I don`t think I fit into any of these categories. I just do not feel like doing anything and yet I want to do something so bad because I`m so bored. I could go and play some videos games but something about the boredom makes me actively repulsive towards the idea, even though I find it fun normally. This kind of boredom seems to happen randomly and In spikes lasting from a couple of hours to a whole day. I often lose my appetite and I try to sleep (I don`t know why I just do).
Watching you tube videos is doing something with your life. Even lying on the couch doing nothing but relaxing is doing something with your life. It comes down to doing what you enjoy doing.
I don't get bored easily, unless if I'm isolated for more than an hour and away from the internet ... there's so much content on the internet, I could spend a lifetime reading and watching and commenting and never catch up; plus my video game library still has a few dozen games I bought cuz of impulse shopping that I figured I'd play later and need to get to ... we live in a technological golden age, that anyone can feel bored despite this means they're not exploring their natural curiosity as much as they should ... also, I have friends, family and meetup groups to keep me company for those times when internet and gaming just aren't enough ... so much to do, not enough free time hours in the day to get it all done ...
KoalaCyborg5000 Working too hard? If possible, sort things out by priorities, then whatever is at or near the bottom of your list of things that need doing, see which tasks are nonessential and cut them, otherwise if possible see about relegating that task to someone else ...
I get bored when I try to sleep...insomnia ftw... Sit for hours on end literally trying to do nothing...most frustrating experience of all my life...and I have to deal with it EVERY day.
SangoProductions21 Insomnia is a real pain to deal with, I have it too. Can get so engrossed in whatever I'm doing online that the hours just blend away, can often stay awake for two days straight doing that, then crash for 12+ hour sleep ... pretty sure its not healthy, but doesn't happen every day for me ...
Well, may as well try it. Kinda already tell everything to shut up continuously (especially on days when I just finished making an AMV, because then it plays the music in the AMV over and over), and try loosening the muscles. But, I haven't thought of tensing them up then relaxing them. Thanks...I hope it helps too.
When I'm bored, I either have to find something to do or I fall asleep, or I do repetitive and pointless shit over and over, like watching UA-cam or going on Tumblr...
5th kind over here. If my morning doesn't start with having things to do, I'll be bored the rest of the day and not feel like breaking out of it, usually clinging to sleep. And then when I wake up, there better be things to do or else the cycle starts again.
Somewhere between searching and apathetic boredom; I'll search for stuff but I just won't find any interest in it for example I'll watch the first few minuets of a video to go "nope not interested" and repeat or the first few paragraphs of a book.
I've always got bored easily (the searching kind mostly), so I always took a book and often my Gameboy everywhere I went as a kid. If the batteries died, I still had a book to read. Now, I have a 45 min commute so I go to the library and get books on tape. For the rest of the time, I have an RSS app on the phone. And I still have printed books. And if I'm restless, I use the energy to get chores, figuring if I'm going to be grumpy and restless, I might as well do something productive too.
make a 21 day calendar and decide to read/hang out/do everything unusual for 2 hours or just one and scratch each day you've done something new. when you complete the 21 days you will find yourself absolutely different it's scientifically proven just try it you'll be OK, stop smoking the weed in this period of time and the addictive behavior will disappear also. hope you'll be alright.
I've been trying to explain the "New" type of boredom to people for years. Glad there is some kind of scientific evidence to back up what I've been feeling for most of my life.
Sergio Ocampo Making time for distractions doesn't imply boredom, it could be the necessity for the brain to take a rest from work, and think about something else. I hope you don't watch DNews out of boredom.
Maybe my teachers should finally understand that after 7 hours at school with hardly any breaks, there is absolutely no chance for me to remember anything 5 mins after I leave school. If they do understand that, maybe students wont be as bored.
I'm rarely bored. I am disabled and live in Chronic pain so you'd think i'd be bored home all the time but I have internet, how can anyone be bored with the endless amounts of things to do on the internet (assuming they have the 'net I mean)? I can watch youtube videos all day and not ever catch up! I also play Sims. If i'm bored, which may be rare but happens to everyone sometime, I go to netflix.
i have Internet and im still often bored like seriously i sit infront of the screen like i should have millions of things to do/ see but then i have nothing idk what to search or see, and going into google and typing 'google i'm bored entertain me' doesnt throw out much. so i sit there bored staring at a blank screen till i think of something to search or just give up and go bother my sister
I guess I have the more Apathetic boredom. I get bored and I just loose all of my energy and just sit there. Probably because my mind is used to going all the time because I always try to learn new things and when I am bored I am doing just the opposite so I feel sad and unmotivated.
