From what I understand, Denis has always stated that he would only adapt up until Messiah and even then, would only return as long as the script he adapts is good enough. Yes, and no. It's also just reasonable for any studio, cash-hungry or not, to continue with a series like this. It's earning money, but also huge cachet, and the story is not done. Villeneuve would have been completely aware of this intention as well. We may see something quite good in 2027/8.
He specifically stated the script being good enough part for Messiah. He never intended on continuing after the Paul story. Denis has said multiple times that he was hesitant on even adapting messiah and he would want to leave after doing messiah. So him being “dropped” isn’t so much them kicking him out and more about him wanting to move to other projects, which is the better choice. If he’s stuck on dune forever, we won’t get another Arrival or Bladerunner 2049

I’m not religious at this point, but the Chronicles of Narnia were a huge part of my childhood and I love them to this day. I can’t imagine trying to remove them from their religious background, and Im not interested in watching an adaptation that does that (Voyage of the Dawn Treader 🤮). As much as I enjoyed Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Little Women, I just don’t trust these stories in today’s Hollywood, and I’m frankly so tired of adaptions. I think the only way I would even consider watching is if it’s an adaption of one of the other books that hasn’t been adapted yet, but even then, it’s not a strong possibility.
I adore Narnia, but I totally agree, it's almost impossible to bring to the screen. One of the MAJOR strengths of the books is HOW C. S. Lewis describes things. Unless the movie is truly genius, that's going to be lost in adaptation. Additionally, trying to do these stories without Christianity is like trying to take the flour and yeast out of bread. The stories just ARE Christian, might as well do something else if you're going to try avoiding that! I am writing this comment before finishing the video. I’m pretty sure that the Director of the Dune said years ago that he would only go up to Dune Messiah because after that, they get way more acid trippy and it would be harder to make those into comprehensible movies(I may be editorializing with the word comprehensible, I can’t actually remember if he said that)
Unfortunately, many people took that to mean that the rest of the book series just wouldn't be adapted at all. (Which many people were okay with, because not everyone likes the later books in the series anyway.) Maybe they'll be able to find someone with a passion/dedication/vision/whatever for the later books to match/equal/rival Denis' for the earlier books. If the world is lucky. Or maybe it'll bomb and they'll give up / quit after the fourth movie. But I personally suspect that Denis sticking around to work on adaptations that he wasn't as into the idea of working on[ as he was into working on adapting the earlier books] wouldn't have been any better of an alternative, either way.

Children of Dune needs to be 2-3 movies or a series. The scene where Leto III is "Killed" by the large cat, leave on that cliffhanger for the second part.
when I was in 4th grade we had to make a puppet of a main character for a book report project and I picked Tash, the demon god from the 5-7th books for Narnia. This was in Catholic school and I think my teacher expected Aslan idk. Anyways Greta Gerwig better give us Tash
I think it was announced since the first movie that Villeneuve is only doing a dilogy for the first book, then one for the second book, and that's it for him
@DanielGreeneReviews sounds like a good deal! Obviously there was no way they're not gonna try and continue it, especially while there's still source material available. I mean, the worst case is we get a flop of a first try to adapt those books. Then all we have to do is wait 40 years till they get it right again
@DanielGreeneReviews I think I saw an interview with Villeneuve where he specifically said he wants another director, with their own style, to continue the Dune story after his movies. Something along the lines of how he continued the Blade Runner story.
At first I was skeptical about the Ghost of Tsushima anime, cause that game draws so heavily from the Kurasawa style and I wasn't sure if an anime could capture that well. But for it to be directed by the same artist that directed "The Duel" makes me VERY excited to see it! Though the villain's weapon in that was....a bit over the top, to put it mildly, the direction was a stunning realization of the Kurasawa style adapted to the Star Wars universe!
Yeah, Narnia is my absolute favorite series of all time and I have low hopes for the show lol. If they alter it from the source material, they break what Narnia is. The movies already altered it as much as somebody possibly could with keeping the story and Lewis’ imagination for the story alive.
I thought I could quickly dip out after the first bit of news was what I was interested in. But then I saw what the LAST thing you were covering was and knew I had to stay for the whole thing.
Wait, didn't that interview just undermine his own point? If critics hated Madame Webb and Venom, but Venom succeeded "because fans loved it," what should we conclude about Madame Webb? Lol

As for Villeneuve, I get it - Messia completes the „never trust a hero myth“ arc, and seeing how he set up Chani in his adaptation, this seems to be the important part for him. Children is when the entire thing gets really whacky. I personally would love to see them getting to Godemperor though.
Don't really mind DV moving on from Dune after Messiah/Part Three. It just makes sense from the context of the series. DV can go make something else fresh that'll blow our minds.

