So why are you selling Topdon???
We recommend OEM tools for their unrivalled capabilities but, aftermarket tools can also play an important role in a technician’s toolkit due to their ease of use and versatility. While they may not offer all the solutions that an OEM tool provides, they can be an efficient option for certain tasks. Ultimately, we provide the best advice based on our knowledge and expertise, but the choice of which product fits your workshop, needs, and budget is yours to make.
I find people misuse diagnostics to add more on to a bill. You go to most garages and they want £85 to tell you there is a fault you booked it in for. Many can't interpret results as they think it will tell them which part to change. It Iden doesn't, it will show where a fault is and you still need to understand how that car works.
Main dealer wanted £3800 for diagnostics, a BCM, plus two headlights after diagnostics said there was a levelling error and AFL error.
They didn't test much. I resolved the fault by finding water had got in a connector and was shorting pins.
That was dried, then waterproofed and works fine.
Had the garage relied on diagnostics they would have thrown parts at the car, then probably lied when they realised what it was.
Some would admit it, others would keep the parts and sell them or do other jobs, some would get a refund. None would change them.
This is why you can't trust main dealers that pressure staff to meet sales targets.
Thank you for raising this issue. Misdiagnosis or a lack of thorough testing is a concern for both customers and workshops. Diagnostics are powerful tools, but they require expertise to interpret correctly. That’s why we prioritise providing not just tools but also training and support to help garages get it right the first time. Stories like yours remind us how critical this is for building trust in the industry
Sorry mate, me as a hobbyist and who loves to tinker with stuff has been priced out of the market, and I have no problem going to Ali Express to obtain tools that will do me a job and diagnose the issue withing seconds than paying main stealer £££££. Other people might not agree, however, if you are a professional that do this day in day out, yes, get something with a proper support and fully legit.
On the other note, car manufacturers and agricultural equipment manufacturers are very greedy when it comes to that and want to sell you a service, like heating seats in BMW on a monthly subscription or John Deer with right to repair issues. People would have to have rights to repair their own, but being priced out of it
Thank you for sharing your perspective. We completely understand the frustration with rising costs, especially for hobbyists who enjoy working on their own vehicles. While affordable tools can sometimes help with straightforward issues, professional tools come with support and updates that are invaluable for more complex repairs. Our goal at Maverick Diagnostics is to provide workshops and professionals with the right resources to ensure quality repairs, but we absolutely respect the ingenuity of hobbyists like yourself!
yea lets make it impossible to fix our own stuff even at the small shop level and plame it on china the darn software to tune my say modules or fuel tables should free free with my new f250 or any thing its my bloody truck but as a American with that attitude and supporter of right to repair all the stolen parts nonsense falles on deaf ears as the truth in that is minimal at best .swapping a door window head light or ? module should work with no issues at all but nooo!! lol but until the oem is forced to do that it will be a nightmare and money pit over a 35 usd part
Thanks for your feedback. Modern vehicles are certainly more complex, which can make repairs more challenging without the right tools or training. At Maverick Diagnostics, we specialise in helping independent workshops overcome these hurdles with OEM-level tools and support. While the right to repair is still evolving globally, we aim to bridge the gap and help keep repairs accessible. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to learn more about what we offer.