When I'm bored I end up researching history, learning about how things work including biology and everyday things like Airplanes and TVs. Or learn a language. I guess my boredom can become quite productive. Sadly i'm learning everything besides the thing I should actually be learning.
Why am I watching this video right now? Boredom. But honestly, science helps stimulate my brain because I find it interesting.. and there is an infinite amount of information to learn about. It only becomes boring when you struggle to understand it. Astronomy is my personal number 1 cure for boredom, anything astronomy related helps me tremendously. Mainly because it brings me back to the state of awareness of how small we are, how many years it took to evolve to where we are now and to contemplate our future.
I'm bored all the time even though I have lots of stuff to do. I have a pile of video games I haven't even touched, a pool table, books, movies, a large yard, but I feel like anything I could do wouldn't be good enough and I end up doing nothing.
that's exactly it. there's always stuff do just nothing you want to do. it seems like any choice you pick there could be something better to pick so you pick nothing i hate that
I'd say I'm the searching kind of boredom. I'm constantly seeking new information to absorb, new story lines to digest, new puzzles to solve. I like learning, I could almost say I'm dependent on it for the sake of my own sanity.
I'm realizing that I rarely ever feel genuinely bored. Whenever it gets to that stage, and it's quiet enough, I end up just being inside of my own head. I can just start thinking about... anything, really, and literally hours can pass me by.
Boredom inspires you to do cool stuff in a way. When I'm bored, it's like I feel like I could do something better than what's going on, be it schoolwork, homework, workwork, or just lazying about. If you have energy you can do stuff.
I'm not exactly sure what this says about me, but It's really hard for me to be bored. I'm easily amused and can always find something to do, (I'm big on DIY and crafts as well.) and on the rare instance there is truly absolutely nothing to do, I can zone out and start making up stories in my head. I just need to make sure there is at least something to jot down what I come up with at least (It's how I've come up with a lot of my story ideas...being an aspiring screenwriter/filmmaker and all.) I actually need to zone out sometimes, it helps me relax/destress, kinda like taking a nap, but being fully awake. Although I guess I look sad or something when I do because people will come up to me and ask me if I'm feeling alright. haha!
I get really bored when I stay with friends who watch hours of reality T.V. - the kind of shows where they have to transport loads of goods on trucks or design clothes. After an hour of this, I want to scream but it goes on much longer. I feel the need to read something but it turns out that my host doesn't like that but I could just jump out of my skin.
I have apathetic boredom every day, (it usually leads me to find out alternate sources of stimuli after a gruelling while) and from personal experience, apathetic boredom is THE WORST form of boredom since it cam make you angry, frustrated, edgy, sad, powerless and more...
I find that I blame my boredom on my surroundings. If I don't recognize that this boredom is actually laziness on my part, that boredom turns to anxiety and anger or depression, especially when I'm at work. It wasn't my employer's fault that I felt these emotions at work, it was my own fault for failing to cultivate a good attitude and enthusiasm within myself.
I experience all 5 in different situations, but 5th is the most predominant. I've always known that prolonged boredom leads me to a depressive state. Really surprised that they discovered that one only now.
As a hyperactive little kid, I considered it an accomplishment when I "learned how to be bored," as I put it. It's interesting to think that I may have inadvertently made myself depressed that way, later in life.
I'm experiencing the 6th type of boredom; I'm at work and it's quiet. This is the best kind of boredom because it means that there aren't any crises that need to be dealt with.
What Kind of Bored Are You? The Boradem of not learning anything useful, like schools subject's you barely going to use in a Job. except Dnews which kickass or anything useful for a person specifically.
Weird and interesting study. I'm not totally sure what kind of boredom I experience. I think I've experienced 3-5 and probably 4 the most. 1 sounded like mediation to me. When my mind is blank it's relaxing.
I used to experience the kind of boredom where you actually really have to finish some homework but you just ignore that and go do nothing. And feel bored. Luckily i've grown out of that and now know how to get myself to work. I really love your sweater/shirt/thing btw!
I get this feeling that I'm not sure is boredom anymore, but always thought it was throughout my life, but it's a super restless feeling where it's like every single thing I could do would feel "boring", like I wouldn't be able to tolerate doing anything I can think of, and it's not in a way like it's not stimulating enough, it's just like I can't become non-restless enough to pay attention to anything or tolerate it. It's like if I actually tried to do something I'd get that feeling of needing of release, like to relieve this built up tension, like hit something, or shove stuff off a desk (like the need to kick your legs feels when you have restless leg syndrome). It may be having an over active brain as I am on the autism spectrum and there are theories about autism having to do with too much activity in the brain, so it's hard to tolerate being stimulated even more. It feels very similar to sensory overload (having to do with sensory processing disorder which is extremely common in those on the autism spectrum), which would make sense because I often experienced this same restless feeling after going somewhere where there was lots of noise, or I had to interact with a lot of people.
