Love the vids. But clearly a bunch of people don't actually hear words in the video. Clearly a chunk of viewers did not hear you state the person you brought the fish from verified the pond would be the same temp as what he or she holds them in. Second one person didn't hear that you mentioned the particular breed of carp on breeds in streams. Also you probably already have crawfish in the pond. Over here we have yabbis and they will travel over land etc to get to the right water area.

Some crayfish are self cloning. So it can really take only one to start a population. I don’t care what anyone says, you shouldn’t stock Asian carp. Ask the Mississippi River about them or the Great Lakes

Any reliable source of info on invasive species and Asian carp will tell you that you shouldn’t release them into the wild under any circumstances. If there’s flooding you’ll have carp getting into waterways that they will breed in.

The crawfish are probably already in the pond. They don’t take over the ecosystem. They provide food and cleaning abilities for the pond. Big bass and other larger fish eat them too, so they are a good thing to have. They keep the small bait fish and dead things in check too. 🦞😄

I usually add about 60 pounds of them to a good size pond, they feed my bullfrogs, predator fish like bass and catfish, and of course me. they dont necessarily take over and they are delicious to eat if they ever do become a problem. They also eat alot of grass and dead fish or animals so they are an all around good thing

It was a bit surreal seeing so many fish just streaming out from those buckets into the pond, haha! And you got a bonus critter too!
As somebody who's kept fish for 12 years now, I will say just a couple things.
Take out any dead fish from the initial die-off after transfer. In my experience they typically don't get eaten and sometimes carry illness so they shouldn't be eaten by other fish. Often the smell can attract predators too.
I would highly recommend a small air pump for Dolly's water trough. It will keep the water's oxygen high and the chance of mosquitos, damselflys, and other insects trying to breed in it lower. Might even want to try a simple sponge pump while you're at it. Pretty easy to DIY and the benefits are numerous. I believe there are actually solar air pumps out there too, so you won't have to run electricity.
Last piece of advice I have is to make sure you've got equipment to monitor the chemistry of your pond. That way if anything happens(like an unexpected algae bloom or die-off), you have a way to figure out why it happened and how to fix it. (Also, don't do test strips, do chemicals, they're way more accurate and last much longer.)
Best of luck with your fishy endeavors! I hope everything's going well out there for y'all. I'm excited to see what happens next week!
Best wishes from somewhere in Missouri.

My biggest concern is that those fish really seemed to be unhealthy. That could be due to (A) too long in the cooler and they ran out of oxygen, or (B) they come from unhappy stock tanks. If it is (A) then they were stressed by the journey, and those that live through the ordeal will be fine. If it is (B) then you may have introduced parasites and problems to the pond that will not be so easy to eliminate. Judging by the vigor and health of the crustacean, I'd think it was probably (A). Fun-fact, you could also put feeder goldfish in the pond. Those are carp also, and my experience with feeder goldfish is that they grow FAST, and their colors are AMAZING after only a week or two in a pond. Just a thought. But you might try some Carp. Might even try to buy a few dozen very small Koi

If I may you have algae not moss in the water. This is caused by high organics and nutrients. Water plants should help absorb the nutrients. Fish release ammonia and they add to the nutrients of the pond. Also adding fish to the water buckets without any plants means that you get bad water quality for the livestock.

I'd like to second the "don't touch the fish" here. Even assuming that those fish were relatively healthy at the fishery, transporting them added a huge amount of stress. Sudden changes in water parameters can also stress their systems. They really need that slime coat protection during stressful times, and any handling rubs it away, not to mention the foreign skin oils that are being transferred onto their bodies. The grass carp might be hardier than the minnows/feeder fish thanks to size, but I wouldn't be terribly surprised if you lost a few in the first couple of days. As it is, every minnow you put in with the Mandarin ducks appeared either dead or dying. Contrary to what you might have been told, fish can feel pain and distress just as acutely as other vertabrates, and scientists have recently discovered that many species are remarkablely intelligent. Koi, for an example of commonly-kept fish, have been reported to act in ways that suggest different personalities, and can be hand-tamed. Be kind and as gentle as possible with your finned friends.

