      Aside from your exhibition history, does your education matter? I am finishing an MA at the RCA in London and I wonder if that adds anything to the equation? Thanks. Great video.

    I always find your videos helpful, concise and professional. Straight to the point on this sculpture pricing. I make concrete sculptures cast from silicone molds, the reason being that I'd like to share my works with more people instead of one. Kind of egalitarian approach to art if you like. It is a fact that one-off sculpture from me would costs a lot due to the time I would need to pour in, say 3-4 month on each piece. How would you price this, an open edition sculpture? Or a piece may be limited to an edition of 100?

    • @contemporaryartissue
      @contemporaryartissue  3 місяці тому +1

      Hi there, thank you for tuning in and for a very interesting question. An open edition or an edition of 100 is, however, a lot, and you should opt to use the lowest end of your index range in that case. Instead, I would advise you to create multiple limited editions that are signed and numbered to increase the scarcity and uniqueness of every piece. By doing so, we can keep the prices low and accessible to more people, while maintaining some exclusivity. Wishing you the very best!

    Amazing, one question on the material - so the price of the sculpture for private sector - does it have any difference except material cost, if I am putting paper sculpture and epoxy sculpture or copper sculpture?
    In the dimension we count the overall space or if it's smoty inside I have to somehow do the measurement differently?

    • @contemporaryartissue
      @contemporaryartissue  3 місяці тому

      The materials will result in different production costs and, thus, a different final price. However, the artistic value remains roughly the same-I say 'roughly' because if the production costs and thus the risk becomes very high, then we opt to use a slightly higher index number. Concerning the mass density within the three dimensions, if there are very few, we go for a slightly lower personalized index number. If the three dimensions are entirely filled with material, then we use a slightly higher index number. These things are covered in the tool and online article as well. Hoping this might help, and thank you for tuning in!

    Wow this video is so insightful. Ive just found your channel a few days ago, Ive been doing some research about how to get into the art world from the crafting/hobby world and I found you, and im glad I did, you have opened my eyes and have given me something deep to think about, but I have a couple of questions, I dont do traditional art, like painting, or photography etc, Im a rhinestones artist moving to metal art, to be more specific I do tin art (metal embossing/tooling) by hand out of thin copper, and aluminum sheet and would also add some rhinestone embellishments as I see fit, My questions are... 1. would this be considered a sculpture? since the metal art is semi-3d or 2. Would it be considered 2d but with depth? After a piece is finished they come out to a thickness of about 1" or 25mm or 2.5cm and then they are filled with modeling paste to prevent them from collapsing if pressed, then I mount them in a in frame, that I metal leaf ( imitation gold leaf) myself, 3. Do I follow the 3d formula or 2d, Im thinking 3d since my work has some depth to it; like a piece im working on now it measures 8"x18"x1" (20.3cm x 45.7cm x 2.5cm) with a production cost of $25 or 23,04 euros, so as I understand the math correctly its 8+18+1=27+25(production cost)=52x2(hobby index cause im still new)=$104 or 95,84 euros, would that be correct? Anyway again thank you so much for your videos, you have made it easier for me to understand and be more comfortable in the art world. Again Thank you.

    Is this a wholesale or retail price? Eg is this the price you’re charging a gallery.? They’re doubling it, or whatever their markup is.

    • @dnlgrmn7169
      @dnlgrmn7169 3 місяці тому +1

      Whole sale or retail? Not sure what you referring to. Sculpture is a one piece art. Most time artists have their price, and the gallery add their commission on top of that. Unless other agreements have been made between artist and gallerists.

    • @contemporaryartissue
      @contemporaryartissue  3 місяці тому

      The price of your work should always be the same-regardless of the commission the gallery is taking. The price is not determined by how much you want or should earn but by its market value. Otherwise, juggling your prices can be something rather dangerous from an art market perspective and form an ethical perspective regarding respectful business behavior and best practices to foster long-term collaborations with collectors and dealers. The artwork is not twice as valuable when being shown in a gallery, so the collector should not have to pay double. And simultaneously, selling work directly at half of the price will devaluate your work or would make it impossible for galleries to engage in a long-term business relationship with you. The value of your art is not something fluid and elusive; it is something real, fixed, and determined by the art market itself. Make sure your prices align with the market and pursue a steady value, preferably with an upward trend in the long run.

    This calculous make sense for large scale simpler techiniques works.
    But for more laborious processes like embrodering or programable pieces dosent make much sense.

    • @contemporaryartissue
      @contemporaryartissue  3 місяці тому +2

      If the creative process is very time-consuming, the tool and article advise to opt for a higher index number within your range. Wishing you all the best!

    art is free form. everyone and anyone can perform art. Pricing art is same. It if figurative and abstractive. If Artist demands philosophically, mathematically and architecturally price his or her art then that is what the prices are.