I'm totally the 'searching boredom' type, as well as being a dyed-in-the-wool thrill-seeker. I don't think I've ever experienced any of the other types of boredom.
I'm definitely a reactive boredom sorta person, I can never concentrate on my work and lectures in lesson so I always try and find something else to occupy myself with. Outside of lessons i'm never bored.
I experience boredom with my studies a lot. I'm in a comp class that requires us to do mind numbingly repetitive tasks before we even start a project. Like right now, I have the work sitting next to me, but I'm not doing it.
I'm actually the fifth type. I'd love to learn more about that study. It could probably help me a lot. I have depression and a lack of motivation. Im usually saying "im bored" but i really mean "im stuck".
To be honest, I feel great on a plane. There might not a lot of choice, but I'm free to pick and choose what I want. When I'm stuck doing school work or in class, I feel bored.
I have definately experienced at least three of these boredoms. Apathetic boredom is horrible! Its also called chronic boredom. Dubbed being 'bored to death'. And is linked to depression.
How can anyone get bored? There is always tons of shit to do all the time. I think boredom is a choice. I have books, comics, a camera, youtube, Adobe CS6, guitars, NERF guns, more books, more comics, XBOX, wii, a laser/flashlight, iPod, phone, paper, pens/pencils, paints, movies, music, and so much more.... You can't do everything at once. I feel bored at work sometimes and then I just watch some youtube or take a short walk around the building. It makes sense that being bored comes from either wanting too much control or wanting to be controlled.
I often get indifferent boredom but I also get the so bored that I can't be bothered doing anything boredom, where absolutely nothing appeals to me even it requires no input from me like watch tv or you tube. I think this is what teenagers get most often.
i understand with indifferent boredom, its kinda nice actually, because, at least for me it means that currently my life isnt too stressful or i dont have a lot of work to do
apathetic boredom... i've been having it for the past couple days... watching all these science videos... a lot of these videos have been scientifically pointing out how depressed I am apparently..
I've experienced all of these at least once. Maybe it happens in phases? Perhaps if we pay more attention to ourselves we might become aware of that fact (if it's true at all). I'm not sure what that would do for anyone, but I can't help but feel as if knowing might pay off in the long run.
Sometimes I get bored while I'm just sitting here on my computer. It makes no sense given the sheer volume of games I have on my computer. It drives me crazy.
I've experienced all five types of boredome before, but the one I experience the most by far (at least, these days) is indifferent boredom. Relaxing? ...Eh, I wouldn't go that far. It's true that it's a lot less frustraiting to deal with than the other forms of boredom, but boredom is still boredom. Genuine relaxation has positive effects that this form of boredom does not. ...I can't imagine people only experiencing one form of boredom through their lives, though. The kind of boredom I feel changes depending on my mindset/where I'm at in life. :v
i've been feeling very down lately im constantly bored and i have no motivation to change it im only 15 but im always tired and i don't ever like going out i find it pointless...i have no hobbies no friends (outside of school) and no real interests everyday is so repetitive i spent my time reading about random shit on the internet or watching tv shows on netflix it seems i'd rather immerse myself in someone else's life than my own
I rarely get bored. I would have to have a very long span of time with very little distractions to feel truly bored, and even then I think it's more the Indifferent boredom. I never really understood people's boredom in classes. But then I always loved school and paid attention. Traffic is frustrating but I wouldn't call it boring, but then I usually have an audio book. I plan ahead for plane trips and there are so many available distractions there and the environment is so uncomfortable that I don't think I could get truly bored. Maybe I'm just a weirdo.
I usually get searching boredom, but sometimes if I've been thinking about... a certain event that happened recently that I don't really want to talk about on the internet, I'll get apathetic boredom that can last for up to 20 minutes before I'll decide to get up and do something actually productive.
I generally experience types 3 and 4. I guess it's definitely true that I have anxiety issues but not depression, since type 5 seems completely ridiculous to me. I always want to do something about my boredom.
I think I'm a lil bit of "searching boredom" and "reactant boredom". I constant search for stuff to do online or in real life and it's usually because I have to do something and I want to get out of that situation! lol
I usually don't get bored, but the few times I do it is because I have too many options of things to do, so I get bored not knowing which activity to do. I think that is the searching boredom...
