    Very Nice! I did this to a 9 piece CB-700 kit back in the 1980s. It had silver plastic "paper" drum wrap, mahagony/luan outer veneer. I was only 17, and didn't really know what I was doing but they looked okay. Better than the silver paper... I am about to do it again on another beat up CB 22" bass drum I bought on ebay to make an e-bass drum for my DIY e kit I made from a 5 piece ludwig Jazz set with burgandy wood grain. I am going have to wrap the CB with a maple veneer, and if I can match the color and finish closely that will be a miracle.

      @@jameshicks7125 that’s super cool to hear, I bet it was better than the silver plastic “paper” lol. Wouldn’t mind seeing the diy e-kit your building, if you post it please tag me on it to check it out.
      Curious in the triggers you’ll be using and how your mounting them
      Thanks for the compliment and viewing my video.

    You're smarter than the average bear. The cymbal stands holding the shells is brilliant. Also never thought of using blue shop towels to apply stain. Great idea. I always have those around but go and buy rags to stain. 🤪

      I appreciate the awesome comment, I figured work with what you got especially since I was in an apartment at the time. Blue shop towels is all I had at the time and was happy to know it worked well.
      Would be my go to choice moving forward for the blue shop towels in anything lol

    Hello. Have the craters affected the sound in any way?

    • @DrewNationDrums
      @DrewNationDrums  3 роки тому +2

      It used to be affected, tone wasn’t being captured. After filling the craters as much as I could, I can honestly say the sound has improved a lot. Compared from what it was before

    Subscribed. I want to see how the entire kit looked after you did this! I am getting a Tama Stagestar on the cheap and want to make it look not so cheap and chatty. Definitely got some pointers from this. Dig that wipe on poly! And definitely going to use a heat gun to take the wrap off lol I learned that hard lesson years ago on my first rockstar kit!

      Dave VanDenHoek I really appreciate you subscribing to my channel so thank you very much. I will post up the final result of the drum kit for sure, working on the bass drum at the moment which is the toughest I have and soon you’ll see why lol. I’m glad to read that you picked up some pointers and the wipe on poly is an awesome product. Not having a heat gun took a toll on my bass drum lol. I would like to see the TAMA Stagestar you’ll be working on

      Beat Ur Drum most definitely! All is well now, even better now that I'm back behind a kit. I picked up a Yamaha DTXplorer for practice when I can't be loud. So it's all out from here. I get the Tama kit later on today. And thanks!

    Not bad, but my personal preference goes to wood dye over stain and shellac or lacquer over urethane. But your results are definitely good!

    • @DrewNationDrums
      @DrewNationDrums  4 роки тому

      Thank you, the video does not give it any justice to be honest. I do also want to dab into the lacquer and oils for the wood, I want to try different results. Only reason why I went with this route was because my drum kit was in bad shape and had to fill in loss of wood of over the years of neglect. Kit is 26 yes old lol

      @@robinhoodwasasocialist.1401 yes, it sure does. I had to mix the saw dust from the drum it self to keep the same wood shavings and mixed it with glue to fill in the spots with missing wood. Was able to capture the sound in full tone instead of it escaping from all sides lol

    Question for ya. Did you end up giving up on removing the air vents/badges? I know that Tama air vents are notoriously hard to remove. If you have had any success in removing them, I'd love to hear how it went. Great video, keep it up!

    • @DrewNationDrums
      @DrewNationDrums  4 роки тому +1

      Zach Harston great question and thank you for viewing this video... I didn’t give up on removing them I just didn’t try to do so. Reason was because I also heard they were hard to remove & were also hard to find, so I decided to just leave them on. I figured it would give it more of a vintage look.

    • @frankspikes7858
      @frankspikes7858 4 роки тому +1

      Removing badges suck!!! I've done it a few times. It's better just to tape over them. Then cut the excess tape from around the edges. If a drum has screw on grommets, then it shouldn't be an issue. I don't want to think about how many times I've marred up a drum shell trying to get the stupid badge off.
