    It's so crazy.. I went to school for 6 years to become a Speech Therapist and worked for a year before having a baby. I wanted to stay home so I decided to start my own channel just 5 months ago and subsequently, my own business! So far, both are gaining great momentum. Thanks so much for your great tips!! I will continue to hustle 🧡🧡

    Having money feeling awkward talking about it is like having a boyfriend who you feel awkward talking about in front of your friend that you know wants you to break up with him.... Talking to the friends that are happy for your relationship is easy though. Money carries so many similarities to relationships and is simply the way we choose to show and receive value. More value = more money (spent to show gratitude and received to accept gratitude). If we all opened up our eyes to see money is just the energy of gratitude and our relationship with it then it wouldn't be awkward anymore. I adore that you talk openly about money. Thank you!

      Do it Karl, you have to have fun doing it though, I started a channel 4 years ago and I kind of treated it as a chore, a shock one video went viral and now monetised so have picked it up again with the rule that I will only do it when it's fun and make videos about things I enjoy, not spending loads of time editing :) You just have to start, I was more worried about what people would think than that I wanted to do a channel

    Hi, Gillian.😊 I have been watching you for quite some time and really enjoy your videos like this. I would love to know how to charge for services without feeling the guilt that comes with it. I do so many things for people for free, even when they offer to pay me. It somehow seems wrong to charge them for my time or my efforts. I have held myself back from many potentially lucrative business endeavors because of it. Also, I would love to learn more about how you set up your backdrop and the thought process in how you film, edit, etc. Thank you for all of the encouraging content. Have a beautiful day!💕

    • @Scholarvine
      @Scholarvine 5 років тому +1

      Adventures with Amirah why would you feel guilty? I’m so confused. Aren’t you an expert at what you do? Didn’t you invest money or an enormous amount of time to learn the skills you have? Aren’t you helping them solve a serious problem? Does you doctor feel guilty for charging you? Does your car insurance company feel guilty for charging you? I’d advise that you tell people you run an actual business so they can understand the value of your services and the price tag it comes with. Also, stop looking to do things for friends, if you would do stuff for free, ask for referrals upfront and make the person aware of your standard prices so they don’t go telling the world that your services are for free.

    • @AdventureswithAmirah

      Thank you for the response, Peter. As a psychologist, I am aware that it may be more of a self-worth issue. It just seems so wrong, for example, to ask market value for something that I purchased for pennies on the dollar. Or to ask to get paid for things I can do for free. It's a mindset thing, more than anything.

    Gillian, you are absolutely right about money being a taboo topic. It is unfortunate that we stigmatize good words. Our sentences become minefields of political correctness. That’s unfortunate. Money is only a word represented by a piece of paper with a numerical value. It’s the fear of envy, and jealousy, that keeps us from speaking openly about money. I think of money as a form of energy. Money is fuel.
    I rejoice in your success as an influential UA-cam creator. I am grateful that you share your knowledge. You give your listeners a good value.

    Can you go back to basics? So when you had 2K subscribers - you can’t have made much money so what video topics would you choose? I do enjoy these videos but how did you get to this point? What did you do before to learn how to teach others? Thanks, Sally x

      Just to clarify, what experience did you have in ecommerce before you launched your own online course teaching others through the start up society?

    Yes. We need you to clearly and simply show us how a simple channel with couple hundreds of subscribers can start to generate a certain amount of money and how it can develop a growth of that stream in future? Best Regards Gillian.

    Great video and thanks for sharing - Are you using a circular light? You might like to get a diffuser to soften this as you can see the light circles in your eyes - just a suggestion

    I’m feeling inspired after watching. Since UA-cam drives the business to your membership program and courses, how much of your time as a % is devoted to YT creating new content and how much is maintaining and creating new content on the others?

    Great Gillian. I'm glad you're talking about money because it does help break down the "Wall of Awkwardness" for me. I can tell you're not bragging and I appreciate your straight-forwardness. Read on!

    Do you have a specific video about how many subscribers UA-cam requires you to have before they start paying you? So far that's the only thing holding be back from investing the time and energy to starting a channel. And a tutorial on how to sign up for affiliate marketing for Amazon and anything else.

    Can't agree more that we need to talk more about the things that we shouldn't be feeling awkward to talk about and so be able to help more people out in that way!

    I would like to see a video on how to set up personal consultations. My channel is about dyslexia, I tutor kids who have dyslexia, and I am also writing a book, but I have considered offering phone consultations to parents. I am not sure of the nuts and bolts of that, such as how a client pays for a session, etc.
