Now it's called a magnetic field. Older days they called it witchcraft then would throw you into a river to drown.

It's absolutely not the magnet that keep the nuts balanced

What is keeping the nuts balanced is the magnetic force in the nuts, when Steve connected the nuts to the magnets, the magnetic force in the magnets was put in the nuts. When he de-attached the nutes from the magnets, there was a slight magnetic force in the nuts which was holding the nuts together in the tower. He balances them on the glass, the force from the magnets was strong enough to bond with the force in the nuts, allowing them to stay together

Magnetism pass through the wooden ruler as it is non-magnetic.The magnets attracted the hex nuts as it is magnetic in order to keep it balance but it need a supporter to support it.

The magnet turns the nuts to an temporary magnet so the nuts attracts to each other and the magnet does a little part to keep it balanced

The opposing force of gravity is not pushing enough in any direction when you think of its vector components, thus the glass is making it stay upright because the magnetic pull is slightly weaker than the gravity force, makin the z-component weak enough for the opposing force of gravity to turn almost to zero, making all the components of it also very close to zero..
Sry for bad english, but the best explanation i could make up, considering i have 3rd grade high school physics..

i think first he magnetised the Hex nuts and then slowly pulled out from the magnet but the magnetic field is still around the magnets and the gravity is pulling the nuts from the other side. hence the force is balanced causing the nuts to float. I don't know the actual science its just a Guess.
