  • The snow has finally melted and summer is almost here...or at least we thought. Our day trip into the nearby mountains leads us into impassable snowy trails, we decide to retreat and continue our excursion back down the valley to cook up homemade moose tacos riverside!

You have the best dogs, they don't run off, but got scared the pup was going to be swept off trail in that little waterfall. I love seeing you guys bake stuff on the fly like that, who says you need an oven, campfire works just fine on cast iron. Moose meat tacos with kefir cheese, with garden onion, and chive. With exception of the flour, its all local, and homemade. I appreciate seeing how you live off your land.

    Hi guys,
Helpful tip: try getting a used 22lb fluke style (Danforth) boat anchor. It works great as a deadman to pull you out in boggy terrain.
Gorgeous country! Wish I was there :)
Stay safe, be well and all the best from California 💛

I was thinking a spiral spike as used for larger tents, but I like a good Danforth too

@@imadep3966 Lol! Yeah, sailing is definitely a part of my life! Plus I worked for several years at a chandlery and had to educate, well, dang near everyone on the fine art of anchoring (it is amazing how few boaters know anything at all about anchoring). That boggy muck they were trying to winch out of is no worse than a typical sea bed and I have personally used an 11lb danforth to kedge my 6000lb sailboat out of a mud bank so I know just how tenaciously they hold in mud. I figure a 22lb danforth should allow them to fling that Polaris into the next county! :) An added bonus is that that style of anchor folds flat so it is super easy to carry and it is pretty cheap. I used to carry an 11lb one in my Land Cruiser... But I digress...
      All the best from California!

    Hey guys, great vids!
A suggestion for towing points in open terrain. Learned in fire rescue years ago. You will need to carry on board, 3 3/4 " steel concrete pins (rods), 36- 42" long , 5lb. Mallet.
Drive pins into ground on a 45 degree angle away from vehicle.
Stap in tandem and winch away. Works like a charm in most conditions. Could be a life saver out there. Safe travels, mike in naples fla.

Hey there. I am sure the life you have chosen is not always sucking oranges but the parts you show, looks so inviting. Both of you seem to eat well but you are both sprightly and move like athletes. What an excellent way to spend this time of your lives. Success is inevitable. You don’t have to worry about the mess that the rest of the world is in right now. Even if there was not you tube, I am certain that you guys would make it in some other fashion. If your intension is to short term lease your 2nd property (holiday or experience let), I would gladly book a week or 2.

what a lovely and so cute beginning for the video, hens and chicks, cudly cudly and nice!!! And the road did not look too nice!!! Reminded me of the time we used to live down south of Venezuela 20 years ago. We had to take a road to go to town every two weeks or so. In normal weather when the road was "ok", it would take us around 6 hours. But in rainy season, we had to go prepared for a up to 20 hour trip. There were deep ravines, rocks bigger than any car, fallen "bridges" made with creativity and no security whatsoever by the indians that live in the Gran Sabana... but it was the only way, unless you could pay a plane or a helicopter fare, and we could not, so... the dirt road it was. Your road looked way better, but scary none the less. Loved this video, a real adventure!!!.

Putting the Polaris through her paces really shows how much work the suspension does on that vehicle. Incredible. Just before it lost traction I was thinking what a monster that thing is, and how appropriate for the Alaskan terrain (especially during the Spring). Even so, the vehicle performed admirably. A length of rebar and a 2-3lb sledge would be a welcome addition on those muddier outings to the highlands for a guaranteed attachment point for the winch... Loved the video 👍

Your Vlog on pickled eggs showed up on my utube feed and I was interested so I watched.....What I did'nt expect was a awesome young couple who are living a beautiful life semi off the grid in The Last Frontier.....I spent a year with the Air Force stationed at Clear Air Base, AK back in the early 90's. I had just went through some military trauma overseas and was so excited to be shipped out to Alaska. Unfortunately my symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress really kicked in during the winter months and I did'nt have a chance to get the full year in. I did manage to get alot of hunting and fishing in before I left though. You guys are bringing back so many treasured and stored memories for me!! I'm 53 yrs old now. If you only know how you have helped me with your videos!! I currently live retired in the Philippines so I know how adventurous life can be....But I no longer have that Alaskan stamina like you two powerful people do! I never say never! And with Gods Grace he might send me back for a vacation one day....I just cannot manage the bitter cold anymore otherwise I would try again and live exactly like you are. Does each person still receive a thousand dollars per year being a resident?? Back then it was given to each resident from the pipeline profits. I was so disappointed in the combat fishing also like you guys experienced. I thought I would be one with nature and it was way to crowded for my enjoyment. My buddy would go back there when the salmon season ended and retrieve almost a thousand dollars in lost tackle!! So many memories are coming back and I just wanted to say thanks and keep them videos coming!! Tim

I saw neat trick that I'm going to keep in the back of my mine (hopefully). A guy was stuck in ditch on a flat plain. He dug a narrow trench perpendicular to his vehicle and put his high rise jeep jack in the trench and his tow rope around the jack. Dug a shallow trench towards his vehicle for the rope to lay low in and winched himself out. Very cleaver I thought.
