Yes, she and k-9 are classic doctor who companions. She and Ace were my favorite classic companions (and K-9 of course - i've met his voice actor, he's also wonderful) Sadly, Liz Sladen passed away from cancer in 2011.
I’m binge watching your reactions right now, trying to catch up and I’m enjoying every minute of it. This is one of my favorite episodes not only because of the return of Sarah Jane Smith & K-9; but the Headmaster is played by Anthony Stewart Head from a “little” series called “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”; based off the movie of the same name. And, if you haven’t seen either, you should check them out.💜
Alot of people like you (and me at the time) who watched from 2005 onwards didn't know who Sarah Jane was, but the show does a great job of making you realise that she is a very important person to the Doctor and you feel for her, even in one 45 minute episode. Alot of people who watched Classic Doctor Who when it aired would say that she was their favourite companion. She joined in 1974 and left in 1977 so she was on the show for a long time. David Tennant said she was his companion growing up and getting to work with her was his fan boy dreams come true.
Here in the UK we used to tell peoples age by who was the first Doctor they watched, mine was Tom Baker from the 70s and Sarah Jane. I remember watching this episode when it first aired and screamed with joy when she appeared (and did a another one when K9 appeared lol) :)
Rest in peace, Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith). You will always be the high bar that other companions are measured against, and a true force of good o7
Everytime I see a Doctor who episode with Sarah Jane or revisit the Sarah Jane adventures I find myself with a big grin on my face just because of how brilliant and fantastic Elisabeth Sladen's acting was. She made my childhood with Sarah Jane adventures and I looked up to her so much ❤️ RIP Elisabeth Sladen ❤️ You are missed now and forever
The goodbye my Sarah Jane always gets me tearing up these days because the wonderful actress has really passed on it just makes that goodbye even more meaningful
Your assumptions about Sarah-Jane all correct she wasn't just a companion she was the longest running companion with the longest running doctor back at the height of Doctor Who's old popularity 50 years ago
That isn't correct though Tegan was a companion slightly longer than Sarah Jane was and while Jamie was on the show for a little less time in terms of years than either of them he actually appeared in more episodes than either. But yes Sarah Jane was a long-running popular companion that traveled with the 3rd and 4th Doctors back in the early to mid 70s.
@@zaphod2505 Also the Brigadier beats all three of them, Tegan, 63 episodes and 1981-1984, Sarah Jane, 81 episodes and 1973-1976, Jamie, 123 episodes and 1966-1969, the Brig, first appeared 1967, last appeared 1989, 133 episodes total. You could also add K-9 in there, 89 episodes, 1977-1981
I've always gone back and forth and whether or not the Brigadier should be considered a True Companion. Other than an odd short trip here and there He never really traveled with the doctor and of course the Doctor actually worked for the Brigadier but of course the show is called Doctor Who not Brigadier who. But then on the other hand the Brigadier appeared on screen with more versions of the doctor over a longer time period than anyone else. I get your point even if he shouldn't be considered true a companion you still can't dismiss him out right as his character was around a very long time and very important to the show.
Sarah Jane was a companion to both the Third and Fourth Doctors. Wonderful to see her again for those of us who grew up on classic Who. Both David Tenant and Matt Smith (the 11th Doctor) made cameo appearances in the Sarah Jane Adventures
Lis Sladen had a particularly good dynamic with the 4th Doctor, Tom Baker. Both are “scousers” (natives of Liverpool), and had amazing chemistry. A couple of stories of there’s I would recommend you watch to get a feel for them and the Classic era are Genesis of the Daleks and Pyramids of Mars. Also, David Tennant was a huge fan of the show as a kid, and grew up watching Sarah Jane Smith and the Doctor, so getting the chance to perform alongside Elisabeth Sladen was very much a dream come true. You can sense that particularly in their final farewell at the end. And again, The Sarah Jane Adventures is a wonderful show and we’ll worth watching. While it is aimed at a younger audience, the writing and performances are top notch, and they don’t talk down to their audience, as a lot of kids shows tend to do.
I guarantee somewhere down the line you will be checking out a few Sarah Jane classic episodes from the past. You definitely a fully fledged Doctor Who fan now Andres and I'm sure you will be curious to see more of her in the classic show and where she started from, most Doctor Who fans do :) xx
@@AndresElRey It was a terrible loss. Here's a 48 second spoiler-free clip of one of the earlier Doctors (Tom Baker) talking about it. Breaks my heart. She was deeply loved. ua-cam.com/video/_u5uC_Z1jmY/v-deo.html
I think you are right to avoid the Noel Clarke stuff. It's nice of you to address it but I'd just enjoy Mickey's great character and not think too much about the actor himself! You don't want that sort of thing to ruin the series 😊 great reaction as ever!!