Children of Dune should be split into two parts and be directed by Guillermo del Toro, God Emperor of Dune would be best as a mini series and should be directed by Wes Anderson. I'm not as certain about del Toro but Wes Anderson's God Emperor of Dune would be the perfect experience. Heretics, Chapterhouse, Hunters, and Sandworms would be perfect as a 4 season TV show. Prelude to Dune, Legends of Dune, and Great Schools of Dune would also make good TV shows (Great Schools is a sequel to Legends and Prophecy is a sequel to Great Schools I think that would work quite well.)
02:02 - 02:29 --> Whatever format it takes, I would love a Pantheon review from you! Though I am interested in your thoughts on Dandadan too, honestly ^_^ I'm just shamelessly prioritizing getting more eyes on Pantheon :D
I find it a bit funny that people are surprised they're going to try and adapt the other 4 books. When I watched Part 2 and saw how well it was received and did at the box office, it was obvious to me they were going to adapt the other books eventually. Denis Villeneuve has spoken many times his interest in a Messiah movie since press interviews of Part 1 and has mentioned his exit from the series with Messiah for the past year. My only hope is they get an auteur who possesses just as much of a cinematic voice as DV does and appreciated Frank Herbert's books as much as DV does. In a past interview for Dune Part 1, DV has mentioned how deeply he cherishes Guillermo Del Toro's opinions when he screened the raw cut of Part 1 to GDT, I personally think DV may vouch for GDT to take up the series after him. I mean, no better than the master of creature design in modern cinema to adapt Leto as a God Emperor sandworm, right?
Thanks for being so plugged in, and sharing your knowledge so regularly and generously! You're awesome. Also... I hate that you use "consume" to describe the process of experiencing a body of media! I get that there are multiple ways to experience a book other than reading words on pages. But you know, to consume is to destroy something and turn it into something else, leaving nothing but poo for the rest of the world (*ahem* like, maybe, some adaptations?). I don't know if it's a community-wide shift, but my response to that word in this context is quite negative. In all other ways I think your content is fun, informative, inclusive and charismatic. Again, thanks!
The Last of Us Season 2 release date was just the month of April, they didn’t give an exact date. That final splash screen was “Season II, April” not April 11. 16:16
I think Christopher Nolan would be one of the most ideal choices for adapting Dune after Denis. But I also think Alex Garland (Annihilation, Ex Machina, Civil War) could do a really good job picking up the reigns for Children of Dune.
Hey Daniel. Quick question -- how much do you read on a daily basis? I've always wondered how much time you need to dedicate to reading to have a channel like this one.
_Chronicles of Narnia_ will be... interesting for me. I grew up Christian and loving those books, but as I've gotten older the type of Christianity I follow has changed from what my parents taught me, and in that time I've come to feel differently about the _Narnia_ books, *especially* regarding Susan. I think anyone who's grown up with those books always comes back to the question of Susan, and all those little opinions C.S. Lewis stated as fact. But I do know that atheists can enjoy the series on its own merits and get a different message out of it. There was a bit that _Dimension 20_ DM Brennan Lee Mulligan talked about in _The Silver Chair_ where Puddleglum is making his speech to the Lady of the Green Kirtle, and the book is framing it like continuing faith regardless of proof but Brennan as a boy took it more like Death's monologue about fantasy in _The Hogfather,_ so there's potentially some themes in the books that could be drawn out into a different if slightly unfaithful interpretation.
Hey, I'm trying to collect the Dungeon Crawler Carl books in paperback, and you have the 1st book in paperback I believe. Would it be possible for me to buy it from you since its no longer being printed? They're extremely hard to find online. Please let me know if you can or cannot sell it.

Was waiting for the 10:30pm news drop to be Brandon Sanderson again. 😂
The Curious King version of Hyperion likely can’t be topped as my favorite special edition
The Last of Us Season 2 release date was just the month of April, they didn’t give an exact date. That final splash screen was “Season II, April” not April 11. 16:16
Please do DanDaDan :D
Hyperion Art looks fine as hell * - *
Daniel my dude, what in Ghost of Tsushima is Soulslike? 👀
"They also did it to Venom, but audiences loved Venom" - my friend you are _so close_ to getting it
Good Morning! Here for the spice.
I think Christopher Nolan would be one of the most ideal choices for adapting Dune after Denis. But I also think Alex Garland (Annihilation, Ex Machina, Civil War) could do a really good job picking up the reigns for Children of Dune.
I want both Dandadan AND Pantheon tho
Loved Dandadan!
2025 and the Goblin Horde is still alive 💪
Hey, is your profile picture Morbius - the dream lord?
the cradle book was the promised side stories as part of the kickestarer campaign for animating cradle
Pantheon plzzz🔥🔥
Maybe Dune 4 should bring in Benioff & Weiss to direct. Just so those two can continue to massacre everything we like.
Pantheon review please!!!!
pathenon is so good!!!
Hey, I'm trying to collect the Dungeon Crawler Carl books in paperback, and you have the 1st book in paperback I believe. Would it be possible for me to buy it from you since its no longer being printed? They're extremely hard to find online. Please let me know if you can or cannot sell it.
