- Staying cool while working in hot weather is vitally important to staying healthy. Working in hot weather is going to be hard to avoid during summer months but there are a few things you can do to help prepare your body for the heat. Here I discuss many strategies I take while work in the Florida heat while also sharing some of the tips I've learned from my father who worked as a firefighter.

Don't just drink water. You have to have a balance of electrolytes; salt, potassium and magnesium. Just drinking water can throw off your electrolyte balance and make you feel just as run down as not drinking enough water. Also, a good electrolyte drink is thirst quenching and you will not feel the need to drink as much.
Don't fall for sugar drinks marketed as sports drink.
Also keep in mind our ancestors (and wild animals) didnt/don't take supplements. Then again most people don't eat naturally.. so depends on the person
Eat fruit, and snack on salty almonds or peanuts. Avoid unnecessary carbs and go for protein and healthy fats. Get jnto the habit of taking a cooler with you and keep big ice packs to pack up cut fruit of frozen grapes etc...
Hope that helps.
Oh, and taking hot showers cools you down because your body will evaporate the water on your skin and cool you down much faster than if you showered with cool water. Eat spicy foods as well to raise your body temp and you'll feel better.
I did a couple deployments to Kuwait. Heat index can push upwards of 140 degrees. Cooldown all you want, you’re still sweating after your shower, lol.
thank God for swamp coolers
Take a cold shower
How did you manage to combat the heat? Just suffer and get through it?
We are trimming some trees, thank you very much. I enjoyed this video and it helped! Thanks.
Cool tips! Thanks for sharing!
Sweet video! Verrrrryyy important!
Im a tree climber in south fl. The heat is just as dangerous as the job it self i my self neglected hydration a couple yrs ago over worked my self in mid summer end of the day started throwing up as soon as i hit the a\c on the drive home long story short my kidneys failed. 21 bags of fluids. And 3 days in the hospital. My kidneys came back luckly i now make sure i pre hydrate every night and pace my self through the whole day and hydrate properly.great info in this video
Allyn - what kind of neck buffs do you use? I see them on your videos all the time, but I haven’t seen a video where you talk about those a bit more. thanks!
Thank you brother
LOL i work in a factory, perhaps you should teach them the same thing? lol
I work in a sugar factory most machines are running over 120 degrees and the hose water is around the same to melt the sugar spilled on the ground
I have a Mission cool wrap that I've had for a couple years now. Cool thing about them is not only can you put it around your neck. You can use it as a dust mask, head wrap, bandana and my favorite...the ninja. Weeds can never see a lawn ninja coming.
Thanks knowledge is good will safe you life
Thank you I do dog walking in California and I always wet my t shirt between every visit because I can’t stand the heat! Drinking garage temp as we speak lol
so what happens if you are in dry heat some of these tips are useful too right for the dry heat weather.
Garage water in California is equivalent to a hot cup of tea.
I drink room temperature water I tried to pound the hot garage water and it burnt my throat😢😮🤣
I work landscaping here in st Pete Florida. Just found your channel.
Great info. Thank you. I see construction sites littered with 40 oz oz beer cans. I'm like how do these men survive triple digit Temps drinking alcohol??
They drink a lot of water but they drink the beer for all the aches and pains
bro I’m in cali and it’s 114 and i gotta work outside
it can get to 118f were I work
It shocks your internals.
“Oh shit it’s cold water must be cold out there. Time to make yourself hot.
Thermal shock is true, you want water at room temp if you're working in tempetures over 100°
Not so sure. I work beverage delivery and had a few days where I felt my hydration plummet and swallowing the good ice from QT and standing in the cooler kind of taking my time to stock helped save me.
I don't have that problem drinking ice water...
I work out everyday in the heat. It sucks, but the longer you do it, the more tricks you find to survive it. Electrolytes, for me, are a little confusing. Gatorade is what most think of. But the sugar in it makes it counterproductive. Anybody know any good sources of electrolytes without all that soda lever of sugar?
A good source or electrolytes without any suger is snake diet packets
Liquid IV packets
Gatorade makes zero sugar added drinks, or other similar brand electrolyte drinks that contain coconut water without the added sugar as well.
The generic pedialyte packets in the baby area of your grocery store are a cheap and easy substitute. Or hit up the Hispanic grocery store or Walmart and get the suero electrolyte bottles, some ice trays, and freeze the suero as ice cubes so it lasts longer. They're cheaper than pedialyte.
Funny stuff 🏀🎾⚾
Wear a sombrero, decently loose long sleeve with a canteen that keeps your water 'cold
Sombrero is a must have. People would laugh and smirk when I wore one but ill be damned if they didn't get heat stroke while I was cool in the shade.
I learn through trial and error take a hot shower on a hot day and you won't be sweating. At least right away
Omg your dumb lol
Yeah dumb enough to try it and it worked.
When your shower water temperature is cooler than your room temperature you're gonna come out sweating. If you take a shower hotter than your room temperature you're going to come out so called feeling a little bit cooler. have throw your clothes on and get the hell out of Dodge & run to the AC gods😮😘

If I drink warm water, I will throw up. I have to drink cold water in order to NOT get sick.
Former welder here.: think leather head to toe. ... this is weird advice, guaranteed to make me sick. Maybe I'm an anomaly, but everything this guy said to do will guarantee i get sick. Is he somewhere up north or something?
I will use a cold wet bandana or rag on my neck. That's about the only good advice here...
Think he's from Florida.
You really don't know much at all.