A great episode and a wonderful reaction! Sarah Jane travelled with the 3rd and 4th Doctor in the 1970:s (Tennant is the 10th Doctor). Her spin off series is well worth watching, even though it's more a kids show. Torchwood isn't needed to be watched between series 2 and 3; it's a thing on it's own and could aswell be watched after you've finished the Doctor Who series. Another series from the same universe, The class, could also be watched after you've finished the main series.
I loved this ep when it first came out. I was still in school so if blew my mind. I had to eat more fries of course. I haven’t seen any of the old doctor who eps but they did a good job showing her and I felt the history and the emotion, even If I didn’t know the story behind it. Also so glad you addressed the stuff around that actor. You said what you needed to say and can move on with doctor who! I just appreciated the small comment.
Rose is written as a realistic teen character, she’s around 19/20 and she’s got these two men, one who is her boyfriend on earth and then this wonderful man who whisks her off to time and space who she’s slowly falling in love with. She’s not perfect so she’s stringing Mickey along a bit but at the same time Mickeys just as bad for sort of lap dogging around her. She doesn’t want to hurt his feeling by dumping him despite the fact she’s probably hurting him more by having him around. They’re both a bit weak in their approach to their relationship with each other but I like that as it’s real, it’s not all fairytale and perfect
Welcome to Sarah Jane and K9!! I love Sarah Jane so much shes one of my faves! Yes she was in classic who quite a bit and this episode was actually the birth of Sarah Jane adventures (I'm sure anyway) and its such a good show. Its aimed more to kids but its still amazing! Also about Rose, she's very realistically written as a teen for me, I'm the same age as her and I honestly get her mindset I get why she acts the way she does. At this age you're very emotionally attached to people and sometimes you don't realise you string people along and you know teens is a very messy time 😭 but I totally get why she was paranoid at the fact of getting dropped and why she thought she was the first aboard the tardis because the doctor never mentioned it to her before so she doesn't know any better. I honestly think the reason she doesn't dump mickey is because she doesn't want to hurt him but at the same time its hurting him being with her, he's honestly just as weak because like I mentioned before he is very dependant on her like a lap dog and that can be very problematic. He's also a family friend and that can be a very hard situation to get out of. I think at this point she realises she's falling in love with the doctor and is very confused at what to do because she doesn't want to hurt anyone around her. People say this makes her immature and unlikeable but this is a very natural thing. Sure it hurts for both her and mickey but that is literally life. Plenty of teens have been there, plenty of teens get jealous (hey i get jealous we've all been jealous) its okay to dislike Rose of course but at the same time we can't always pin this mickey stuff against her. I see where she's coming from honestly. I hope this all makes sense ahahaha. I feel very passionate about her and the doctors relationship so I admit I get defensive of her character because she's one of my comfort characters but my girlfriend has started watching this show and is on season 2 and she also completely gets why Rose acts the way she does. Great reaction as always, I love watching you react to this show and you enjoying it!!
She was fantastic, if you want to watch a cute 4 mins for fun and yourself, this is her departure. No story spoilers, not even for classic. Just the end of a story she was miffed or had a rough time making her threaten to leave, it's been a while don't remember clearly. If nothing else it's worth seeing her fabulous outfit. :) ua-cam.com/video/VRzNUNESH04/v-deo.html
I love Rose and I think of her as being really passionate young human who isn't flawless; because of that; I do wish they elaborated more on her dynamic with Mickey to make it more clear because it IS confusing at times to understand as the audience it feels like I missed a whole conversation.
I know you've said you won;'t do Torchwood AND Doctor Who at the same time, but I do think it works better if you alternate. There's a couple of spoilers that you'll get from one to the other if you do them out of the correct order. Depends how bothered you are about spoilers. Love School Reunion episode so much ! :)
Sarah Jane reckoned the best companion ever. Her spinoff was aimed at a younger audience whereas Torchwood is for adults. There was also a 3rd called Class at the time of the 12th Doctor but only lasted 1 season. Sadly Elizabeth Sladen died of cancer some years ago but they are all great fun and worth the effort.
I honestly can’t stop laughing when there’s some dramatic scene going on and you’re there dancing to the music. Like at 4:34 XD. Absolutely love your reactions. If you’re interested, you could watch the Sarah Jane adventures. It is more aimed towards children but the stories still hold up quite well and are still brilliant in my opinion. Perhaps just the first episode? Just to tempt you...
sarah Jane adventures, as fun as they are for building on the "whoniverse" i wouldnt react to a show that was made to target young kids, personally. even if there are call backs and crossovers, including Jo Grant.
I think theres a few episodes that are very much aimed at kids, especially in the first season, but there are some great episodes! I went back and watched them all last year and was pleasantly surprised I didnt find myself cringing😅 but i think its definitely worth watching!