I hate searching boredom because I'm trying to fix the boredom but it doesn't seem to be working. I usually try and listen to like calm ocean sounds or something to get me out of my irritated and bored unable to focus state
The feeling of always something I feel i have to do leaves me feeling all types of boredom based on what else im thinking like how time passes or just how much un interest i have
Because well I can have a list of things I find fun infront of me like my favorite games, but i don't ever want to just play them because I always set mini goals to keep going which in turn made me lose interest to play
am i depressed now im bored but stand up and do someting about it? nah actualy im realy tired right now im at 29h without sleep right now so... good night
1. Indifferent Boredom, is probably the one I experience most xD 3. Searching Boredom is the feeling I have when in a room with literally nothing to do and it's in a surrounding I don't want to be in. 4.Reactive boredom....actually this one might be on a tie with indifferent boredom xD 5.Apathetic Boredom - This happen to me all the time when I was younger, but I haven't experienced that type since.. well school ended I suppose.
OMG same!!
Dude, you pretty much just summed up the last one. Apathetic boredom.
The kind of bored that watches youtube videos instead of doing something with his life.
Gaze73 yup do that alot
I have so much shit to do now I end up not doing anything at all.
Preach. UA-cam & Tumblr! Some of the best repetitive shit to do
Dimadome12 Cod also tried to be very repetitive but is also boring.
Now how can I fight boredom while staying productive?
Apathetic yup total lack of motivation to do anything
5th kind over here.
If my morning doesn't start with having things to do, I'll be bored the rest of the day and not feel like breaking out of it, usually clinging to sleep. And then when I wake up, there better be things to do or else the cycle starts again.
Somewhere between searching and apathetic boredom; I'll search for stuff but I just won't find any interest in it for example I'll watch the first few minuets of a video to go "nope not interested" and repeat or the first few paragraphs of a book.
I'm the same
I agree
XD I legitimately didn't even pay attention to this video. wow.
me too, we were probably bored :D
Hassan Selim How odd right? XD What kind of bored would that be classified as? Haha!
constantupgrader probably a new kind of boredom called "I've been watching too many UA-cam videos" or just "ZombieTubed" :D
Hassan Selim Haha! Nice XD
5th: "Too bored to actually do something, _fuck_." But. this is me everyday..
I've always got bored easily (the searching kind mostly), so I always took a book and often my Gameboy everywhere I went as a kid. If the batteries died, I still had a book to read. az mad Uh, I'm fine. And I don't smoke pot, but I did smoke cigarettes for over a year. I beat that habit by learning how to juggle.
Finally!! The fifth boredom is IT!! Finally, I can relate. It is definitely related to depression.
I'm so bored that I just watched 3 DNews videos
(and then I saw this one in the related videos so I clicked it)
I never get bored. There is plenty to do in life. I'm always busy.
My boredom changes all the time... It goes from too bored to watch UA-cam and stuff, to walking around my room, to staring off into space...
I've been trying to explain the "New" type of boredom to people for years. Glad there is some kind of scientific evidence to back up what I've been feeling for most of my life.
I would love to have enough time to get bored
You do if you are watching DNews
Sergio Ocampo Making time for distractions doesn't imply boredom, it could be the necessity for the brain to take a rest from work, and think about something else. I hope you don't watch DNews out of boredom.
I love this thread
I put time aside specifically to do nothing.

Boredom's an emotion, huh? Then why wasn't it included in the Inside Out movie?
I think it's one of Disgust's sub emotions.
Rey H
those emotions have different emotions
i think it has something to do with sadness and disgust
Boredom is a human urge to take action. Staying busy is advantageous as far as practicing skills and having novel experiences.

I like listening to her.

Man, I must be really bored to be watching a video about boredom...
Which kind?
Apathetic boredom is all I get, I know there's lots of things to do I just have no motivation to do so and everything is boring.
Hey how could anyone get bored watching Laci :-)
I knew it! When i was depressed i felt complete indifference and lack of interest to just about everything
Well, one thing is for sure. I never get bored of Laci :)
I'm not exactly sure what this says about me, but It's really hard for me to be bored.
When I'm stuck doing school work or in class, I feel bored.
i'll never be bored listening to you
I have definately experienced at least three of these boredoms. Apathetic boredom is horrible! Its also called chronic boredom. Dubbed being 'bored to death'. And is linked to depression.
I definitely have searching boredom, but not very often.
I'm reactive boredom. I'm always motivated to do anything what I really want to do.
