexagons.
I’m sure you will figure out what shape you will want at the end, I would if I was restoring and finishing the quilt, stay with what the original quilter was doing. It seems to me that you have stayed on this same path, based on you thread based the paper to fabric, you did not remove any loose thread, and you are using only the fabric that the original quilter had left. I am guessing the shape will end up as a hexagon.
It will be beautiful no matter what shape it ends up being.

I think I’d finish it off with straight sides if I was doing it for myself, because that feels most useful to me, but it would be adorable finished in the hexagon shape.

Binding it as a hexagon might be a nightmare.
I've done a few hexagon wall hangings and they were simple but I sewn the binding by hand but ill take that into consideration
@@stitchwithrachel, you can still make it rectangular, but with the jagged edges. But you do you. 💖🌞🌵😷

Thank you, i brought the leather thimble, it's by clover and I use a size medium. But with it being leather it does wear out so I tend to buy a new one every 6 months or so
