As a Gaelic football coach this is fascinating. Different shape ball but there’s stuff that could crossover in kicking patterns. In Gaelic for the majority of players taking set shots will kick facing at an almost right angle to goals and “hook kick” across the body. However some of the more accurate players are starting to use something akin to your first kick above now, the slight arc in run up and kicking straight through the ball. David Clifford is one of our game’s best forwards and he does this. Look him up.
Nice tips thanks! I've never understood why players at AFL level feel the need to take 20 steps for a set shot 10 / 20 / 30 even 40 meters straight out in front of goal when they could literally stand still and kick it or at most 1-3 steps

Hey mate, First of love the vids. Just got a question regarding kicking in wet conditions. I typically like to palm the ball when guiding it down and if the ball is wet i struggle to grip it. Is it a bad habit for me to be palming the ball in general or should i switch up my technique in the wet? Cheers!
I'm a pretty good kick but every time there's 2 posts on either end of where I'm kicking I just screw it up I hope this can help but are there any other tips for my problem I just think I should get bad habits out of the way early.
Get on the centre square line. Put your kicking leg on the line, Make contact on the line, and follow through so your foot lands on the line. If the ball is dropped straight then your kick should go straight.
I’m really proud of myself for basically teaching myself to kick a footy. I’m 14 and I’m able to kick 40m out with a slight struggle and though my accuracy is already pretty good, I wanted to learn more and this was great, thanks so much for making this video!

Ideally, your grip wouldn’t need to change just because it’s wet
I'm a pretty good kick but every time there's 2 posts on either end of where I'm kicking I just screw it up I hope this can help but are there any other tips for my problem I just think I should get bad habits out of the way early.
thanks this really helped my kid
Glad to hear! Have you got my AFL kicking guide as well?
i have a lot of trouble getting the distance because my kicks go very high would i need to get my head over the ball more?
Yeah maybe. Hard to say without seeing your technique. You might just need to make contact lower to the ground and drive it out
Point your toes lower
This is so helpful
That's awesome! What part will help you the most?
Hey Josh, would it be good for a junior footballer to mimic an AFL players set shot routine or would it be better to develop their own routine?
Depends which player you wanna mimic?😅
@@thekickingconsultantwould Jeremy Cameron or Tom Hawkins be a good player to mimic
Hey, I was wondering, what do you think the maximum amount of steps would be, around 5-6 perhaps?
I've always said 3-5 is all you NEED, but if you a more comfortable with more then that's okay. Gotta do what feels best for you
how far should I be able to kick the ball at age 14?
This is just me but I can kick 40m with a slight struggle but I hear that’s pretty impressive for 14 so I’m not sure.
@@bl3z477 yea thats good , i can like 35 - 39 max
I want to know how to kick straighter

I've got to know, Josh, does licking your fingers help with your ball drop, is it a habit, superstition, or do you just love the taste of dirt?
😅 helps provide me a bit of grip, but I didn't realise how much I do it haha.
You're a top bloke
haha cheers lad