I've experienced multiple of these boredom types, sometimes simultaneously. I'd be surprised if I'm rare or alone in that.
i've experienced all boredoms :L
How can anyone get bored? There is always tons of shit to do all the time. I think boredom is a choice. I have books, comics, a camera, youtube, Adobe CS6, guitars, NERF guns, more books, more comics, XBOX, wii, a laser/flashlight, iPod, phone, paper, pens/pencils, paints, movies, music, and so much more.... You can't do everything at once. I feel bored at work sometimes and then I just watch some youtube or take a short walk around the building. It makes sense that being bored comes from either wanting too much control or wanting to be controlled.
usually when im bored.. i dont even want to do anything, even gaming takes too much effort.. i dunno what it is, maybe just extreme lazyness?
I love how you mentioned a very specific version of Adobe Suite! LOL
BTW you forgot porn...
FreeFromWar I was trying to keep it a bit family friendly, but you destroyed that! Ha ha!
Aaron G. Randall hahaha too funny !
decibelchild Thanks! :D
Wow, so that's what it is! There, now when I get depressed I have an explanation for that weird, extreme boredom...
I often get indifferent boredom but I also get the so bored that I can't be bothered doing anything boredom, where absolutely nothing appeals to me even it requires no input from me like watch tv or you tube. I think this is what teenagers get most often.
Sometimes you just have one of those days where nothing interests you.
i understand with indifferent boredom, its kinda nice actually, because, at least for me it means that currently my life isnt too stressful or i dont have a lot of work to do
apathetic boredom... i've been having it for the past couple days... watching all these science videos... a lot of these videos have been scientifically pointing out how depressed I am apparently..
you know what i do when im bored. I watch this show
but you've watched all of this show, now what
I've experienced all of these at least once. Maybe it happens in phases? Perhaps if we pay more attention to ourselves we might become aware of that fact (if it's true at all). I'm not sure what that would do for anyone, but I can't help but feel as if knowing might pay off in the long run.
when you are not content with your life, you will become bored.
Sometimes I get bored while I'm just sitting here on my computer. It makes no sense given the sheer volume of games I have on my computer. It drives me crazy.
boredom forces us to step out side the box an try something new
I've experienced all five types of boredome before, but the one I experience the most by far (at least, these days) is indifferent boredom. Relaxing? ...Eh, I wouldn't go that far.
I've been feeling apathetic boredom a LOT lately, and it sucks a lot.
since I got to college, today is actually the first time I have felt truly bored and now I sort of wish I had more work to do....
I think I'm a lil bit of "searching boredom" and "reactant boredom". I constant search for stuff to do online or in real life and it's usually because I have to do something and I want to get out of that situation! lol
I think only boring people get bored. I never get bored ever! But i do find being around people who are bored boring!
I experience the 3rd one, not very often, but I do. I will ditch ANYTHING that I am oing!
CHARLIE ANN Oing, oing! :D
Public school supplied me with a decade of near constant indifferent boredom.
gantmj : that's what they do
One of the signs that I have a boredom coming from within is when I play less video games. That really tells me something is wrong.
I'm most likely a mix of 1 and 5, i'm bored but in a relaxing way and don't have any motivation to want to change my boredom.
I usually don't get bored, but the few times I do it is because I have too many options of things to do, so I get bored not knowing which activity to do.
I think that is the searching boredom...
I hate searching boredom because I'm trying to fix the boredom but it doesn't seem to be working. I usually try and listen to like calm ocean sounds or something to get me out of my irritated and bored unable to focus state
The feeling of always something I feel i have to do leaves me feeling all types of boredom based on what else im thinking like how time passes or just how much un interest i have
Because well I can have a list of things I find fun infront of me like my favorite games, but i don't ever want to just play them because I always set mini goals to keep going which in turn made me lose interest to play
am i depressed now
im bored
but stand up and do someting about it?
nah
actualy
im realy tired right now
im at 29h without sleep right now
so...
good night
i just come to see laci green because i miss her , she is so pretty!
The one where its relaxing. I mean if I'm bored I have no work to do (bc I can't be board while working) so I can just chill.
1. Indifferent Boredom, is probably the one I experience most xD
3. Searching Boredom is the feeling I have when in a room with literally nothing to do and it's in a surrounding I don't want to be in.
4.Reactive boredom....actually this one might be on a tie with indifferent boredom xD
5.Apathetic Boredom - This happen to me all the time when I was younger, but I haven't experienced that type since.. well school ended I suppose.
I experience the 5th one constantly and it's horrible
Elise Haltrich omg me to 😔, I always have this weird anxiety feeling in my stomach, it's heavy and I can feel it with every breth
