It's a Nimitz class carrier, the same size as the Nimitz. All the carriers (except for the Enterprise, JFK and Kitty Hawk) are Nimitz class and are the same size as each other.
I served aboard the Midway in the late 70's as a M.S. (Mess Specialist) there was no "solid waste disposal" on board. ALL food trash was thrown overboard @ the "sponson." You could see sharks & other denizens of the deep circling behind the ship for handouts.
I am currently serving aboard the Reagan and they have definatley become more "Eco-Friendly" With the trash. We now seperate everything and break it down. Its a bit of a pain to be honest.
Same on the USS America. Anything that was perishable or biodegradable went overboard. I used to enjoy throwing stuff overboard and watching it hit the water.
Was on the Midway 76-78 in 1st division.. Did mess cooking also. We never ate off of plates, the steel trays. Worked the scullery. Fun times! Was also on the Midway when we swapped with the Independence in 1991 in Hawaii.
I saw this programme a few years ago. I remember the captain was welcoming some new recruits and he said the Ronald Reagan had an extension to the flight deck added to the front of the carrier which made them largest in its class.
That food looks really good. Rumor has it that the U.S Coast Guard eats pretty well at sea too especially the icebreakers assigned to the real pain in the ass places.

Whenever I watch documentaries about the USAs armed forces and read the comments of veterans it always strikes me that a lot of Navy personnel seem to have served for 4 years, is this because of the pressure of life at sea?, the length of service allowed for at sea sailors? Or just coincidental? I served for 24years in the RAF and whilst I can’t say that I enjoyed every minute, far from it in fact, but the good times outweighed the bad considerably, and I wouldn’t change it for a minute, so when I see so many 4 year veterans I have to wonder why. Don’t think I am being derogatory towards the United States Navy, or any USA military, I am genuinely interested. When I joined up in 1979 the minimum term you could serve was 3 years, not even long enough to be trained and settle into military life in my opinion, and I believe that term has since been removed and longer terms are the norm with a long reserve service as well. As I did 22years reckon-able service and 2 years for Queen and country (I joined up just after my 16th birthday so they got the first two years FOC, Free Off Charge) I didn’t have a reserve service commitment and got my pension straight away, I know the system has changed but wondered how the USA military terms of service worked. Thanks for an excellent and informative film, wish it had been a little longer but still entertaining. 👍

Well, "a" (as in one) gym isn't right. There are six or seven...depending on what you count as a gym, I guess. Let's say seven places to work out with multiple exercise equipment, weights and so forth.
Yeah ok, good is definitely a necessity I get it. But take away internet, email and phones. Cut outside communication for any amount of time and pull what's more important.
food looks good in the army early 80s breakfast was good we had a choice i got a 3egg ham&cheese omelet & hash browns made to order dinner had a grill line dbl cheeseburger &fries we burned off calories at 0530 PT monkey drills followed by a 6 mi run every day at ft hood 1980 G-btry 333 ADA 2nd AD

In a war game pitting one US Fast Attack Sub (280 feet long, 4000 tons) against a US 1100 foot long, 97,000 ton carrier, all the sub has to do is use Passive Sonar and a Ahead Slow makes a super quiet attack approach and one torpedo to the engine room, sea water in the nuke and Ka-BOOM!!! The carrier don't know what hit it!!! I think the submarine will win every time.
Weakness is a temptation that tempts the pugnacious to assert themselves. Strength however is a declaration that cannot be misunderstood. You build a military to prepare for war but preserve the peace. When a Navy aircraft carrier is floating around and "do nothing" but "wasting money" they are doing their job. I ported in Brisbane during Australian Day 2006. You guys are the friendliest. Sydney and Perth by far the best ports for Yanks in the Pacific.

my uncle Vic was on USS Enterprise during world war 2.
In those days, it was a lot tougher.
The ships are so large and so easy to get lost. I was on the Enterprise 2 different times.

1.50 very small and cramped living quarters. But does anyone knows if the pilots and officers have bigger rooms/living quarters?
I believe they do, they're generally kept up higher, pilots usually up near the deck and hangar of course. Providing they still follow that basis.

A lot of U.S. Military (all branches) personnel serve 4 years to get college money, then get out. Many of them never plan on serving any longer.
