What’s really interesting to me is that I’ve apparently always had a Duchenne smile, but because I was also such a shy kid I would rarely smile that kind of smile for things like photographs. My mom would always say to me, “Oh, but why aren’t you smiling?” And I would say, “But I am!” Little did I know, she meant I have to smile my “real” smile 😊

I dunno why, but I feel like I just do this anyway. For me it was more confidence, when I lost weight I was able to be confident which led me to be happier and express more?
This what I think the smile boils down to. Channeling your own confidence (wherever it may come from) and actually let it fill your body with genuine joy/elation.
You're not necessarily faking the smile, just that you're bringing out the energy that requires a smile to _feel_ genuine, and thus would _look_ genuine outside to other people.
It depends on the person. Not many people practice their smile afaik, but many just by default look great doing it!
I want to gain weight I eat everything in the planet but I loose weight insted 😂

My Dad used to be a psych professor and used a picture of me genuinely smiling as an example of endorphins etc. I think this is also what he may have been doing. That was 30 years ago, yikes!

A while ago I couldn't smile properly. It wasn't an instinct because I never really felt happiness..
But since January, I often meet the most stunning woman I have ever known in my entire life, that instantly gives me the most honest and grateful happiness I ever had. And then she once said, after the confinement, "I missed you so much", which became the legendary moment of my life. She often says that my smile, looking at her, is exactly like what she felt the first time, and just for that, she always becomes happy when she sees me. Though I'm glad you confirmed what we both thought: that the best moment we could really smile, is the first time we met each other.

The Duchenne smile is perfect during all this mask wearing. I feel like I smile at people through my mask and then realize, "Oh yeah, I'm wearing a mask. They probably think I'm just starting at them like a psychopath." It would be nice to be able to show people a smile, when I can't actually show my smile in public. This is great. Thank you. 🙏

I learned this accidentally years ago when I discovered that when I got a these huge grins, while reading, my ears moved with the smile. So I not only learned to move my ears but in the process... learned how to control my smile. :)

Might you please do a video on how to text or have committed, more entertaining and balanced conversations online in contrary to very noncommital, short responses like "lol", "lmao" and make a conversation last more than 3 secs longer? Technically public speaking, but in text, and stuff. It's going to be so helpful to me for being able to boost up my relationships with people online and not seem like a half-assed freak.

It’s so funny that this has an actual name because I remember being bothered as a kid that my smile didn’t look genuine in pictures so whenever I laughed I just tried to remember what it felt like and then I would re create it in pictures and in life in general and it worked great! Learned this a long time ago and I always thought it was just my own little thing I worked on but nope! It’s a real thing for lots to work on! It really has helped my life be happier! Thanks David for another great video!

I'm just waiting for the Jacksepticeye reaction especially because his more recent content involves lots of laughter and smiling. Also I feel like you (David) are probably a big fan of Paul Ekman and his work on micro-expressions and facial cues (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong haha), which i find to be some of the most fascinating subject matter in Behavioral Psychology!

Duchenne Smile reminds me of Tyra Bank's "Smize" (shortened for "smiling eyes"). Although a smize she's usually pertaining to is the necessary ability/skill of professional models to *smile with just their eyes.*