The small bait fish don't need a river, they'll be just fine with a pond to reproduce as long as they have plenty of plant cover and shelter to lay eggs. They will eat a lot of the small algae and plant debris that enters the pond if kept at a high enough population. Also depends on how many of them survive the transportation, predation, and availability of food. Crawfish also help eat algae.
The carp are probably unable to breed anyways since many sold in the US now are bred to be sterile...which is an incredibly good thing since those fish are awfully destructive when they get loose.

Here in Australia carp are seen as real pests. Yes they might eat some greenery but they like stirring up muddy bottoms and out competing native fish. And while this has somewhat been said... you didn't seem have really any regard for the lives of the feeder fish, eg letting them sit without water. You need to include a bubbler for some oxygen, and even if the pond temps were similar, significant chemical differences can still exist even in the same body of water, let alone ones at a significant distance. Going from a low oxygen environment to fairly high can also send them into shock. You obviously have no idea how many fish survived, but you'd be lucky to get half I think. Less fish, more oxygen, proper introduction slowly adding new water.

Carp here in Chicagoland can be very very difficult to get rid of and they do the same thing your carp do. They kill off the good fish. Tbh most of the feeders were in shock and most had to of died on the ride and from just sitting in a cooler with little water and fish sitting on top of each other. I mean yea I get it they are feeder fish but in the end they are still fish so providing the cooler with aeration and maybe an extra cooler so the fish arent literally in each others face would've been good and looked better for the video. I mean I love this family they are great but if they dont really care about the fish like they do the other animals then at least release them and all that off camera so we dont see tons of belly up and dead fish just slowly floating out into a new body of water that probably put most of the lively ones into shock since there was no acclimation and yea the temp could be somewhat similar but even just 2 degrees off can be harmful but not my pond not my fish so can really say to much just pretty hard to watch a video that is all inspiring and happy then see just tons of dead fish and the release of the feeders was just depressing lol.

The ducks didn't eat the dead ones, huh? My brother and I were given the job once or twice a week to siene for minnows for my Dad to fish with. My Kindle is telling me siene in not a word!! Dang I must be old!! The siene was a twenty foot, tightly knit net fixed between two five foot long wood poles. We would hold the siene so the pole was just touching bottom, stretching it out between us, and start to pull towards shore keeping the pole upright and the net net tight. A lot harder than it sounds! But you had to keep the pressure up or the little things would escape! As you approached shore you had to scoop in tandem, lay it on shore and grab em to put in Dad's bait bucket. There were a variety the minnows, some more prized than others. But boy, watching you today brought this back to me clear as day! Thank you! ☺

Beautiful pond and family brother, you look relatively young it's good that you have the little ones involved with being self sufficient and the things you are teaching them will be instilled into their minds for the rest of their lives, my father was a farmer and he worked on peoples farms but I did as well and the memories and life lessons were and still are the best things that happened to me

Carp are a nuisance here in Florida, and they certainly don’t have any issues reproducing in lakes! Those are probably a different species though

Zakary McLeod - Diploid Grass Carp, from everything I've read, they are unable to reproduce in a pond

I really enjoy your videos, but I have to say that releasing those carp into your pond is a recipe for disaster. Grass carp are a species of Asian carp and are notoriously invasive, they completely destroy ecosystems and wipe out native species of fish. Obviously that doesn’t matter in your personal pond, but all it takes is some flooding and even a few carp getting into major waterways would cause a disaster. Just something to think about.

Amber WildCraft No you clearly don’t understand anything about it. Go read about the threat that Asian carp pose to North American ecosystems. There’s a reason the Canadian and US government spend millions of dollars annually trying to prevent the spread of this invasive species, it’s not new or hard to find information.

The mandarins might struggle to get into nest box’s. It would be worth adding a ramp to each nest box to make it easier for them to get into. Good luck 👍🏼
