In this video, Joe Simonds from Salt Strong discusses his "go to" cooler for every situation, including the pros and cons of each cooler.
The overall message is that NO COOLER is always the best (and we can say that because we don't take cooler sponsors).
Coolers are just like fishing rods... you need multiple coolers and certain coolers are better for certain situations.
For instance, we keep a completely different cooler on our boat (to be used as a secondary platform/seat) than we do the day-to-day cooler that we use for quick trips, kayak and SUP fishing, etc.
Here are the top 5 coolers we are using this year (so far):
    Igloo cooler
    YETI cooler
    RTIC soft cooler
    Engel rod holder hard cooler
    Tourit soft cooler
Regarding the "name brand," the one thing we didn't cover was the value of having a company that backs up their product with amazing customer service and long-term usage. We've been fortunate to not have many major issues with any cooler purchase, but if we did, having a company that stands behind their product and replaces defective parts is a big deal.
We'd love to hear your feedback on what cooler company does that best.
Let us know in the comments.

Will never buy a Yeti. If you have stock in the company, now's the time to sell! I've had great success with the new Coleman marine coolers. A fraction of the price and keep ice for days.

This review was EXACTLY what I was looking for! I have a PELICAN MONACO DLX PEDAL BOAT and was wanting to put a small cooler in the back "middle compartment". I just finished reading about the ENGEL 19 COOLER/DRY BOX on the BassPro site. Based on the specs the size fits perfectly for length and width! I already own a YETI 65 -- for my CHEVY "EXPLOYER 🌎 COMPANY CONVERSION VAN". It is too large for my little micro fishing boat. I did, however, look at the YETI ROADIE, it would fit too but heavy and more dollars than I had hoped to spend. Then I saw the ENGEL WITH ROD HOLDERS and the low price tag !! That one really turned my head 🤗👍without breaking the ole 🐷bank !! So glad you showcased the ENGEL in your line up !! AWESOME!! THANKS 🥰.

I definitely believe you can never have enough coolers either. Good to know all this about coolers for each use.

I use an ozark trail 50 can tote as my catch bag. 5$ at walmart (normal price, no sale) holds a lot and so cheap it doesnt matter what happens to it

Recently I was in the market for a 20qt cooler that could keep ice for many days during an upcoming week long camping trip in desert 🌵. I picked up a Cabela’s 25qt cooler while in OR (no sales tax) after looking at the Yeti Roadie 20qt the week before at REI in another state. They were basically the same foot print for same regular price for camping in my micro van. The Cabela’s cooler seemed more stable from tipping over & there was still 20qt space inside after putting in 3 blue ice packs. Last weekend I took my niece to Joshua Tree NP (stayed in a motel just out of park because campgrounds had been booked full for months), & used the cooler every day there, and the long trip home. The cooler was rated for 5 days of ice. I prepped the cooler with other ice packs & frozen water bottles more than 48 hours before leaving. The blue Ice lasted 3+ days, but the frozen water bottles at bottom still had an ice core of 1”x4” after 7 days, and milk was still cold. So far I’m pleased, but the big test will be 3 camping trips, each 5 days long in January to different parts of the AZ desert 🐫.

Top of my list would probably be the Engel cooler. They add a lot of extras that are actually USEFUL to fisherman like the rod holders and live wells, pretty cool stuff. Plus from what I've seen they hold ice just as well as yeti and are durable. Then again if you have a $30 cooler you dont have to worry about it getting stolen haha. Well made reviews as always 👍

I have a Yeti 45 one of the 1st models. Great to stand on or sit on. Ice will stay longer if cooler pre cooled and products in it cool! Will last 2.5 days. For a day fishing trip the cheap coolers are great! Soft coolers are great to save on your back or u know what...

Most YETI's are made in sweat shops in the Phillipines. Remember that the next time you see a hillbilly proudly display a YETI sticker on his back window.

Yeti should fall every sportsman list. Today they make a statement against the 2nd amendment and tomorrow they join with PETA to say fishing is cruel. I don't care about their quality. I care what they stand for.
