  • Staying cool while working in hot weather is vitally important to staying healthy. Working in hot weather is going to be hard to avoid during summer months but there are a few things you can do to help prepare your body for the heat. Here I discuss many strategies I take while work in the Florida heat while also sharing some of the tips I've learned from my father who worked as a firefighter.

    Don't just drink water. You have to have a balance of electrolytes; salt, potassium and magnesium. Just drinking water can throw off your electrolyte balance and make you feel just as run down as not drinking enough water. Also, a good electrolyte drink is thirst quenching and you will not feel the need to drink as much.

      Don't fall for sugar drinks marketed as sports drink.
      Also keep in mind our ancestors (and wild animals) didnt/don't take supplements. Then again most people don't eat naturally.. so depends on the person

      Eat fruit, and snack on salty almonds or peanuts. Avoid unnecessary carbs and go for protein and healthy fats. Get jnto the habit of taking a cooler with you and keep big ice packs to pack up cut fruit of frozen grapes etc...
      Hope that helps.
      Oh, and taking hot showers cools you down because your body will evaporate the water on your skin and cool you down much faster than if you showered with cool water. Eat spicy foods as well to raise your body temp and you'll feel better.

    I did a couple deployments to Kuwait. Heat index can push upwards of 140 degrees. Cooldown all you want, you’re still sweating after your shower, lol.

    I have a Mission cool wrap that I've had for a couple years now. Cool thing about them is not only can you put it around your neck. You can use it as a dust mask, head wrap, bandana and my favorite...the ninja. Weeds can never see a lawn ninja coming.

      Not so sure. I work beverage delivery and had a few days where I felt my hydration plummet and swallowing the good ice from QT and standing in the cooler kind of taking my time to stock helped save me.

    I work out everyday in the heat. It sucks, but the longer you do it, the more tricks you find to survive it. Electrolytes, for me, are a little confusing. Gatorade is what most think of. But the sugar in it makes it counterproductive. Anybody know any good sources of electrolytes without all that soda lever of sugar?

    • @rebeccamuniz9535
      @rebeccamuniz9535 2 роки тому

      A good source or electrolytes without any suger is snake diet packets

    • @gregalvarez7289
      @gregalvarez7289 2 роки тому

      Liquid IV packets

    • @digitalmediaproductions7976
      @digitalmediaproductions7976 2 роки тому

      Gatorade makes zero sugar added drinks, or other similar brand electrolyte drinks that contain coconut water without the added sugar as well.

    • @rudesword2852

      The generic pedialyte packets in the baby area of your grocery store are a cheap and easy substitute. Or hit up the Hispanic grocery store or Walmart and get the suero electrolyte bottles, some ice trays, and freeze the suero as ice cubes so it lasts longer. They're cheaper than pedialyte.

      Sombrero is a must have. People would laugh and smirk when I wore one but ill be damned if they didn't get heat stroke while I was cool in the shade.

      When your shower water temperature is cooler than your room temperature you're gonna come out sweating. If you take a shower hotter than your room temperature you're going to come out so called feeling a little bit cooler. have throw your clothes on and get the hell out of Dodge & run to the AC gods😮😘

    If I drink warm water, I will throw up. I have to drink cold water in order to NOT get sick.
    Former welder here.: think leather head to toe. ... this is weird advice, guaranteed to make me sick. Maybe I'm an anomaly, but everything this guy said to do will guarantee i get sick. Is he somewhere up north or something?
    I will use a cold wet bandana or rag on my neck. That's about the only good advice here...
